Dark Messiah Who's getting it.

Bought it retail on Friday as steam doesnt accept Debit Cards..noobs..

First impressions? Its great. Truly great. Little touches like slicing away supports on shelves and watching pots fall and crush 2 or 3 guards, and watching a huge schandalier swing back and forth just begs you to kick a guard in the way, and it ALWAYS causes a little giggle or a out-loud laugh/cackle.

ONE thing has pissed me off. Loading times. oh...my..god. I have an AMD 2800 and 1 gig Kingston RAM and it took about 5 mins (literally, as i started listening to a second song) just to load the level after the prologue...

But honestly, this game IS fun. However, i can see it getting a tad repetitive, even though there are so many ways to kill someone. Get it. No reservation from me, buy this game. Just dont expect Oblivion (as its just been voted best game), but DO expect a good laugh as you massacre swarms of enemies.

Just wish i had more time to play this w/e...have to marshal tournament paintball so will only get to play properly on Monday *sob*.

Screw gamespot :| They slammed DMs combat yet Oblivions combat recieves nothing but praise, and all it consisted of was you hitting a monster with what looked like the weakest swing ever and horrible spell effects "I shot him with a fireball now hes glowing yellow!"

This reminds me when Gamespot was reviewing the latest generation in video card. They SLAMMED nVidia for creating a product that took up 2 device slots, but a few weeks later when ATi came out with their product that had the same exact feature, they said it was innovative and creative.

WUT

After reading reviews and hearing reports from those who bought it (Both positive and negative), I'm definately not getting Dark Messiah. Sure, some people say they love the game, and I believe them, but to me killing enemies in creative ways isn't enough to warrant a purchase. I pretty much got the convienantly-placed-wooden-support-beam bug out of my system with Half-life 2 and the Dark Messiah demo.

Ok so I caved and bought it yesterday, because I'm real close to getting a job where Ill be getting like 200 a week. So far I'm in I think chapter 5...spider temple. So far it has been good but recently I've been getting a ton of lock ups due to the video card overheating, so I called the company and I'm getting a replacement. It's weird that I played it for a long time yesterday, and had no problems, then I go to play today and it's locking randomly a lot.

But don't get me wrong this isn't the games fault, it's my video card. It also happened to me with a lot of the newer-gfx games such as source engine games, hitman blood money, world of warcraft trial ect..... anyway I like what I've played so far, and I've seen a funny glitch as well, in chapter 2 a guard was chasing me and somehow the wood floor underneath him broke and he fell right into the wall spikes on the floor below (and died). And in the chapter I'm in now (chp 5) 2 orcs were fighting me near a ledge of the cliff and I kicked one and he flew back into the other orc and they both fell off the cliff, was pretty cool and funny. The skills are a cool addition that let you play the game the way you want. You could be a stealthy thief character who sneaks around and backstabs enemies and hides their corpses, a wizard whose spells range from telekenises to freezing enemies to shrinking them down to a tiny ant-size and stepping on them, among others...or a straight out warrior whose strength is enough to break enemies shields, knock the weapon right out of their hands, or just simply throw large objects at them. Or maybe even a combination of the three. The choice is entirely up to you which is a great thing, you build your character by gaining skill points and spending them on new skills. And for those who love violence and gore, yes there is plenty. You can kick enemies into fires and watch them turn into a crisp black color as they burn to death, decapitate enemies, slice off arms and legs, ect. The game has well-deserved M rating.

But so far I'm pretty impressed with the SP. Also I'd say don't buy this game just for the MP, it's a nice added bonus but it's not really exceptional in my opinion...the singleplayer is where the meat is at. Overall I think if you're planning to buy this game I reccomend it, it's a decent "full priced" game at 49.99...much better than a lot of other full priced games that I have had the misfortune to purchase, yet not exactly at a HL2 level either. Also don't listen to the consolekiddyspot review of the game or IGN who decided to change their score of 8.8 to a 7.0 when they saw gamespots 'review'.

Just beat the game its really good and i like the assortment of weapons it great , I will replay the game when i get a new PC.

Oblivion didn't hold my interest for very long so I doubt I'll be buying this.

Arr matey!

Although to be fair, this game is quite different than oblivion and not designed to be a roam do whatever the hell you want.

Just to say that I purchased the game and completed it just now and certainly don't regret it.

I'm very lucky in that I've encountered few of the bugs that other people have apparently been plagued by- probably the only advantage of actually getting it a day after release due to my sluggish preload, allowing me to play a product after several emergency patches.

Loading times aren't much longer than HL2's on my rig: anyone who is being driven to distraction by it should consider lowering their texture detail settings to medium or even low, as I'm told that's a major factor.

My only quibbles are the unnecessary cutscenes (recorded ingame footage instead of an actual ingame sequence- bizzare, out of place and much lower quality than anything my computer could've produced) and the ending...

VAGUE SPOILER

Multiple choices: they're not bad, as such, but brief and no closure. Think Deus Ex 2...

END VAGUE SPOILER
:imu:

Of course the whole thing is driven by taste- don't expect an RPG, expect an enjoyably brief FPS action game with a handful of welcome RPG elements. It beats Oblivion at combat, but you'll get far more playtime out of a meandering epic like Oblivion: it's a bit daft to even consider comparing them, really...

I don't understand.

It's like a bik movie of a scene rendered with engine graphics. Does the game perform better than the demo? I could run everything else in source at maximums on everything and the demo came to a crawl at certain sections with even medium graphics.

It is said that the models and the textures on certain parts are not so good, the details are not... detailed enough. Is it real?

Oblivion didn't hold my interest for very long so I doubt I'll be buying this.

Oblivion is only a stupid RPG game. Wandering around is always not amusing. DM is somthing defferent(not sure whether it is better).

p.s. Rumor says that the critical score of DM will be possible to raise again once bugs are fixed by the later pitch.

Am I the only person that enjoyed Oblivion?

My lil bro was playing it earlier today, so, no you're not.

I thought it was alot of fun, but it had a terrible ending.

Back again with some more info and warnings about MM:

First off all yesterday I got to the point where I got the big-reinstall-your-game crash. I tried all the fixes that where allready posted in all MM-related forums (This is really a buggy game, lots and lots of people are experiencing crashes all over the game, aswell in boxed-version as in steam-retail, feels like playing a beta from time to time...but they've promised a patch so will see...pfft promises, just deliver what you promise....didn't pay 50€ to have 2 days of frustration. If I want frustration I go to work, then they pay me 50€, anyway enoigh with the rambling)

So i got over the major-crash-poin in the game and advanced for about half an hour. Really enjoying the combat and physics in this game...Do mind this is not al HL2 when it comes to physics and level design but it gets me going...Untill the unevitable crash off course...I had another big one yesterday...and I even didn't have the courage to try again. I do hope it will still boot otherwise this will be the most crappy game ever released.

So beware...This could be a really good immersive game...but then they need a good patch and fast...

Hope to be able to write something good about this game because I really really want to like it...To bad it has been released waaaaay to soon.

If I would release a product like this in my current job (productdesign). I'll lose my job and any opportunity to work in the industry again...

Why can they get away with this??? UBI=EA

And about Oblivion=DMoMM ...its like comparing aplles with pears. They are both totally different games. DMoMM is a fps in the first place. Has no free roaming (or very little) and the RPG aspects are very similar. It's not about exploring it's about action. So they are totally different. I think I like DMoMM more (if I can play it :) ) More than the free-romaing gameplay of Oblivion....

I did little of the main quest - sneaking around, robbing and killing for money was too much of a distraction :)

A few reviews and user impressions have put me of Dark Messiah now. I was going to upgrade for games like this and Gothic 3, yet despite all the hype they seem to be getting a luke a warm reception. If NWN2 isn't anything special I see no reason at all to spend money on my pc.

This game has been getting seriously mixed reviews, PC Gamer gave it 88%, Game Informer 92.5%, IGN 88% and PC Zone 84%. Games scores obviously differ from magazine to magazine but they're usually in the same ball park. It's strange to find a game this devisive.

Those aren't that mixed if you ask me. If some were giving it 50-60% scores then it'd be varied. But mid-80's to low-90's isn't much of a difference.

Could anyone help? :(

My comp config is in the sig.
The game runs okay in DirectX8 mode, but I can't see the cutscenes. In DX9 mode, the performance is the same (with HDR on!), but... as you can see, it's a tiny bit unplayable :p

I remember an error like that, except that it was purple checkers. I think you're dealing with an effect that your video-card cannot process or a missing file.

One solution - No HDR.

Another one - Reinstall the game. It looks like the game knows which filter/post-processing effect it should use, but needs a texture or something of the likes.

I agree with the above...Maybe your videocard does not support DX9. Wich is to bad because they didn't optimized the game for DX8. Do you have pixelshader 3.0...Anyway if lowering your graphical settings to Medium. Disabling Hdr and reinstalling the game doesn't help. There's more help to be found here. Not from the devs or Ubi , but from the community. Hope it gets fixed because...

Dark Messiah is a pretty cool game once you get it running and get the feel of the combat and the environment. It's not as balanced as Valve-products but it has its moments and it grows on you. To bad I have to play it on medium-settings and lose 2 days to get it working...So if they patch it good. I would certainly recommend it and hope to replay it on high settings.

The Australian IGN team ranked DM 88. And the US team ranked DM 70 only.
