Deus Ex Human Revolution

Check out Warped's post in the film rate and discuss thread for another.

Prove it other wise.

No developer in the history of the universe would ever be stupid enough to send an Alpha version of their game to journalists. In the Alpha version of any game it is feature-incomplete, unstable, unpolished, has stand-in art assets, and to be frank, nothing at all like how the final product will look or function.

I think people just like to say "Alpha" when something comes out before it's supposed to. Or maybe because Minecraft was in "Alpha" for so long and was a fully functional game. I've played enough Alpha games to know that you don't want to play Alpha games... because they're not meant to be played... they're meant to be tested.

Already came across a huge spoiler, goddammit.

Saw some straight up gameplay video, I really don't know why the execs decide to publish lame ass, highly edited trailers and shit when their game looks so much better on its own. I'm going to preorder the CE a couple weeks before release. August something right?

I ask the same question to the universe everyday... trailers probably halt sales more than they help.

Yeah - "Alpha" is the new "Beta".

What a twist!

Saw some PC gameplay on Youtube, and Krynn is absolutely right. The game itself looks like it might actually be great, but the trailers had me thinking it would be no better than Invisible War.

If you objectively watch any trailer for some of most appreciated games... you can't really pick one out amongst the crowd. Trailers don't even work well to convey the positive aspects of a movie and that's only two hours... how could the same system work for a 10-40 hour experience? I don't know why they even bother anymore outside of just convenience. Developers and publishers should just work purely with things like editorial previews, game footage, and those cool pre-story deals like they did with Dragon Age. That covers the way the game plays, looks, and how well the story could potentially play out. I guess if they release some songs before hand (i.e. Portal 2) that would cover sound as well. No more dumb trailers showing cutscenes and aspects of gameplay that may not exist.

Someone preordered this for me for my birthday so I'm actually somewhat excited about it now.

Don't screw it up too badly Eidos!

I can't wait to play this, even if the game turns out to be only decent.

I crave more cyberpunk!

As excited I am for this game; mannn, it is really hard to ignore those horrible, horrible NPC's models and animations.

This game has by far the most interesting premise of any game I want to play this year. Very excited for August.

One of the few games I've really been excited for in 2011

I think I'm getting this. Do you think I should play Deus Ex before it? I'm sure that if HR is good I'll play it afterwards, but will I miss anything if I haven't played the other DE games?

The story and gameplay seem good, but damn do the graphics suck. This seems to be a tradition for this series.

is there any gameplay videos? not leaked version videos?

Probably nothing major. HR is a prequel, so at most there will be things hinted at that we see in Deus Ex.

Why would you not play Deus Ex?

You'll miss references to Deus Ex or maybe even Invisible War, but it's a prequel so I suppose you can play it. Still it would be very nice if you did play DX, it's such a great game.

Because it's horribly overrated.

Blasphemer! You must pay with your blood!

*Begins foaming around the mouth and spouting incoherent profanities at computer monitor*

On a more serious note, what exactly is it that you think is so overrated about it if one compares it to other similar titles?

I clearly remember the first time I played Deus Ex and thinking that this isn't nearly as good as System Shock 2 and that the combat is pretty crappy.

Play both Deus Ex Games before this one. There is going to be references in HR.

Indeed, what I was thinking.

Deus Ex just never grabbed me. On paper, it sounded ideal. However, when I played the Liberty Island demo, I was just left with an overwhelming feeling of "meh"
Undeterred, I tried the full game. Same thing. It just didn't work for me.

Well, Deus Ex Collection is 4,90€ on Steam during the sale so might as well pick it up. Thanks for the tips.

Fair enough! There are quite a few games that the majority of other people I've talked to have liked which I didn't get into at all!

To each his own, and all that.

System Shock is far superior tbh, but it lacks roleplaying elements, and critical choices through the game.

Steam Store isn't working for me. : / I just saw that Deus Ex games are on daily deals. Perfect timing.

Sounds like me trying to get into System Shock 2.

The combat IS shit. That's not why people enjoy the game so much.

I dont recall the combat being all that great in SS2 either. Not saying that it isnt better than Deus Ex but still
