DEA who shot himself in the foot sues U.S. over publicity

Hahaha that video was hilarious.

"Okay kids now I'm the only one here that is trained enough to handle a gun!"
*boom*

"ummm..help?"

hahah yea funny how he handled pretty good though, didnt cry or anything

Wow horrible breach of operational security for the DEA to release videotape of an undercover agent.

Yeah, not like making public appearances at schools would blow his cover or anything...

it could have happened to anyone, not really funny

why would he bring a rifle/assualt weapon to a demonstration in front of a bunch of children? I know attitudes on guns are lax but man I wouldnt be surprised if they start selling guns in vending machines

It was a handgun not a rifle. He was doing it to tell them that they don't know how to handle it and says (ironically) "I am the only one in this room qualified to handle this" right before he shoots himself.

No it probably wouldn't blow his cover for operations to be honest. But google having 340,000 hits of "DEA Officer Shoots Himself" sure does.

watch the video he brings out what looks to me like an m-16 (I cant identify guns but it looks similiar to one) people start to leave the room as he brings it out

Wow, must be a rough neighborhood where a room full of kids see a gun going off and hitting someone and don't freak out.

wtf?

edit: Oh I watched another. The one I saw before stopped after he shot himself. Yeah considering he just ****ing shot himself people are probably edgy. I'd have had him leave damn but he did recover well kind of by making it a LESSON with real demonstration

My point was that an undercover agent would not be making public appearances at all. A cop in plain clothes does not an undercover agent make.

It's fine to bring a gun to show kids, but what kind of dumbass leaves it loaded, with the safety off?

an m-16? that's more than a little excessive ..police in canada dont bring guns to a school demostration for young kids ..one of the kids in that video looked to be about 6

When I first saw that I was doubtful that the person was working in official capacity - like he was just a local gun enthusiast or something, because I just couldn't believe he would (as mentioned above) leave the weapon loaded (more so than he accidentally shot his foot). I guess people make mistakes, but that was a bad one. How's that for your fifteen minutes of fame? Apparently not so good. lol

I dunno. I've never actually seen the video. I'm just saying that exposure to certain things is often good for kids- I mean, the more you know, the more power you have. Still, that dude's an idiot.

watch it ..he's actually pretty tough ..I wasnt sure he shot himself because he attempts to continue teaching for a few minutes after the gun goes off

I think it's more of an idiotic mistake rather than him being an idiot overall. His track record is really amazing to be honest if you look it up. But he violated a few HUGE rules in gun safety with what he did, and he faced the consequences with being banned from going around to do presentations anymore.

However, that's as far as it should've gone- the video leakage has ruined his career because being high profile and recognizable just out of no where as a police officer crosses him off the undercover list.

Yeah and CptStern I don't know what he was doing with so many guns there that is kind of weird even for me here in the most gun-friendly state in the union! If he brought the rifle itself to use for his presentation that'd be logical too but he was saying he had a bunch back there or whatever. Sounds like it was ill planned cause he's like "I don't got much time left!" like he's in a hurry.

Well he is an officer, his gun should always be loaded, but I don't know of any officers that would ever take it out of the holster unless they were storing it, or preparing to use it.

I don't think waving a loaded gun around in kindergarten class is protocol. I just don't see how it happened, those guns don't have a hair trigger or anything, you really have to try to fire it. I wonder was he thinking he unloaded it since none of the other guns were loaded.

Maybe God was up there and knew that a couple of those kids would be killed in gun accidents, and really wanted to teach those kids how dangerous they are. :halo:

Thats teh crazy.

Crazy shit does happen sometimes, remember the artillery shell on the teachers desk that he tried to smash a bug with?

What I don't understand... is he said it was unloaded... but it was in fact loaded. Could he REALLY have forgotten that?

Well, As former military personnel in my native country and war veteran, the very first rule you get after recruitment on your first BT detail, with a rifle whit no firing-ping locked and no magazine, is to never point that rifle at any direction, where subjects may or may not be, including yourself.
This law was so severely enforced, if you ever get caught, accidentally pointing that rifle (Never mind being an idiot), any direction where some one may or may not be standing, other than the ground away from your feet or up away from your head, was punishable by a night in the brown-pool or the midnight-swim followed by early morning stand and nothing but your boxers and of coarse, no breakfast.
You will be court marshaled, if you intentionally whether goofing or otherwise point that rifle at anyone other than an engaged enemy or in the presents of imminent danger to you and or for saving lives, where rules of engagement do apply.

You will never be careless with your rifle, and your rifle will not be careless with you.

Never assume the chamber is empty, cock it open and you will be surprised.

Take out the magazine, cock it once for you, cock it again for your life.

I haven't handled a gun for the last 10 years, but I still remember the rules like yesterday "Your rifle rules" as they they were called back then.

What our beloved Mr. Paige did do was violating every rule he had to learn before he was given a gun.
The worst thing though was that, instead of saying I'm a professional and I still made a mistake by shooting my own foot in front of the class, so please call me a doctor I'm bleeding, he wanted to go on and still wanted to handle the more powerful rifle for those freaked-out poor kids. His assistance refused to hand him the second gun, even though he was acting cool about it, they knew he was in lots of pain and so burning up that he didn't know what he was doing anymore, so they refused to hand him the rifle, they thought, this time he might shoot himself under the chin.

I don't know if I'd be too willing to take safety hints from someone that just shot themself.

I also remember that glocks have 3 internal safeties... and whatever happened to the whole:
1. Always Keep the Muzzle Pointed in a Safe Direction
2. Firearms Should Be Unloaded When Not Actually in Use
3. Don't Rely on Your Gun's "Safety"

???

"Always assume a weapon is loaded" etc??

And I'm not sure if its the same over in the states, but in Australia, law enforcement (etc) are not allowed to draw a loaded weapon unless they intend to use lethal force.

The guy seems like a bit of a 'tard, and to be completely honest, it doesn't make the pro-guns lobby look too good.
SURE, he's only one person, an incompetent person, shouldn't have done it etc... but there's a certain PR impact in seeing a person who's profession involves using guns shoot themselves in the foot. A government representative of all things.

...hmmm...

This guy's an idiot. I have to applaud him for being able to stand their for a bit after taking that to his foot, but, still...

The Gunny rocks!

EDIT: That is the gunny, right?

If he had followed proper handgun drill it wouldn't have been possible for him to do that.

Respect to him for taking a .40 s&w in the foot.

Hey that's my favorite Drill Sargent in Full Medal Jacket.
He is got a show now called Mail Call on History Chanel.

DID I SAY YOU COULD GO TO THE BATHROOM? WELL DID I, MAGGOT?

Ok, so maybe he's not such a dumbass- it's just a stupid mistake...
still that was pretty crazy.

Who said that? Who the **** said that? Who's the slimy little communist shit-twinkle-toed cocksucker down here who just signed his own death warrant? Was it you, you scroungy little ****, huh?

Sir No S-

Bullshit! I bet it was you, you look like a ****ing worm!

I have the entire opening speech memorized.

Mail Call would be 99x better if he talked like he did on Full Metal Jacket.

But it would be awesome...damn censorship...

I think that *EDITED BY ENNUI*

That guy is just lucky he didn't injure or kill one of the kids. What a moron, taking a loaded gun into a classroom. What was he going to do- Have a live round firing demonstraion in there? What an idiot. The parents should be suing him for endangering their kids, or at least damaging their hearing.
