Ce Vs Gold Unfair?

Hey dudes, and duddettes,

Not sure if this has been mention but don't you feel its unfair for us CE owners to have so much little compared to the Gold package. Its a 10 dollar difference but the gold owners get so much more. ( COLLECTORS BOX WHICH SHOULDN'T BE THERE-SHOULD BE EXCLUSIVE TO RETAIL)

I want the hat mainly :p

Now I am not sure if I should cancel my preorder and buy gold package. What would you do?

Man I hate the way Valve/VV treats there customer.
 
You should get a better haircut if you rather wants to wear that hat then have the CE edition :|
 
That's not all. If we in Europe want the ce, we'll have to wait untill the 10th of december. The normal one is on sail on the 16th of november. I must agree that for a minor 10 dollar difference you get a lot more with the goldpackage. But since I haven't got a creditcard the only option for me is either normal or ce. I'm mainly going for hl source. Hope it's worth the wait.

I should have phrased it better, but what I'm trying to say is the owners of the CE get the short end of the stick.
They get the guide, hat, poster what do ce get? A bs book that promotes more buying and a shirt.

I am actually thinking now to cancel my ce and use it for mgs 3 for ps2
 
True, but why do you want all that uneccesary stuff :s *gg spell*

The books I can understand, but CE is for RETAILers, a GAME BOX and it's Vivendi who's in charge of it. :/


Do what you think is the best, I would go for the CE and just order the books ;P

yeah it is unfair.
it seems to me (personally) that some of us gamers (those who would have bought the CE who now have purchased the Gold package) are caught in the middle of whatever scabble Valve and VU are having.

there would be no questions asked if the CE contained the things it already offers, plus the hat, Soundtrack and an "Extras Disc" featuring enemies/levels which didn't make it into the game or some such.

oh well.. whats done is done :|
 
hmm true, i know i wont be touching dod. Theres just a huge difference between them 2 in contents.

:dozey: CE package only contains what items? Does it have Half Life:Source?
 
Will there be any other legal way to get HL: S without having to buy the CE or Gold.
 
I think CE retail should get the same stuff that Steam gold users gets.. and + the CE gets released in december here in Europe.. how fun is that on a scale between 1-10 ?
 
I would love the following change
The real prima stregty guide (not a hybrid), im buying the raising the bar anyway...it seems a waste to include the hybrid book in something that those that buy it would be the most likely to also buy the raising the bar (collectors after all)
The dam soundtrack! Why was this not in the collectors edition.
 
The CE contains a Half-life 2 t-shirt, Half-life 2, CS:Source, HL:Source and maybe (hopefully) a manual. Oh ya and a box.

The only reason it is possible to recieve more than the CE is simple. Valve doesn't have to pay costs of packaging in a printed box, shipping it to stores, and making dvd's. All this can go into giving more free goodies to the fans who purchase through steam, which is nothing but a double click away bud. :D
 
It's not unfair because they want you to buy through steam. I'm not sure if you can but at my local convenience store you can buy a temp. credit card with money on the account (20, 50, $100 etc). I don't recall any age restrictions.
 
I don't think that it's entirely unfair, but strange that Day of Defeat: Source doesn't come with the CE. I somewhat suspect that the soundtrack might be accessible in some form on the DVD, since the HL soundtrack was right on the original CD. I can't complain too much, though, since I only payed $59.95 for an early preorder of the CE. I wouldn't pay $79.95 though, especially since we'll likely get these Source mods for free sometime down the line, just as the HL mods were slowly released over time. I plan on selling the T-Shirt, so I'll end up with a decent deal.

Im getting standard and hoping i can upgrade later...through steam when they take switch or i can use a mates credit card.
 
just cancelled my CE reservation about an hour ago. I bought steam silver. and i'm gonna buy the strat guide seperately. and as soon as I get a dvd burner I'm gonna backup everything and follow the various box/dvd art sites and have a hardcopy =]
 
Buy retail CE and you get a metalbox... buy Gold and you get an ugly box.

but it is unfair.
i am already paying an arm and a leg for the Gold package and i don't get a DVD and t-shirt? wait i know what ur gonna say next so let me say it for u, "why not get the CE then?" because i want the contents of the Gold package as well.

point is, Valve and VU did mess up on this.. all they had to do is look at the Diablo2 and Warcraft CE's and see how happy their fans/gamers were... this is something those that paid for the Bronze /Silver and Normal retail packages will not understand.
 
This is perfectly fair. You CHOOSE which one to buy.

However, even IF it weren't fair:
Life ain't fair. Get used to it.
 
I reckon its stupid that you get less in the CE than in Gold. I live in New Zealand and I would love to play DoD:S, but having the Gold box shipped over would be ridiculously expensive. Silver is pretty much out of the question as I like to have a proper, official box and disk case, which I can proudly display on my disk rack. Much as I think publishers are generally idiots and I would rather support Valve directly, decent broadband is kinda hard to come by over here. Therefore they should better support retail buyers.

BTW, Collectors Edition is always the best you can get, just not now, but is should be. Just my 2cents worth...

when was it confirmed its metal?

All i have seen is that all black box with the 3 box arts from the standard edition in the middle.
