Warning: If you do not want to know about the plot of Batman RIP, stop reading now.

Batman's alter ego Bruce Wayne has apparently been killed off in the latest issue of the superhero comic.

details:

The story - Batman RIP - sees Batman shot by villain Simon Hurt, who claims to be Wayne's father Dr Thomas Wayne.

Morrison told BBC News there would be "a lot more twists and turns to come" before the story was finally resolved

In the final scene, Hurt tries to escape in a helicopter after shooting Batman.

But the wounded superhero throws himself at the helicopter, causing it to crash. The comic story ends without a frame showing Wayne's body, however

Frontrunners to take over as Batman include Tim Drake, who has been Robin since 1991, and Dick Grayson - the original Boy Wonder - who now protects Gotham City as Nightwing

HOLY BATRAGEDY!!! BRUCE IS DEAD

opinions from the interwebs:

The whole R.I.P. story line has me pissed off beyond believe. If anything is going to make me quit main stream super hero comics. Check this shit out:

1. Alfred had an affair with Bruce's mother and is actually Bruce Wayne's real dad.
2. Thomas Wayne, who is alive by faking his death, hired Joe Cool to kill Bruce and his Mom but Joe Cool couldn't kill a kid.
3. Thomas Wayne has been the one sending villians out to destory Bruce and ultimately Gotham

*Yawn* He's not dead. Its an obvious plot twist, he'll just be gone for a while, then reappear and youll all be like 'zomg he's alive!'

well obviously he's not really dead, he's DC's most popular character, that's be like shooting themselves in the foot and then amputating it with a rusty butter knife

Bruce Wayne / Batman is Republican.

I will never accept this.

I knew Bruce was going to die since last year. I followed RIP, despite its shitty writing, ridiculous plot and Morrison's wankery. But now that it has happened, I reject it. This is no way for Batman to die.

I will never accept this.

He will probably reborn as a cyborg.

I hate the way this is being reported. I was reading the story in the Metro over someone's shoulder on the way into work this morning, saw the headline and thought WTF so had a look on Wikipedia... then thought WTF again, cos it doesn't even sound as if it's being implied that Wayne is dead.
Anyone familiar with comics knows that unless you actually see a hero die, see them buried... they're NOT dead. Even then it's a not a certainty. Wayne is not dead. If he is, they've presented it in what sounds like a completely underwhelming way.

I do quite like the back story revisions though... kinda cool way to shake the foundations.

What the **** is this "The Young and the Restless" in superhero comic book form?

Who is responsible for this? Is that even supposed to be cannon?

Neil Gaiman is writing the next two Batman issues. "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?"

Hence I'm rejoicing regardless.

Superman died at least a couple of times didn't he?
No biggie.

To me, the true ending for Batman is told in The Dark Knight Returns series. It was so well drawn and written that I just have to consider it cannon

Yes, absolutely. Can't see how that could be beaten, absolutely epic, with 'human' characters and set 'in the future', kind-of, so that it can continue to be the ultimate end to the Batman story for a long time.

God, that's a stupid 'twist' in the story. It's so not Batman.

This is a comic book death.

Hell Batman canon is selective per fan anyway, so this whole thing is wiped off the face of the earth.

Batman TAS was always better, anyway.

I.....really don't care :p

Thanks for letting us know, we were getting worried that you'd hurt yourself or something when you took so long to post!

WTF? I just decided to start getting into comics/graphic novels/whatever. I've bought Batman: Year One and Watchmen and was planning on getting The Man Who Laughs next. This is the kind of shit, along with ****ing multiple universes and crises and everyone dying and coming back to life and crossovers and all that ****ing rubbish convuluted continuity crap is why I never wanted to read them before. GET ****ING CONSISTENCY.

Why does anyone care? There's so many writers that someone will come out with a new series tomorrow with a completely different storyline.

Get into Sandman. Now. Do it.

Sandman is awesome and you should get into it.

Don't Wiki too hard. There's some end of series spoilers pretty plain for all to see on the Wikipedia pages.

You're lying! It's not possible! I know my family and friends; I remember names, faces, birthdays! I have memories! A past!
