You'd be surprised how "protective" some "religious" parents can be. Being overly protective is as (or more) damaging psychologically as letting you kid do anything and everything they want.

My parents were overprotective, but I have enough of a brain on my shoulders that it didn't work too well. Until I reached highschool I had social problems mostly because of my parent's overly protective nature. I suppose on the positive side, my parents are nothing in comparison to what both of those two people probably had to deal with.
