Dead Space 2 Debut Trailer

Not to mention there's replay value in starting a new round and sticking with different weapons.

Ouch. I just marathonned (WORD?) it. Feel a little crap right now :dozey:

Thought the game was pretty good. Much better than the first one. Definitely don't feel an urge to replay it immediately though. That IGN guy is full of crap.

With a game like this in an environment that doesn't really change a whole lot I prefer it if the game isn't too long, long enough to be satisfying but not so long as to bore me or put me off finishing it.

That's just me.

I thought the environment changed quite a bit in DS2, I was really impressed with that aspect. It was a lot like BioShock in that regard, with every chapter having a really distinct theme and feel.

From what I've played of it so far (not much) it seems like there's nothing really "new" in this game, which is a bit disappointing. Having a telekinetic ability is just a gravity gun remake and starting out with a flashlight and no gun felt very Doom 3. Even the first gun you get is exactly the same as in the previous game. It's just the same scripted sequences, seeing people that you don't care about die.

I certainly enjoyed the first game (though that started to drag towards the end too), but I was hoping for more out of the sequel than this. Does it get better over time?

I just found out EA have hired a company to manufacture 1:1 high-quality replicas of both the DS1 and DS2 plasma cutters, MSRP is 250 USD for one, apparently.

I still haven't picked up the game, one of my ears have been perforated and I can barely hear on it, and I don't want to play Dead Space with mono-hearing, that'd suck :p

Hopefully the perforation will heal quickly though.

In the meantime, I will be reading through the the comic series, the DS:E comic and watch the newest movie.

I for one am glad they have kept things the same. There's too many sequels lately changing things around in established series and just making things worse. Does it get better over time? I certainly enjoyed the later chapters more than the first but that doesn't mean you will. If you were looking for re-invention in Dead Space 2 you came to the wrong place, though the new Zero G mechanics are an improvement.

I do love the new zero-g mechanics, but I dislike only being able to stand on the floor during these sections. Kinda miss the ability to attach to ceilings and walls.

It seems like the multiplayer would be more fun with friends but barely any of my friends have even heard of the game and the ones that have aren't interested :(

Add me on XBL; I'll have the game tomorrow evening and I'll gladly do MP with you, don't want to do story right now so, due to my aforementioned ear problem.

My GT is Gargantou.

I'm terribly interested in these games, but I understand that they play with a third-person point of view. How much of a deal breaker is that? I'm looking at this on YouTube to try to get a feeling for how it plays, and I can't. So far, DS2 looks like what I think Doom 4 would be (dark & creepy, monsters jumping at you out of closets, duct tape mod included, ammo packs spawn from the dead monsters, etc.) Does it play like a 3rd person shooter, or like a first person shooter where the "weapon" is your entire body?

It's more like the latter. There's no crappy cover system with whack-a-mole gameplay or any of that stuff that goes with third person shooters. When you have your weapon drawn it's pretty much an FPS with the back of your head and shoulder added to your arm and weapon.

Ok I just played and got somewhere into ch3. Is this game going to be that ****ing short?

Thanks 'vac. I'm gonna give it a spin. There's an expansion called "Extraction" that sounds like a hoot too, no?

It's a port of a Wii rail shooter. Awesome game. Too heavy on the not shooting though in parts.

Took me over 12 hours. Earlier chapters are pretty short. Around the 6 mark they get long.

Thanks for answering. Just got to ch6 actually, 2-3 hrs of gameplay so far...weird pacing to say the least. I think they should've just considered these first parts maybe just 3 chapters at most. Also, the PC controls are ****ing retarded for the ch5 cutscene battle, you have to press the "punch" key to shoot after aiming. I had to do that ****ing scene 10 times before I went to look up why my gun wouldn't ****ing fire.

I re-watched a playthrough of it earlier and noticed a canonical inconsistency.

In Dead Space 1, Kendra can move around in the outside of the colony without any breathing apparatus, yet in Dead Space: Extraction, the dialogue indicates that the air outside isn't breathable for humans.

On what difficulty? I just finished the game on normal and that took me 8 and a half hours exactly.
Normal. Gonna do hard or expert or impossible later. F*ck playing with a ps3 controller, although I am a god at it.

I'll get to this one later when I've got my head out of my ass. Holy dick I'm tired.

So I saw in some trailer a creepy scene of some woman holding a bloated ass alien baby or something?

Didnt read anything in the thread because im scared of spoilers, but i gotta say that they definitly did NOT cut back on the horror. I have noticed that i become desensitized if i play longer than 30 minutes, so i chose to only play 30 minutes each day which makes it way scarier. As soon as i navigate through the menu i get chills, and once im ingame im jumping in my chair and screaming every now and then.

the "horror" just doesn't do it for me in this game.

it was 100% "Come at me, bros" and not as scary as Mesh would lead you to believe. by the latter half of the game, it was actually starting to get on my nerves. MONSTER APPEARS. LOUD ABRASIVE SOUNDS!!! GUGUGUGUGUGUH!

This about sums up how scary I found it.

I saw like 3 or 4 alarm clocks throughout the game but never one that went off. Any idea where it is?

From what I remember it was in a room in one of the Titan Heights apartment areas. Scared the living shit out of me.

Last night I decided to start hardcore mode. I got to the first boss fight and died. The game started over. I turned off my xbox and went to bed, cursing under my breath.

Anyone know a good weapon or strategy for taking down advanced pukers? They seem to have limbs of steel.

I take back some of what I said earlier, I am definitely enjoying this at least as much as the first one. It's definitely not scary at all, but is a (sometimes) a blast. As has been established already, the pacing is a bit odd. The tram sequence was my favourite part so far.

Stomping corpses to get loot makes me feel uncomfortable as shit.

Really? I don't know about anyone else, but I took some extreme joy in stomping the shit out of corpses while Isaac strung together curse words.
