COD4 review

I just played the demo. The game looks really nice, but the gameplay is a bit meh IMHO. Scripts, scripts, scripts - I was hoping for at least a slight change here. At one point I was shooting the bad guys with a picked up Dragunov, alongside with my buddies, wondering how much more of them there are left, when after about 5 minutes I realised I have to move on to trigger another objective/script. I don't like the idea of an infite number of enemies that will attack you until you do something.

I also don't like the fact that I'm doing all the additional stuff - Jackson do this, Jackson do that, oh Jackson you're so special, you can take on any role.

Also - I had the ragdolls supposedly turned on, but I saw death animations instead?

honestly, i was kinda disappointed with the demo too
multiplayer is where the game really shines
give it a try!

I got 2 words for COD4; Great F!@#$King Game!!!

... OK, 3 Words.

[Note to thread viewers]: COD4 has nothing to do with previous COD franchise except sharing name with. {/Note to thread viewers]

Ok so this game is completely badass the demo did this game no justice. Both the SP and MP are just so much dam fun I'm struggling bouncing back and forth between them! :bounce: AC-130 mission for the WIN!

I just wish the PC version would come out over here already.

BTW Barney Fife, that's not correct, CoD4 was made by the same guys who made CoD1 and CoD2, so it's related to them in more than just sharing name.;)

Oh! No. Ukraine and taking the guy out was for the win... Specially, on your way out of the mission. Jesus al have dreams about that.

That was pretty damn cool.

No. I was talking about the game missions and storyline; that, COD4 has nothing to do with the typical previous COD; like, game-play and missions.
This game is way more of and new COD, everywhere you look at it.
You'll know when it comes in your area and you play, you will be flabbergasted, I swear.

You never chased anyone on foot in a town in any of the previous COD have ya? I won't say more cuz you will hate me. ;)

They say the single player campaign is short so I will pass on this game until the next gaming drought for me. I must make room for Crysis.

Short and sweat. I will replay this game for so many more times to come. Crysis my hold the graphic trophy but COD4 holds every other trophy.
They said Easy level is about 6Hrs, I'm playing now 8Hrs and not finished yet on regular, think how many hrs on veteran?

It is also related in names, like the SAS 'leader', Price or w/e he's named, is from the previous CoDs, both designwise and voicewise, aswell as namewise :p

WILL YOU LISTEN TO ME? COD4 has .... Oh! Forget it ... Just forget it @#$%^***

I just got done playing for tonight. So far, "Ghille'd up" is by far the best mission.
Playing on my living room 72" TV on 1080p, lord have mercy on immersiveness. Everything feels so genuine in this mission.

I am playing with the difficulty level on the level thats after regular but, before the hardest difficulty. The arcadyness gets me so pissed at times I wanted to rip the game apart. In certain sections of the mission enemies keep coming and coming until you(the player yourself, not even your team)take the initiative to advance, but, it's so risky because often enough you'll be pummeled by thousands of bullets from 100 enemies. If you decide "play-it-safe" and sit back and camp while picking your foes from a distance, they keep coming back and will eventually flush you out with magical grenades that somehow always land 10 feet behind you. This would be the biggest thing I dislike about the game, but then again... it is a Call of Duty.

Multiplayer is good, nothing too short or too extravagent. I don't like the ability to call for air support even if you can only use it if you get a streak of 3 or more kills, those come easy. The air support addition just seems like a desperate attempt to add flavor to the multiplayer aspect, to me it just doesn't fit in I think it's because the maps aren't even that big, people can barely breathe in them and so far they haven't proved themselves to be a crucial addition that could change the tides in the match around like you would have in BF2 with the artillery. One super biggie is not being able to play a split screen on Xbox LIVE. My brother and I tried to connect to LIVE doing a 2 player split screen on one Xbox with this game; wasn't happening. Unless we're doing something wrong.

OMG

Do I get this for 360 or PC? I was in the 360 MP beta and I really enjoyed it with the controller suprisingly.

HELP MEH!

Cool people play on PC.

Also you live near me.

Blimey. How much did that cost? LCD, DLP?

So far i've sworn by projectors for big screen gaming, but panels are quickly catching up in size. The day we can hang a 100"+ panel on the wall (and for it not to need a crane to get up there or require it's own power station) will be awesome.

I hate you!:(
My thoughts exactly. I have a 40" and I thought I was doing pretty well! And its only 720p. :(

Ugh, can't wait for work to end so I can go rent this and the GOTY Oblivion edition to see how everything looks/runs on my PS3/360. Plus I have tomorrow off. Sweet gaming bliss all day!!

Hahaha! Man, the box for my 40" LCD was HUGE. I bet you would need to knock down a wall to get the 100" version in! :)

heh probably. Or maybe we'll be able to roll them down like a blind, or just appear at any size we want on our special futuristic wall paper :)

Damn. I forgot about those. That would be killer: streaming video content to your wallpaper. Wicked. :E

Got this game today, Multiplayer is one of the best experiences I've had online with a game. It's epic. The graphics and gameplay is beyond stunning.

I'd rush out to buy this game if November wasn't the month just about every game I wanted jumped out of hiding. Guess I'll have to find a new job. :(

Same. Curse November!

I was waching some Youtube videos last night and it reminded me just how fun the MP beta was a few months back. All the maps were just so... detailed. By the sounds of it, they've put loads of empthasise on the MP which I'm all for. I can't wait to have a look at some of the unlocks that weren't in the beta.

Im looking forward to the custom class, seems kinda similar to the newer of the Battlefield series, but better :p

Its out tomorrow, cant wait to get my hands on it.

360 or PC?

The custom classes are a fantastic feature. I had mine set up really detailed. For the indoor map, Vacant, I had a class called 'Commando' where I had a Skorpion SMG, a USP silenced and the perks Radar Jammer, Deep Impact and Special Grenades (Flash and Stun, I think), then for the map Overgrown, which is fairly large, I had classes called 'Gunner' where I would use an RPK support gun with a grip or red dot sight. It was awesome, and it all worked so well once you played the maps enough to work out what works best.

I've seen some of the walkthroughs to the maps and some of them look fantastic. What I enjoyed in the beta was, although the maps were small in theory, they were large in actual content, and by that I mean it wasn't just a bunch of boxes for houses that you could go around, you could inside them, upstairs, through blown out sections, etc, and thus it gives a somewhat small map a really deep feel to it. There was a map called Crash which was a small city map but from the looks of it theres some really quite larger ones.

I'm stuck where to go next: Call of Duty next week, or Mass Effect in 2 weeks. Gah.

I got the ps3 version thinking there was mouse/keyboard support (got a 52 inch aquos so I wanted the experience)

there was no support, but pleasantly enough the analog stick control is some of the best i've ever used

hmm cod4? Assasins Creeds? Mass Effect?

*Facepalms*

It's a mitsubishi DLP, I don't know the exact model. I don't know how much my mom's boyfriend purchased it for but, i'm sure it was cheap. LCD and plasma have superior image quality but, to me the DLP still looks marvelous with COD4

Stupid Blockbuster not having CoD4 until tomorrow. I will be there right at 10am to check out the first copy of the PS3 version. Frankly it works out better this way because the Uncharted demo is taking all my time tonight!!

PC multiplayer is great, I see many hours. Single player is pretty meh overall.

OMG! What a way to end a game....

Infinity Ward, I stand and applause before you ... Bravo! Bravo!

I beat the single player in about five hours. It was pretty decent, although some bits were a lot better than others. I liked how they mixed up the characters a bit and had purely story/atmospheric bits. The animations, especially the hit ones, are really top-notch.

Heh, check out Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 for the Wii:

IGN said:
For as good as the console version of Call of Duty 4 looks, the controls in Medal of Honor Heroes 2 absolutely spank it

May have to check this one out too because apparently in terms of the FPS controls on a home console:

IGN said:
If you thought Metroid Prime 3 got it right, wait until you get your hands on this one.

Im on 2 minds about COD4. I dont like playing MP with people I dont know, are there any clans going I can join?

First impressions:

Singleplayer: It's still your basic COD game, but much, much more detailed. Things like room clearing, cover, animations and tactics of your squadmates and enemy soldiers, general use of weapon regarding the perks like deeper bullet penetration, etc. It's very fun stuff. I'm only on level 3 at the moment but so far I'm enjoying it. Everyone and everything around you doesn't feel so tacked on, it all feels like it had a good amount of time put into it. As far as story goes, it's your basic action game, but the cinematics really do take it to that next step for entertainment. This isn't going to break any boundries, but it's a damned good experience none the less.

Multiplayer/Online: I enjoyed the beta quite a bit, considering that the levels weren't anything compared to some of the ones I've seen so far. I may of said this someplace else in the thread, but although on paper the maps are small, and can be seen from the other side of the map, the amount of detail put into each building and area in the environment really opens up what is a small surface area into a immensly detailed maze-like battlefield, with fire fights ranging from up high on roof tops, in the streets and from building to building. I've already gone over the perks and custom classes so all I can say is I can't wait to unlock some rarer goodies like the G3 and the P90.

Singleplayer : Contains (havent finished it yet) so far some of the best moments ive ever had in a game.

Not that its much of a spoiler, as an example, but the sniper mission i thought was absolutely..epically..just superbly executed. Ive never been under such nerve in all my life in a game, and the way they incorporated all the real world stuff like wind and the spinning of the earth..i mean wow, also the end was just...so memorable i want to play it again.

Yet to play the Multiplayer at all, but wireless connection start-and-stop lag im sure will piss alot of players off..but that wont stop me later tonight.

This game is like COD2 on crack. Its faster, more ruthless, more detailed, more passion, more of everything thrown into a superb engine (some of the death animations have me giggling with glee, like watching a guy get hit in the leg as he's running causing him to stumble forward, then fall accordingly as to where your next shot is placed...i love stuff like that when it comes to realism), huge splashings of redbull and alike and then churned out with everything you want COD to be but 100% more.

I really enjoyed the sniper mission at the start. It reminded me of the first-person scenes through Jacksons scope in Saving Private Ryan, when he's in the clocktower firing down on the advancing German troops and you see a few of them go down but don't die, instead try to crawl away, or go down from a shot in the leg then get up and limp away. Was cool.

Hearing the MP is good I'm a bit tempted to buy it, especially that my brother is kinda hyped for this game and we could simply get our cash together (half price for a game ftw). I presume you can set up different profiles (unlike in TF2 for example - wtf?)?

Where can I download a COD4?? Direct2Drive is still showing pre purchase AARRGHHH!

Damn the sniper mission was the best and most favorite from the start to the end. Specially how it ends when you and your comrade fight for dear life.
I can't say more about the mission cause it will spoil the best part about it. But yeah, that was a great mission.

rub it in barney! where can I download the game, all he shops are shut
