The press has been so free, that it's now owned by monopolys with their own agendas.

I don't feel this place is very democratic.
I suspect the fact that newspapers are regularly and successfully sued for the most ridiculously tentative statements may have something to do with it.

Newspaper: "one study seemed to claim that mild amnesia may be a side-effect of the new drug."
Drug company sues newspaper and wins. :|

This thread has convinced me that the top 32 countries in that site are now in states of anarchy. :p

But there is no such thing as freedom, just only certain things you can/allowed do. Everything is bound by something...whether it be in science, religion, politics, or everyday life. We (americans) are allowed to do some things that other countries don't allow...that is all. But true freedom is being bound by nothing.

True freedom can only come when or animalistic natures are finally gone....which will not happen for a very VERY long time.

Anyways that's more of a philosophical statement then a political one, so meh.

I guess freedom is kinda like a form, this platonic concept where we know we can never really achieve it in perfection but it is always something we can aim for. Perhaps like an asymtote to the mathematically inclined?

An analogy is measurements, we say something is 10.5cm, while we accept that we will never actually know its true length. That is the forms.

Freedom can also be quite subjective ... and this guide will be euro/western -centric. But i think a key tenet would be the right to open debate, perhaps the best way to get closer to the truth of a matter. Again truth could be considered a form. And debate in one form of another seems compatible with most civilisations and peoples of the world.
