WASHINGTON – Summoned to success by President Barack Obama, the Democratic-controlled Congress approved historic legislation Sunday night extending health care to tens of millions of uninsured Americans and cracking down on insurance company abuses, a climactic chapter in the century-long quest for near universal coverage.

Widely viewed as dead two months ago, the Senate-passed bill cleared the House on a 219-212 vote. Republicans were unanimous in opposition, joined by 34 dissident Democrats.

Wish it went further, but this is great news. Especially for my broke fundamentalist right wing American relatives, they deserve health care too!
 
There is something wrong when an entire half of them are disagreeing. But there SHOULD be more democrats than republicans anyways, there's more poor than rich.
 
I don't even want to know how much pork is in this bill. I hate paying for lazy bastards that can't stop buying useless shit off of the TV.
 
For such an inexperienced, ineffectual president, he managed to get a massive Health Care Reform bill passed.

For such an inexperienced idiot like the right likes to think him of, they sure are giving him a lot of credit as having "Destroyed America."

Who else believes if he failed to get it passed, they would have continued to mock his inability to get things done?
 
In all honestly, I don't give a damn about socialized this or that. What I care about is the massive expansion of a bureaucracy run by unmotivated pencil-pushers.

you see with all those other bailouts, there was a shitload of cash to buy votes and i think we'll see more WTF moments coming in the next few months. Out of nowhere this country has taken a turn I do not like. Its all happening too fast and I don't like it.

I love reading the responses of people saying, "Rush Limbaugh didn't say he'd leave the country if Health Care passes! He only meant he'd get his health care from Costa Rica! He didn't say he was leaving permanently!"

Right... as if anybody could listen to that clip... and think otherwise. Sounded like he genuinely meant he was going to get the **** out of dodge.

I like how many people didn't want this to pass, thinking its government getting too big, and yet, had their been a proposal to get rid of social security and medicare, many of these tea baggers would be shitting their pants.

but what about paying taxes for police and fire fighters? Many people may never need to rely on their services in their life, but they dont mind paying the taxes either.

I doubt it. Most of the teabaggers are of the generations that will get little or nothing of their investment in social security.

True, but there are few if any private organizations willing to take up the slack in those areas.

What's your income tax rate?
 
Looks like last year I paid in 4.1% of my income according to my tax return from last year. I paid in 10% of my taxable income, so my 1040 says.

Due to some expiring tax cuts and being able to claim my entire tuition and textbooks, as well as a few thousand miles on my car for business travel, I got a refund.

Firstly I reject the assumption that government has to equal inefficient and unmotivated.
Secondly even if that assumption was true I would still prefer a inefficient and unmotivated government agency to a corporate oligopoly motivated to screw people over.

The health care bill is going to save the US money. Currently the US has bad health care and is paying heaps for it. Reform that increases coverage while drastically decreasing costs should be a no-brainer.

And this is not the big fight in high taxes, defense industry waste and farm subsidy abuse are profound wastes of our money. Keeping your stomach from rupturing spontaneously is pretty vital

Great news. I'd be bankrupt if I ever get ill, since I've never been able to afford health insurance. Now, I don't have a choice - I must have it. Maybe it will even be affordable and won't drop me if I get cancer or someshit.
 
I really don't like the idea of the bureaucracy getting bigger.

There is a part of me that hopes it not as bad as I fear, but I'm pretty damn sure that this is more of the same old shit wrapped in different packaging.

I guarantee that there is a HUGE amount of wasteful pork and there is no telling how deep the lobbyists wormed their way in.

But that's me being pessimistic... or maybe realistic. We will know in time.

Personally I think both Conservatives and Liberals are just blowing shit out their ass on this issue. I seriously doubt many have a clear understanding of how this works... I know I don't, but I seem to be the only one who can admit it.
 
Why is the term "bureaucracy", with all its negative connotations, only applied to government administration and not that of private companies? It can quite accurately describe some of the workings of the latter.

What the ****? Do you make <$10,000 dollars or something? I paid 25% of my income to taxes.
