Comprehensive Look At Direct X10, LongHorn, And Palladium!

Beyond3D has a huge article on what you can expect from Direct X 10. It looks to be the biggest Direct X series yet. If you don't know what Direct X is, it's the graphical capabilities that you can do. So with Direct X 10 games will look extremely good. Much better then even Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 that only uses Direct X 8 and 9. There is a drawback however, Direct X 10 is coming out when LongHorn does, which means it will most likely be ONLY for LongHorn users. The fisrt article below talks about what some of the Features of Direct X10 or (DirectX Next).
As for Palladium, Palladium is Microsofts "Security System" of the future. It will not allow you to install anything that they don't want you to. (Kazaa, Overnet, ANY P2P Program, Illegal software, ETC) and it also encourages companies to make their software REQUIRE Online Activation or phone activation (XP, Norton 2004) Also it makes all companies have to go through them if they want to have their hardware work in the new LongHorn. Which means older hardware will most likely not work. If you remember those messages "This program has not passed the Microsoft Stability Test" something like that anyways, those programs or hardware will NOT run in Longhorn. Microsoft is trying to "Limit" what a PC user can do on their computer. Microsoft is building in software that will replace Shockwave, and the software can NOT be removed. (Sorry ShockWave Fans) Also LongHorn has built in DRM. If you don't know what that is I suggest you look it up. As for graphics LongHorn has taken another huge step forward with such features as wavy windows, but these graphical features come with a HUGE price tag. As you will need atlease a 1.7GHZ with 512MB to run it minimum. 1 GIG recommended. LongHorn is suppose to be a bigger step then Windows XP was. I do believe Microsoft will be collecting data of what you are doing on your computer. If they don't like something you installed, they have the right to delete it from your computer without your consent (In The EULA). Microsoft is dropping support for ALL current Windows operating systems as soon as LongHorn launches.
Personally I will not get LongHorn because of what they are doing with it. I will switch to Linux if I have to. As for gaming I will use Windows 2000 until (2005 When Microsoft Drops support. OH BTW - about the specifications of the machine needed. Its not coming out til early 2005, maybe even 2006 - by then 1.5ghz wont be anything. The fact is hardware is progressing faster and faster and games developer, program developers and now OS developers are starting to drop the < 1ghz computers, because lets face it; we wont progress if we dont up the computer specifications yearly.

if this happens then i'm goin linux. I dunno anything about it, but i'm not gonna have my comp limited by what those meisers at microsoft tell me i should and shouldn't have on my comp. Bill Gates makes enough as it is, and considering i do have alot of pirated stuff on my comp, look how much cash he still pulls in. As if billions of dollars isn't enough. And if you think I´m just promoting Windows I can tell you that I already have a Linux copy but (as of now) I´m keeping it for when Longhorn comes out.

But really I don´t think Microsoft will continue a big company if they do what you´re saying, i mean it´s the beggining of a BIG BROTHER society and people know it (also the most PC´s use pirate software and they would change to Linux)

of course in theory longhorn sounds like the best thing ever. but it'll only work if prices of software start to come down. only then will it be succesful. there is no way that students can afford to buy all of the software they need to use, so something needs to change. i don't see milllions flocking to the stores to buy or even pirate longhorn simply because they won't be able to do anything fun anymore.

You know, there's a Limited Edition of for instance, Adobe Photoshop which is meant for those who haven't got a steady income.
