Company of Heroes = the best game ever?

The thing is that a large amount of Axis players (me included) go after the fuel points immediately and tend to defend them as strongly as possible (and OP'ing them as soon as possible), up to and including bunkers covering them with Pak38 Support (Even 88's are feasible if placed correctly). Also, if you take the "Defense" Tree (RHS), registered artillery reduces the chance of getting the point drastically, unless a multi-pronged attack takes the OP out.

The AT is overpowered, but can be, as stated earlier by me, taken out by Stormtroopers using Bundled Grenades or Assault relatively easily, or even by a lone Sniper. Personally, I don't know the counters while using the other doctrines for Axis, as I mostly use Blitz for the timely reinforcements and the Assault ability, most of the time, and as Stormtroopers come with the Stuh or Tiger Reinforcements, they just tag along behind the tank whilst it moves foward, and take out AT's before the tank can get within range.

Simple tactic, but it serves me relatively well in most of my games.
And all of that requires massive amount of munitions on your part. So while you're busy wasting mp OP'ing fuel points, precious munitions on grenades and art, and fuel on 88's, he's riflespamming you up the ass, dropping at's behind your defences, and popping smoke (from the munition points he's taken from you) on his Sherman's every 5 seconds to own your tigers.

Or, if he goes inf, he's howie'ing these defences you speak of 24/7.

Not critisising you, just saying it's never that simple.

Exactly.

There is no "perfect strategy" to winning a game, otherwise everyone would be using it and the game would become immensly boring in a short period of time. However, in my wholly personal opinion, holding fuel points is what governs the speed moving up from Tier to Tier, and availability of Tanks, so thus the points themselves should most definatly be held in order to win. Munition points are of secondary concern, whilst Strategic points are a tertiary concern, except when linking between territories.

Still, each player has their own stategy, and modifies it to suit it to whatever the situation demands, which makes each game unique. Mine has suited me so far, so I continue to use it.

I have no idea what you're on about with the 'what that is a big title there', but COH is definitely one of the best games ever, and has gotten a couple of GOTY awards so far.

The Half-Life series. :p

Okay, apparently CoH is supposed to have gore in it...
Like limbs getting blown off, charred corpses, etc.

But I've never seen any of that happen, I just get blood and ragdolls aplenty.

Is there an option somewhere for the gore?

Don't think so?

Does anyone know where to download maps? Has anyone played the campaign? Damn this game is soooo good. Prefer Allies to Axies.

Keeps crashing on the mission where you have to fix the bridge :(

It was all very good up until that point where I couldn't be bothered.

I'll probably end up getting into the MP but tbh, I'm totally shite at RTS :)

just wait until your squad of rifleman gets hit by a Tiger tank shell

Yeah i want to be able to play rts and have fun, but... I SUCK. So it's not on my sex-awesome games list. Looks good from reviews though!

It's the first strategy I had to learn and plan to win, unlike all the others such as C&C, AoE etc. It's very challenging and because of that, very good fun doesn't easily get boring!

The first 10 times I played I lost against the AI, you can read my posts at the beginning of this thread where I just couldn't beat them but still had loads of fun. :)

Yes there most certainly are gibs, it just doesn't happen all the time. Fairly often soldiers will blow apart if they get hit directly by an artillery shell, and randomly from other explosives.

Pretty sure there isn't an option for this specifically... I have my physics on low so can't be that. *shrugs*

Has anyone got some good online playing tactics? What to build first? Rush/Camp? Etc...

:)

I vote most bumped thread ever.

And err, rush and camp in equal amounts. But rush more.

Nothing wrong with bumping a related thread. I still love this game. :p

Played 4 v 4 today, was losing after a really good fight, Axis Tanks, like always, turned the game. So I created 6 squads of Rangers (32-36 men I think). Then a Terror Axis decided to missile it:

All the black dots are body arms, legs, limbs all sorts. It was hilarious, lol.

If anyone wants to play add me, I'm "nicksource" (in chat do, /addfriend nicksource). :)

Dayum. o_o

I just got this game yesterday after reading all the praise in this thread and PCG's 96% rating and awarding it game of the year. I'm only on the third mission but I love it so far. The gameplay is amazing and the graphics are amazing as well, usually with most games it's one or the other but in this case we're lucky enough to have both. The gore is just sick and it really is one of the best RTS games I've ever played (and I'm a pretty big starcraft fan). I'll post more impressions once I play more.

Make sure you checkout Multiplayer, it's really good fun. :)

Stop considering and get out your wallet.

Company of Heroes is my third favorte game/series ever (Starcraft, HL, COH).

Good thing the thread's been revived, I haven't played COH in a month or two because of time constraints, and I'm going crazy.

How about 3v3? My router blocks most games but I get in some.

My game name is: nicksource

Yeah, 3v3 rocks. I'll pop into the lobby and add you...hopefully Ennui will show up.

When you are on we should do a repiV/Mutley/Ennui vs 3 others. :) I prefer Axis but can play as good Allies too.

Got hammerd today by a clan of 3 as Allies and me with 1 good guy and 1 n00b which, we were doing very well early game until we had to keep pumping more and more resources to help the weaker player to hold his line - slowly killing us.

lol ya man i noticed my friend request is still pending
i dont know how you survive!

anyways, my friend told me he came back from a 350-2 deficit to win the game!
luckily he saved the replay so im gonna check it out

I prefer Victory mode best but every server seems to be Annihilation lately.

Tigers anyone? 3v3, we were losing rather badly from their rushes but all 3 of us built up Tiger tanks, 2 each between my team mates and I had a Tiger Ace, so 5 in all. Then we just charged down the middle road, and destryoed all their bases, as they tried to retreat to save them selves we took all the points back but won when we sent some more tanks over to help. :D

could someone give me the low down on mp strats ? i feel like getting into online mp especially so since i have to figure out why supcom isn't running as it should, stupid nvidia. :/

so ..

- what's your build order for rushing, turtling or whatever ?
- useful / useless units ?
- what to cap first ? the point things, fuel or ?
- pros/cons of allies / axis.
- whatever.

.. and so on. :)

by the way, my reliconline username is robotskip.

- what's your build order for rushing, turtling or whatever ?
There is basically no turtling in MP so go for a build order that will give you fast armor.

- useful / useless units ?
The Nebelwerfer is by far the most useless unit in the game. Use one in MP and your opponent will know he is playing a noob.

- what to cap first ? the point things, fuel or ?
Fuel, fuel, fuel. That's what this game is about. Cap the fuelpoints first and defend them with your life. He who has the fuel wins the game.

- pros/cons of allies / axis.
Axis is more fun imo because the units have more variety, but it's also a bit harder to play.

With the first engineers get them to key locations on the map, supported with MG crews as fast as possible.

You want to control choke points and areas of importance to the enemy and you, they are usually in the middle of the map.

thanks so far guys.

on some of the maps i've played (i've only played like ~ 3 2player ones) there are notable points where it would seem perfect to set up a defensive point but because of the way the levels are designed in coh, the maps are so open and you can attack most points from any direction, how do you normally overcome this ?

so, say using first engineer group to bypass the barracks and get the support building (is this possible ? yes, i really am this new, i'll be playing a lot more in the weeks to come ) and have a second engineer squad built and off on his way to fuel or other key points with support (rifleman or mg squads, whatever first) ?

also, are the observation (the things you build on top of fuel/munition points) things worth putting the man power in to ?

random note about my supcom problem: in my account it runs slow, yet on my brother's account it runs perfect, sigh. :/

Only put Observation posts on fuel points when you've got a good defence up.

Use barbed wire at the beginning of the game to block the enemy then start setting up tank traps. As long as you keep attacking them in one direction, you shouldn't have a problem with them flanking you - they only attack from all directions if you let them by not attacking.

The best way to learn is just to keep playing, you'll pick a lot up from seeing experienced players start off - I bet you've seen loads where they send their first engineers to block roads or entrances to fuel points with barbed wire. It's things like that you need to learn. Start of the game is most important because if they have one more fuel point, that's 1 or 2 more tanks for them later in the game.

I disagree on the nebelwerfer part, if you mass up about 10 of them... they're damn good for barrages, if your enemy's stupid enough to bunch up his units.

That's a lot of ifs. And it's pricey. I'd rather have a couple of tanks and infantry than ten Nebelwerfers.

I once held off from total defeat on Seine River Valley by lining my base with snipers, nebelwerfers and ATs. They had most every point on the map (except the guy on the right who was holding his own), and were just sending in sporadic rushes to chip away at my defenses. I'd use the nebels to keep out anything gathering near to my base. Eventually, after several repaired HQs on my part, some help from my not-quite-dead-either teammates, and a whole lotta Tigers, we managed to push back into their bases and win :p
