well I was wondering if HL2 could produce a similar effect to what farcry does in which if a bloodied body falls into water a bloody type shader particle thing fills the space around it.. making the water murky with blood.. dont know how this is done and I was wondering if source could produce it.. its little things like these that really impress me with a game visually and would at least like to hear that this could be done via a mod. Anyone know?

Sure you can do it on Source. You could probably do it on HL1.

I've never heard of it being able to do this. Would be nice.

it's a shader isn't it? if so then Source could do it easily

i remember someone asking this earlier, try searching it

I think it would be easy.

When you look at something like day of defeat, and how far they have pushed the engine, source is going to be crazy in 3 years time.

It could be done with a shader, but if you want to follow Far Cry's example, just do this:

If a body is dead and it's under water, create a particle emitter with the blood texture.

Boom, done. Not a complex effect, but it's a nice thought and detail to put in.

See, that's the kind of simple, straight-to-the-point solution that separates the prolific programmers from the not-so-prolific programmers.

I doubt it's in. So far I have yet to see a puddle of blood around a dead combine, let alone blood in the water. It seems to me they have like no gore in the game :(

we dont know if combine have the same type of bleeding as regular people though..

I think they have already implemented this:

Watch the water in th cs:source vid, as the t's start getting shot, the water flys up in the air, and some of it looks red. I don't know if thats blood or what. Looks like it though.

yup, you can see it in CS:S vid

seriously.. OMG i cant wait for CS:S ... that is SO badass.. man blood effecting sh1t like that.. you couldent do shaders and particles like that in HL1 from what I recall.. man (HYPE O METER RISING) please somebody get me a cryo freeze chamber OMG I CAN FEEL HL2 IN MY HANDS ): ITS THERE i

sorry for caps

yup, you can see it in CS:S vid
screenshot it?

all i can see that remotely looks like blood is when the grassy bit is shot and dirt flies up

I dono if my dell can handle the physics in CS:S.. ): my cpu takes hits in games like painkiller already D:

and gabes comp clearly takes a hit (Fps wise) when the barrels scatter..

Possible blood water particles here... (i have the gamespot video)

Maybe its particles of dirt from the ground mixing with the water? The river bed looks 'quite' red.

what version of the video do you have delta?
the new one as found here ;)

Anyway, the stuff that you see in the screenshots is definately blood, but none of it is in the water as described earlier in this topic :( (as far as I can see that is)

It's evident in the Cs:s video. In fact I'd be amazed if HL2 didn't have this as it's probably the game currently which uses the most shaders (I think 1600 or so). I could be wrong, if so, correct me. :)

The blood pops up before he even gets to the guy, guess the hitboxes are still broken :upstare:

i dunno if that bit is blood, i guess we'll have to do something stir crazy like wait for the release to find out.

Ooo. I could do that in Quake I.

this effect wont be in cs:s. look at the vid again! there will be blood effects like in the current cs->no blood runnig out of dead bodies..not even in water!

That didn't look to different to me than a regular puff of blood, but like the original question, it would add an extra effect to have the puff of blood, and blood in the water. But I've heard rumors of reduced gore on human characters. Not sure if it's true or not.

As bodies dissapear rapidly in CS, it wouldn't be logical to have blood pouring from them...

It looks like they stay on the map this time, by default at least. The first Terrorist that got shot certainly stayed on the ground for longer than the current CS default.

Default is 600 seconds in CS.
It's been a while since I played CS properly, so they dissapeared after a few seconds back then. Meh.

I want scarfact style, like when he falls into the pool at the end.

How about in the docks video? Doesn't he hit the zombie in the water?

i don't think that vid is recent enough to be able to tell though :( I hope they haven't toned it down as a game but i don't mind the lack of gibs or whatever. Anyways a game which includes people being chopped in two by a giant fan blade thing isn't going to be fussy about a bit of a blood effect in the water.
