ok so microsoft COULD do a lot of things. but do you have any basis for any of your claims? any articles about longhorn that suggest the deleting of files? if you find proof, im more likely to side against longhorn. but the problem in this thread is, you have provided no proof of wrong things that microsoft plans to do with longhorn and palladium.

The fact that Microsoft CAN do alot of this stuff is proof enough. They're already pushing the boundaries of what once was said to be laughable. What's to stop them from taking the next step? For now you say it's ridiculous to say MS is going to force stuff like that on us, but when it comes rolling around since no one can stop MS (or is willing to try), what'll you say? Signs only indicate that that's where it's headed.

well we both can't prove anything here.

anyway, have fun with your conspiracy theories. and have fun protesting longhorn and palladium when the time comes. while you guys are still playing old games with dx9 or opengl, ill be enjoying the latest and greatest games with directx 10 on hardware that will take advantage of it. and if you are around this forum in 2006, ill tell you what you're missing.

Besides, you think they wouldn't do it, but does that mean you're willing to give them the opportunity? It's like giving someone exclusive control of your country. No matter what I think of them I would never give them that kind of control.

Ok, come 2006 you can tell us how great it is to have a camera jammed up your ass to make sure you're not smuggling drugs.

and ill ask how you are enjoying doom3 and hl2 while im enjoying doom4 and hl3

posey you honestly think microsoft doesn't benefit every time they gain more control over people's computers? every time they gain a bit of control, they control the market a little bit more in some way. they're eliminating the possibility of competition.

-this security system is designed by microsoft
-the hardware will have to support their system
-new software will have to support the system or the big companies won't publish it. because of piracy fears.

now, is it easy for anyone to make an OS to support palladium? if you're going to integrate it in to the next generation of processors, can anyone make a palladium-equipped OS or is it microsoft's property?

well they can't make palladium open source because hackers would use the source to find a way around the security...so of course it's microsoft only.

so you're telling me that longhorn, equipped with palladium (which is optional...lol, please that's like saying well here's this car that comes with optional steering wheel..of course you need it.) isn't going to make competition with microsoft impossible?

say i have this great OS i programmed...it even has a way to make piracy impossible. but it requires an expensive hardware change. what power do i have against microsoft? their established hardware already supports their system and not mine.

companies have already spent money on learning microsoft's system and buying microsoft's hardware...why should they switch?

i realize that's how microsoft's (imo) monopoly works...it bends the antitrust rules. they make their product SO standardized and SO widespread that it would cost companies a ton of money to switch away. they drive competition away by making it too expensive to switch away from microsoft.

and now, they're gonna change what OTHER companies do? they're gonna make it expensive for AMD to switch...for intel...
jeez...why don't they just buy intel and AMD...they're about to own them anyway :\

and you seem willing to compromise, but unwilling to try to come up with any ideas yourself...or entertain any other ideas that aren't perfect. you talk about hard work paying off, but you've given up on the human race already...and you're only in your early 20s...you're a quitter.

ok so you dont have one. and rightly so, because one DOESNT EXIST. i used to think like you, that there could be a balance. but i realized where i live. PLANET EARTH. there is no other way for companies to get what they deserve besides a system like this. it sucks for us, but its the only alternative.

and you called me bitter?? what events in your life caused you to hate "PLANET EARTH" so much? you really want our system of government to be based on the fear of everyone else and what they might steal from you? hmm...that sounds bad to me.

what lets you sleep at night is telling yourself that there is no other way to solve all these problems...that there is no good in-between idea. well guess what? there is a solution as long as people are willing to work towards it...as long as people are willing to stand up and say something about it.

so i guess all that talk about hard work was just about working for yourself...looking out for #1. i guess you don't give a crap about your fellow man.

yeah...unfortunately about half of americans think like that. they preach about how hard work will lead you to the promised land or something...but only if you work for yourself. working for your fellow man means you're some kind of naive idealist.

Microsoft is evil and thats final.

that's basically the conclusion that 99% of people come to when they look at what microsoft has done over the years...slowly but surely scraping up every bit of control over the computer industry that it can.

it's a good statement as an end to this thread and let it die.

pirating is wrong, but microsoft is wronger!

dont play stupid. i realize the benefit from them gaining a customer. but i dont see the benefit of them doing ridiculous things like deleting files off peoples computers. where have you even heard of the idea? and whats their benefit of making it so you can only use IE huh? they would lose netscape as paying customers. why?

I HATE Microsoft With ALL My Heart! :flame: Thats friggin generic when they sue companies for dumb things like that.

Is it just me, or does that article basically say "microsoft asked daddy, and he said no, so he asked mommy instead." ??

if only more games supported opengl...or if only opengl was better. things like Lindows would be a viable change for most people. I'd switch to a flavor of linux or to mac if i didn't play so many games all the time :\

that's why if directx 10 ends up being longhorn it will be so shitty...you will be forced to upgrade if you want to play the new games. microsoft has never forced win98 users to upgrade to use directx so far...sucks

uhh because in the world of computers. users eventually upgrade? if you want dx9 effects in halflife right now you HAVE to get an ati card, are you pissed about that? its a conspiracy against the populace, ati is trying to take over the world!

come back to reality please. ATI and NVidia already rely on MS to stay in business. they have pricewars between each other and everyones happy. what proof do you have that makes you think thats going to change? and what proof do you have that makes you think its going to be uber expensive to switch? until you have proof, im suspecting it will be the same as any other upgrade. see the problem is, these are all just wacky conspiracy theories you have with nothing backed up from actual press releases from microsoft. and no logical reasons why as well.

Microsoft doesn't have to make a press release for people to know they have something up their collective sleeves.

The logic comes from the history of Microsoft.

what if directx10 was designed from the groundup to take advantage of components that were only present in longhorn? but would be crippled in other OSes? what if the only way to get maximum framerate and eye candy was to integrate it with an OS specificaly optimized to work with it? what if it had nothing to do with the thought of a nazi-like evil world domination. its such a crazy theory, it fits in well with yours. and always know that it IS a possibility.

oh dear lord is this still going on?

put the mouse down and step away from the keyboard. place your hands on the wall. do it now!! *steals keyboards*

if you want to back up your claim, post some history of what MS has done in the past, then we can all see how large the gap of ridiculousness is between those and the conspiracy theories posted in this thread

you're just trashing my 'what if' and replacing it with your own 'what if'. this argument is pointless.

This really is going nowhere, I've read the last 10 odd pages (40 ppp) and well, if things don't take an upturn :hmph:

but which what if is more plausible. you need proof to back up yours, because yours is the outrageous one that has no merit

whats happening in this thread now, is people are realizing they have no factual basis OR logical basis for the conspiracy theories they claim, its life is short.
