Juno beach also encountered very small resistance. Not to demean Canadian involvement war in WW2 but you guys had it pretty easy on Normandy compared to the US and England (especially the US with Normandy).

well according to this canada lost quite a few troops on d-day ..we've always been short changed when it comes to acknowledging our role

If anyone has the latest PCG U.S. they have read the COD II annoucement and seen the remarkable screenshots! Holy crap my hypometer when through the roof. There will be desert settings now and they simply look awesome. The net announcement should be here soon (if it hasen't arrived already)

note: and in there next issue "the scoop in the remarkable game in the works by the diablo studio" :smoking:

Why the **** make a thread, saying that a game looks ****ing dope, and have any screenies, wtf is the point.

I have a list of features posted later..

screens look nice, but what's up with the third person view? hope that's not the way the game's gonna be played, though the option would be nice

I don't know where you got that information, but Juno Beach was one of the most heavily fortified of the 5 beaches, and the Juno Beach was still the only beach that saw its objectives captured on time. The fact that more people died on a certain beach than another does not mean that it was easy on the other beaches, there were mistakes made and errors exposed by the German defences. No beach was a cake walk. 21,600 Canadians landed on Juno and captured the beach on time while suffering over 1000 casualties.

What about Dieppe. You want a cake walk? Of the roughly 5,000 Canadians who embarked for the operation, only 2,210 returned to England, and many of these were wounded. There were 3,400 casualties, including nearly 2,000 prisoners of war; over 900 Canadians lost their lives.

Don't get me wrong, the Americans had it tough, but using their sacrifices to somehow demean or lessen that contributions of 1000s of dead Canadians who gave their lives for freedom is just plain wrong.

As for Call of Duty 2, I'd like to see something more than just the same old TDM and DM gametypes. I'm getting way bored of Call of Duty and the like, just because the gameplay is so overdone.

I always thought canadians were never really in any big wars until last year when it said in a little caption that canadian, american, and british troops stormed the beaches of normandy.

We never went over it in Social Studies, but that little caption told me that canadians were in the war.

I also met a canadian(who loved to express that he is canadian, I still chat with him via MSN Messenger), who actually told me quite a bit.

One of there teachers read a journal of a german general that talked about how he feared the canadian troops the most.

Quite intresting I must say.

So I personally have acknolodged the canadian role in WW2 for quite some time. Were they in WW1?

I'm so hoping for a German scenario. I haven't played any game that has had one. You could start it from the war in France or operation Barbarossa and it would continue to the bitter end. Maybe a transfer to the western front at some point. It would rock. I'd hate the devs though if the Germans spoke English. I don't like it when everybody in CoD speaks English with an accent. I'd also drop out the must-have jeep/truck drive and shoot stuff.

We have the horrible habit of cutting military spending during peace time. At the end of WWI, we had the second largest navy in the world behind Britain and the fourth largest infantry army. After WWII, we had similar figures.

School is not really the best place to learn about history, surprisingly. From my experience, most history courses teach the subject in a biased sense, as in, every German fighting in the army was a Nazi, when in reality they were fighting for their country, not their ruling political party (imagine how ridiculous it would sound if people in 60 years said soldiers in Iraq now were Republicans, while some are, its an extreme generalization). The American education system is generally geared towards teaching the history of America, and only that. Even World History courses focus on American happenings, and usually leave out "smaller" countries like Canada, Australia, and sometimes leave out Britain, France, Germany, etc.

Call of Duty from a German perspective would be extremely interesting, too often games de-humanize the enemy and really don't show them to be what they actually were -- young men with friends, girlfriends, and families.

am I the 1000th dude here who ask's the following

screenshots n1?

and will be ignored?

only time will tell

edit after reading the tread: to the poeple who are going to charge at me with their full might and tell me off with the text "don't ask for scans". I was asking if anyone had screenshots, I wasnt asking FOR screenshots, I was asking if any one had them.

(offcourse if someone would pm them to my pm box by accident, as they where just trying to e-mail the PCgamer editors informing them of this awfull illegal publishing and mistaken their e-mail proggie or whatever for my pm send thingy, I would not be mad of this distributing, I would just tell them a big thanks.. eh I mean bad boy BAD boy! and let them think about their unsightfull deeds in shame)

Yeah, Forgotten Hope was cool. (I haven't played it in a while)
I can't imagine what those guys could do with the BF2 engine.

I have to say, it looks and sounds darned impressive.

Guess we just have to wait for the official releases, or for the mailman

After all this the word "Duty" is becoming more and more hilarious. Just look at it, Duty doesnt even look like a real word.

it's too naturalistic. Look at the details ..all the soldiers faces are expressive.

Look at the lst page top left pic ...the clothes have folds that stick out from the leg (not just a skin) the 2 soldiers are in very natualistic poses ..the one on the right is craning his neck to see over his shoulder ..it's an artistic rendition not a screenshot ..we're not there yet with that level of fluidity of movement

Were the screens in PC gamer actual screenshots? If they were the game looks f-ing amazing. Best looking war fps by far.
