Its a great area, its enjoyed by many of us.
I don't think its fair for the moderators to do something as major as this without consulting the members of the forum.

Have a global poll, thats the only fair way imo.
A lot of people enjoy a sensible debate, and alot of them occur, sure its ruined the odd time, but its still enjoyable.

Politics affects everyone, its very important and its a good idea to contain it to its own place

Please keep it, or at least do a poll. You'll make alot of people angry if you take such an decision without having the majority of the forum behind you.

Unacceptable.

No it is unacceptable.
I will continue to be a member, but I've lost alot of respect for the moderators on this bored.

Did Bliink vote?
Solaris said:
The others who didn't vote to close it wern't counted.
Edit: Bliink how could you :(
You're right, he was a troll that used profane language and was completely illogical :hmph:
Sure, the moderators have the final word, but couldn't they just have put certain filters on that would prevent certain subjects not to be posted (and, if bypassed, receiving a heft ban) ? And add a list of subjects that are not to be made threads about to be visible to the public?

Solaris just believed stuff like this had to be discussed democratically. You can see he was appalled because of this not happening.

Ironically, he was banned in the politics forum.
A place for debate.

nah, I'll fade into obscurity before that happens
You need to stay around long enough to make another ~800 posts and unseat TDE/Fenric for the #1 spot. Without the Politics section that will take... what... a year? :p

i don't know about others but i don't think solaris should've got banned because of this poll, if it it...

well with the lack of quality threads it would take me a very very long time ..if Jack Thompson retires then I predict it'll take me a decade or so

my main reason for being here is because I like and respect a lot of you ..but I dont think I would have come to that conclusion (well it would have taken me a lot longer) if it were not for the fact I quickly understood who some of you were because you laid it all out in the politics forum (some of you probably revealed a little too much ..I'm looking at you lemonking) ...kinda hard to judge what a person is really like if all they ever do is post spam

i've never even seen 670 people vote for a poll... *me thinks and remembers munro's join date is in the 1970's... thinks more... doesn't say anything...*

Just tell me it will be archived somewhere. I still get a kick from looking back at certain topics, like Apos ripping into people over Terri Schiavo or Mecha's "LOL MATRICES" debate with that ID nut.

They edited it.

The Politics forum sucks, but the whole purpose of it was back during the US 2004 election.. there were so many uncontrollable politics threads that this forum was made. Its filled with a bunch of racist, patriotic, crazy shit now.

However, I don't think that it should be closed. I think that the mods should abandon it all together. Keep this political crap out of General Off-Topic!

Its not my decision, though.

Besides, Stern loves it, and he has the most posts. :stare:

And if you ask me, Beerdude, it seems like Solaris has a rightful ban from all that crap you quoted him for.

How so? He questioned the staff's judgment.

Think what you want of Solaris and his unpopular ideas/posts, but he was not deserving of a ban.

I've seen far, far worse, though. Getting banned because you "lost respect for the moderators" and you find it "unacceptable" that the moderators decided to close the politics forum is just plain silly.

I don't agree with the ban because of those particular posts, but they show how much of a twit he could be. "Unacceptable."

I'd like him banned cuz he's a twit. Mostly, I'm referring to his support for IRA terrorists and his view that how they kill people is cool. :|

Is twit a word?

I wasn't too sorry to see him go either

Banned for the wrong reasons though.

I'd like some proof of that, please. I've made the forum for his mod and he stated more than once that he does not agree with IRA terrorist actions, but he does agree with the initial uprising when they were fighting against people that actually threatened them. (I'm not too up to date about all those fights, so I might be wrong. Give me an unbiased source so I can read up on how it began, because that's where his mod is supposed to revolve around.)

And I don't think twit is a word :p

Oh, and you do know he can still read all this, right?

Personal feelings regarding Solaris are kind of irrelevent. An injustice is an injustice either way.

He was banned for the same reason that the politics forum is closing, ie. people can't cope with reading other people's opinions.

And twit is a word.

lol the Politics forum has been the trash of this website ever since it was created. no where else can you be flamed more easily.

ill find it for ya, beerdude, if i can.

I guess it was a mod idea he had, as well as a few posts other than that.

And Absinthe, I'm just saying he was a twit and should have been banned ages ago. I do think that he shouldn't have been banned for what he said there, but he should be banned for just who he is ;)

WTF? Did someone edit the edit the friggin' poll? Close it, political threads will move to off-topic and everyone will want this forum back

eh, fine, whatever, i just remember that Angry Lawyer's dad was shot by some IRA jerkoff and Solaris defended them

i dunno, he always had a "twit" persona but i guess that isnt base to ban him

im glad its closing this is a gaming site not a political one.

Right, who fixed up the results???? That's a sign of dictatorship!!!

Anyway, I hate that it's going, it was the funniest part of HalfLife2.net

EDIT: I DEMAND that Solaris is to be un-banned! :flame: :flame: :flame:

yes I agree ...I had fun, I laughed, I cried, I pooped my pants ... it was the best of times it was the worst of times. Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. We shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender

maybe the end of the end or the beginning of the beginning

or the middle of the end

or the kinda-close-to the end but also the beginning

Stop with the bloody clichés for the love of god!

this is the beginning of the close to the end

hey angry guy: ....no

But the struggle must go on! We shall not fail or falter; we shall not weaken or tire...Give us the tools and we will finish the job.

In fairness. This is a gaming site, that's what it was created as. In it's short time on the site the politics forum has caused more bans, trolls, and generic flames than any of the other sections combined.

It even indirectly caused the site to be attacked from outside.

Arguably these forums aren't responsible, but rather the people posting in it, however, this demonstrates the unsuitability of such a section on this site, and ultimately this is what is leading to it's closure.

Hope this clears things up.

that was my fault (too many people hate me ...mostly right wing extremists ..oh and that girl I cheated on a long long time ago) ...ban me if that will spare the politics forum ..I'm a willing sheep ready to be sacrificed

Believe it or not, moderating is not just closing and banning, its stopping things from getting to that stage. If a forum goes to shit its the fault of the mods, or the owner for employing mods who cant/wont get the job done.

Frankly, whatever the admins decide will happen. Also, everyone voted to have this erased, and there's nothing you can do about it.

That's one of the most stupid posts I've ever seen. :|

You want to moderate the Politics forum? Ha, I'd love to see you try.
