Cloverfield

Never seen those pics, cool. Though I'm sure those might be from before the film happens.

Speaking of pics, does anyone have those sonar images of the creature heading toards NYC that were sent out in emails?

Id have to imagine it is. Its either standing straight up or swimming upwards or something. For comparison heres the concept art from the last page

The small lanky things under what I'm guessing is the torso at the top look like the arms, only much smaller. What's up with that?

why the hell are people making movies with such generic looking monsters...like lol that's not original or scary at all

I have no idea. The ones on its side look like tiny fins or something, not sure what the ones near the top would look like.

How exactly is it generic looking?

To be fair, the head of the creature on that concept art pic is pretty much a straight rip-off of a Warhammer 40k Tyranid. Not that I'm complaining as it looks cool, and I haven't seen the movie so I've no idea how it plays out in the actual feature.

Its a bit different in the move. I'd say the heads a bit skinnier, maybe a bit more spiney? Im not sure. I saw a few .gifs laying around somewhere that have some pretty good shots of the monster. Although I always assumed the thing was just a mix of a bunch of deep sea creatures.

I really shouldn't look at the monster any more than I already have done haha. I've seen the concept art and the .gif of it up close. I'm pleased that it looks quite cool but annoyed at how long it's taking to come out over here. I could of avoided spoiler temptations if it was coming out a few days later here.

grr.

The head is much more...humanoid looking. And Adrik, I think the ones on the side are like vestigial crab legs.

yea i know this is from doom but this is an example of a much more manacing monster than the cloverfield one...honestly which one would you be more afraid of?

even better is this:

The cloverfield monster. Plus coupled with parasites that make you ****ing explode upon being bitten I'll take my chances with that slow flying eyeball D:

Anyone hear the end radio message? I exited the theather too early.

F*ck.

Didn't they blow the shit out of it?

Oh snap! I was just at www.1-18-08.com and if you click in the middle of the pictures and shake the mouse back and forth really fast the pictures flip.

Also if you have the site u and let it sit there for a while a really loud roar can be heard, scared me shitless.

Yeah the roar got me once too. I left the page open in a tab once the next thing you know "RROOOAOAOOAOAOOAAOOAOAOOAAR". Almost jumped out of my chair.

Also the writing on the back of the photos led to some of the early ARG stuff. None of the new photos have any writing on the back though.

We stayed to hear it. It was super faint and played backwards. Not really worth hearing in the theater.

Probably one of the best movies I've seen in a long while....quite awesome. I hope they leave it the way it is, as a sequel would burn in flames, I'm sure. But, that's my opinion, and if they make another, I'd go watch it :D

Saw it again today, just noticed how funny those parasites sound. I rolf'd actually.

Very good in itself, but the camera motion made me sick...

Same.

More information about the monster and what happened after the events in New York would be great. A parallel storyline involving the military might work. I thought that the combined helmet cam footage of the soldiers would be quite a pretty neat idea for a sequel.

Exactly what I'm thinking. Just combining all sorts of footage, and including footage of when the characters meet up with the military first off in the subway, and we see them as they are, Hud with camera in hand and all...and finally see what happened to Ms. Explody-pants.

Hell, it doesn't even have to be a full blown movie, it could just be clips on a web site, though I would prefer it to be in a theater, as the whole sound/big screen just put me into their shoes even more. My heart was racing throughout the movie, I was figiting. It was just awesome.

just came out today in the uk and i went to the first screening

absolutely loved it.

my only gripes were it went on about 10 minutes too long. there was stuff clapped on the end that didn't need to be there i think. i also preferred the scenes earlier on where you only see glimpses of the monster. i prefer things like that left to the imagination really

other than that, one of the most tense things i've watched in years

One of the best movies I've seen in a very long time.

Did it just come out in canada too?

Anyone know if theres a screener out yet? I wanna watch it again, without having to pay $13.50.

No, it came out on the 18th here, but I just never got around to seeing it until last night.

SPOILERS AHOY. MANY, MANY SPOILERS.

Just got back from seeing it. What a seriously fantastic movie. Wow. It's just... all of it... fock, excellent all the way through.

Shakey cam can be bad - very bad - but it works so well in this movie. Sure, it's hard to tell what the **** is going on and it's chaotic as hell but that was the beauty of it - it captured the intense situation so, so well. Every single thump and crash, or scene involving something falling down and blowing up, or just the quiet, awkward moments, or the conversations... all of it flowed so well.

And the sound, too. Man, I don't think I could watch this film again unless I was in a cinema because surround sound played such a heavy part in setting the chaotic atmosphere of the film. When Hud is seperated from the rest of the crew when the military start advancing up that street I was literally terrified because it was so damned loud. You could really relate to how scared Hud sounded down behind that car when they started rolling tanks past him, firing missiles past him and opening fire with every single gun all around him because it really was a HOLYSHIT moment. I-n-t-e-n-s-e.

I don't see how anyone can complain about the actors because if you ask me, it was spot on. I haven't been in a situation involving a very large monster tearing shit up, but I've been on film and seen film footage of nasty stuff happening (not quite as spectacular, but one of my mates got footage of us out mucking around in town before and during a night when we were chased by a very large group of angry yobs, but again, not quite as comparable but the same sense of panic, urgency and fear is there in everyone) and if you ask me it was spot on how it should of been.

There's not much, if anything, I have to complain about. The monster hitting the helicopter was a bit odd, and how they survived that nosedive was weird, and then Hud getting eaten... how did he not hear it coming? I mean, we hear this creature throughout the entire movie in the distance and then it just appears at the end and gobbles him up. On the subject, what I did notice was how the film didn't show many people getting killed up close and in your face, so that when you saw the soldiers in the infirmary with their stomachs ripped open quite graffically, and then actually seeing the sillouhette of whatsherface exploding in a shower of gore in the hazmat area, really did come as horrifying scenes. I still can't get that out of my head - her starting to bleed from the eyes and mouth, then being rushed away as she vomited blood before literally blowing up horribly against the curtain... wow.

I'm probably rambling because I'm so hyped right now but damn, what a movie.

SPOILERS AHOY

The monster hitting the helicopter was a bit odd
I think the monster was simply attacking anything that looks like it could have dropped bombs on it, and the helicopter was the closest aircraft to it. It lunges out to attack it, and the helicopter is just far enough away that it only gets pushed away.

and how they survived that nosedive was weird
The helicopter didn't fall all that fast, and fell at a constant rate, and it wasn't until the final few seconds when it tipped on its side and started falling quickly. It looked survivable, just not very comfortable :p

Oh, I thought the attack was plausible (somewhat) but it kinda felt a bit... eh, a forced pacing effort to get the characters out of the sky and back into the impending doom. A bit too much like that scene in Godzilla if you ask me. I reckon it could of been done better in some other form. Like I said about Huds death, I think that too could of been a bit better than ''hey, I'll just go get my cam-- OH SHIT HOW DID THAT 50 STOREY MONSTER GET SO CLOSE BEHIND ME WITHOUT ME REALISING BEFOREHAND?''

I mean, they were in a big open park afterall. It was literally right above him when it happened, so how did he not see it when he turned back to get his camera? Still awesome, though. Although I would of thought the monster, it's face being so big, would of faceplanted the ground pretty hard just to get at him.

As for the helicopter, yeah, it probably looks a lot faster through the hand held cam, which is being thrown around at a really chaotic rate, which makes it seem all the much worse.

I gotta say though, I thought the monster was really impressive. It actually did freighten me in places. I'm happy with the end result and I'm glad it's not something we already know about.
