Crysis news/info thread

i loved the demo, can't wait to buy it and enjoy both single and the multiplayer.

the first thing i have to do now is build a new system.

So the Half life Episodes reinvent the FPS?

Never said that. I don't like FPSs at all but Half-Life delivered me some unexpected fun so... yes, in my opinion it has some magic in it.
The demo of Crysis left me unexcited so I expressed my opinion. I'm no fanboy :)

I played the demo for half an hour now and i have to say at first I was a bit shocked how much stuttering i had in the opening ingame cutscene. had everything on high and couldn't get past 10 fps. it drops significantly in every following cutscene - quite annoying. For the part at the beach, i got steady 20-25 fps with everying on high, 1280x1024. Turning down the resolution to 1024x768 and setting everything to medium only gets me 10 fps more, so i guess i will forget about that ;-)

as for the game, i at first it seemed like Far Cry, it still is like Far Cry, but it is fun for me, at least for now. I am eager to play the part on the battleship and in the icy regions. Also loved the dynamic sunrise, absolutely fantastic!

I agree that Crysis may be overhyped a little (or a little more), but some points from the review I posted before seem true already, so it can't be all that bad ...

just read that the german gamestar mag gave Crysis a 94 (1 more than HL2)

AI 8/10:
+ enemies come searching for you, throw grenades
- dumb boss fight
- long range combat confuses the AI

Storyline 9/10:
+ thrilling cutscenes
+ fast-paced
+ surprising alien attacks
- open end (!)

Total 94/100

Okay I'm not going to take reviewers opinions ever again, that's BS.

Hm, seems to be a mix of hate and love for the demo.

I left it to install overnight and I wake up and the installer crashed.
:|

Question : Is it worth redownloading, unpacking, and then installing?(downloading = 2 hours, unpacking = 1 hour, and installing to get up to the point it was last night = 1 1/2 hours).

It's fun run and gunning and blowing stuff up but OMG the AI is amusingly bad, it's nearly unbearable, lol.

Well it runs quite smooth on my 7600gs, in 800x600 with everything on medium hehe..
Some screenshot..

Was fun running around in stealth then hiding and then killing everyone.
Actually that's the only fun thing the suit got ..

That's great to know, although the 800x600 part's a bit unnerving. :X

Did you try any other resolutions? Like 1280x1024?

I think it will run in 1024x768 with options on low..ill try more stuff later.

I also didn't install the new Nvidia beta driver..should I ?

I found it looks A LOT better in your native resolution (same as desktop). For some reason for me, if I had it on 1024x768 (I run 1280x1024 on desktop) it looks weird, low quality, it's strange.

If the Bioshock nVidia driver is any indication on performance difference, I'd say yeah.

Alright so I finished the demo this morning, and fiddled around with settings.

1280x1024 - High: 15-25fps
1280x1024 - Medium: 30-45fps

1024x768 - High: 20-30fps
1024x768 - Medium: 30-50fps

No AA, DX10, 32bit because 64bit doesn't work.

Specs: e6300 @ 3.2 - 2GB PC6400 5-5-5-12 - 8800 GTS 640 SC @ 575

Best choice for me is 1280x1024 medium.

Edit: there are two benchmarks (cpu & gpu) in the game's subfolders btw.

Yeah after playing the demo this is pretty much FarCry 1.5

Actually its more like FarCry Instincts, but with aliens. And not as good. The powers are actually worse than in Instincts. And while the graphics are awesome when it comes to water and your fellow nanosuits guys, its pretty average by todays standards everywhere else. Not to say it looks bad, it looks great. But if it weren't for the facial animation and detail, it would be pretty average. Explosions are very nice though, i take back what i said earlier. But the game still seems like FarCry 1.5

What a surprise. And Far Cry sucked, so that's not good. I'd marry the water though.

The most ****ing annoying thing is that they have first person cutscenes that take control away from the player. There are a few games that do this, like Bioshock and FarCry Instincts, but they don't do this to the same extent that Crysis does. Bioshock does this in one scene and its a particularly brilliant one, and FarCry Instincts cutscenes are very well done, but Crysis just misses the point entirely when it comes to first person cutscenes and its more irritating than impressive. And its not impressive at all.

SOunds like this is yet another game that is more hype than anything else (like Halo 3, what a load of crap that turned out to be, just a better MP with nicer graphics and a few more vehicles, wtf). Currently downloading now from a decent server, about 1000kb/s so its only taking 30 mins but anyway, ill soon have my own verdict.

And for god sake..though my opinion will probably change later...why are people so..critical about games being like others?

Youre saying its just another FarCry? Thats like saying HL2 was just another Halflife. FFS, OF COURSE ITS GOING TO BE THE SAME. Its made by the same people doing what they do best. If it works in the first place (FarCry was awesome as it was original) then why change the formula???

So far, its ok. Im pleased with the performance Ive been getting, its been running somewhat smoothly on 1280x1024 with Medium settings (3.4Ghz Pentium 4, 2Gb RAM, 7800 GTX). I particularly enjoyed the sunrise portion of the demo, that was graphically spectacular for me.

The gameplay is alright so far. Im still fooling around with the Suit skills, and weapon customization. You can pretty much make a transition between 2-3 Suit skills before having to recharge, which is nice. The AI is either kinda dumb (on Hard), or uncanny (Spotting me hiding in the bushes from about a Kilometre away, and proceeding to aim bullets right at me).

I havent finished the demo yet though, so hopefully things will get better from here.

I hate how it takes upto 15 bullets to kill someone at a distance and why the hell do bushes/trees reduce the stopping power of your gun? I couldn't kill a guy below me because some tree leaves were taking the bullets and swaying about, wtf!

Bad AI and bad gameplay. Damn it.

How do you skip the craptastic intro videos?

Go into the Videos folder and delete them.

But the thing is its almost identical to FarCry in everyway. The only exception is the nano-suit powers and a different storyline. The Halo and Half-life series at least mix things up a bit, but if you were to play the demo of Far Cry, and then Crysis it would be like playing Far Cry 2, but with no improvements other than the graphics.

And i figured the whole point to Crysis was that it was a different IP and not Far Cry.

*king metered ISP. My friend is downloading this ~2GB beast for me now. I'll see ya on Monday.

No real suprise that the people dissing the game before it came out are dissing it now. I think it's great fun and does what it does exceptionally well, infact it's bloody fantastic in the action bubbles with the suit combos. Just a few memorable moments from the first play through such as running into huts to take cover only to have the wall blown down by an enemy grenade a moment later, or making trees fall on peoples heads which I've somehow already done twice. Even getting behind a machine gun on a jeep and taking down trees for no reason is transfixing, and extremely amusing.

Feels really solid, Sounds are fantastic, Weapons feel amazing to use. The only negative thing is there was a bug where the 3rd person model became super imposed over the first person view, which was weird.

I'm playing this on medium to low settings on a laptop aswell so I'm not even getting the full immersive pull of the visuals yet, but it's still f***ing great.

Oh, grabbing people is a lot of fun too, just watching them stare helplessly at you.

Its funny you say that, because i remember a few people having a go at me when i said FEAR looked repetitive before it came out, and that Doom 3 looked like an average FPS before it came out. Then both games came out and were exactly that.

I never said it was bad either, i just don't see anything special about it. All i said was that its alot like FarCry Instincts, and if you've played FarCry Instincs you'll know what i mean.

The demo was good, it ran "well" ALL high settings
4x AA 1024x768 res.

1 Gig of ram
7800GTX 256
FX55

But for me to have fun with this game i need the highest dx10 settings with 60+ fps.

Im not playing this game till i buy my new pc. Which should be around MID NOV.
