Bush signs document effectively making Iraq a US colony.

Ah I see. In that case, I made a boo-boo.

On topic: He's not getting anywhere. Iraq has an impossible ability to become this "most favored nation" status. Isn't is kind of obvious that in order to become favorable you need to have something called favorable status with the people? I can't honestly see a democratic nation happily trading cheaply the nation that crushed them and essentially killed off a whole chunk of their population. Sure it's what happened to Japan and Germany, but Iraq has oil. They know their power.

1. Not all germany was for the Nazi cause (assuming this is what you are talking about). In addition, not all germany allied with the west after the war either.

2. Japan received a huge amount of investment post-war to rebuild the country and make it industrial, largely so they wouldn't turn communist. Would you turn down the entire rebuilding of a nation on principle?

That said, I don't expect Iraq to be sympathetic with the US at all. However it's not just a lack of power that makes you submissive.

More mutual defense pacts are pretty standard, not surprised, but this idiot will just cause us to leave there dramatically

I was actually saying how Germany re-united and happily went along as a new nation, and one of the most democratic and powerful nations on earth.

Japan is the same, though they have no military except for a few guys.
