Conspiracy theories about Tsunami linked to US. Go figure.

manufacturers set the price for stuff they manufacture
farmers have little or no say for the stuff they grow as far as im concerned

sure they do. grow less.... charge more. create a shortage and increase demand and increase the price.

Durr, farmers, my bad. Even still I know some of that stuff has a market value. Pork bellies are traded here. Like florida oranges, there is a market value for those.

im taking all i know from standard grade business managements, as well as higher (which im having seconds thought wether im going to pass the upcoming exams)

them major retailers, walmart etc have a contract with a farm, and tell them they are going to pay them a certain amount of money for a certain amount of bananas (potatoes, whatever) and if the farmer says "hey, i need more, i need to feed my family" then the retailer says "fine. well go to the next farm"

whats more, major retailers are very fussy about the produce they get supplied with, they only want big potatoes, and there is even a law in some country (or EU or some place) about how 'curvy' a banana has to be to go on market, alot goes to waste

The Internet is a shithole. I found a webpage the other day by accident that was some guy's huge thesis on how there are similarities between Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold of Columbine and.....CALVIN AND HOBBES. The sad thing is the guy had thought it out!

But Walmart is such a powerful customer of the manufacturers, that when they want lower prices, they have the leverage to PRESSURE the manufacturers and vendors into lowering costs, which often involves lay-offs and/or outsourcing.

Think about it: You're a company that makes...pickles. Walmart is your biggest purchaser. Walmart decides they're paying you too much for your pickles. Since they're your biggest customer they can then say "We want people to pay $1.97 instead of $2.97 for your gallon jar of pickles, find a way to reduce the costs or you we'll go somewhere else."

Sadly, the "pickle company" example is something that actually happened.

i kind of rushed that, but what was on top of my mind with "manufacturer" was some branded company like muller or Coca-Cola , not the produce farmer.
i provided that as an answer to someone askin about the US exploiting other countries (like those that grow bananas and exotic fruit/veg)
but im not saying that he US is the only country that does this, every first world country probably does.

maybe we should take this matter to a new discussion, its beginning to get off topic

how is that walmart's fault?

Manufactureres set the prices, not wal mart.
Thing is, if a widget-maker doesn't have a dedicated buyer, and Wal-mart comes up and says "we're gonna be the only people who sell enough widgets for you to make a profit, because we'll crush all your other business" then they have very little choice. And since Wal-Mart has so little to lose and the widget-maker has his livelihood to lose, he'll sell for whatever price Wal-Mart says they'll buy for.

Oh come on, bad example. Everybody knows widgets are one of the hottest commodities on the market! There's going to be buyers breaking down their door to get at them.

If you look hard enough you could probably find a consiracy theory linking the US to the black plague, whats the point? No one with half a brain believes this junk.

You sure about that ... ?
