Dissapointed with Deus Ex2?

this game made in 1999 owns Deus Ex2 hands down....albeit this game is old it's really worth downloading.

pros:

-the download isn't terrible big.

-no wait lines.

-fullgame, and a fair amount of play time.

-Amazing gameplay. quite advanced but really easy to learn.

-amazing atmosphere. although it's a old game and the dated graphics kills it a bit nowadays, the atmosphere is still amazing.

-amazing sound. the ambient sound...the voice acting everything is great! and really sets the atmosphere.

-easy interface. very easy and quick to learn interface.

-amazing story.(though the cut scenes has been ripped for this abandone-ware release.)

-interesting character development.

-hacking(in a fun way), psi powers, weapons with different ammunitions, researching, bio-modules. etc.

-whoops almost forgot to mention...Multiplayer...haven't tried it yet though, but from what I've heard it should be blast coop.

cons:

it's an old game, and as such the graphics aren't the best around. but personally I didn't really find that it was a problem.(also you shouldn't experience stuttering, albeit it's possible that it might not work with some newer graphics cards...works with my radeon9700pro though so that's pure speculation)

there's some slight inbalances with some of the weapons, and the requirements you have to meet to use some of them.

I couldn't get my mouse wheel working,nor more than 3 mouse buttons.

the saving system can get a little confusing at times. since it doesn't allow custom titles(preset date, time and level) and it doesn't have a preview screenie....but it's no big deal.

I was gonna make a topic about this but seeing as it's been mentioned.....

I don't find them scary in the day, but i usually fall asleep from 7pm-10 ish then i check the forums. Those scary avatars give me the creeps and force me to (yes that's right, they force me) into checking over my shoulders constanly. My drowsy state makes me imagine that things are there, so i go and cry to my mum ;(

Yeah, it came out. I uninstalled it after playing for 2 minutes (hehe.. didn't have a good game vibe, just felt clunky, plus the player models were all.. staticy for me.. no idea why), then installed System Shock 2 and played that for.. about an hour, lotta fun

I couldn't get SS2 to work last time I tried it. I'll try it again though. Also, there's that Rebirth thing (High Definiton models) and a high-res texture pack you can get for it.

i really liked this game, i still have the original cd, cd case and manual . i liked dx1 better though, but ss2 was one of the scariest games i've ever played.

it says it can't determin install directory...I've changed the install.cfg to make the new models work(thanks for heads up on that btw) that might have something to do with...but I don't know...

Did you get it from The Underdogs? If so, I think the patch is already installed.

"This patch implements cooperative multiplayer for System Shock 2. Up to four players are supported over internet or LAN. In addition, several bug-fixes and additional features are implemented including the ability for the user to modify weapon degradation and monster re-spawning rates. This patch is only intended for the original release of System Shock 2. If you have purchased a re- released "budget" edition, you should not need this patch." (Irrational Games website)

So if you've got a Multiplayer tab on you main menu, you're probably good to go.

I haven't yet been able to get the models and the higher res textures to work. But the game on its own ran fine, which surprised me as the demo I had didn't get past the training, so I wasn't expecting this to work, but it did. Those models and textures messed things up though when I tried to use them

There's a free d/l at that first link, but I don't know if it's legal or not. I wouldn't worry about it now though, the developers are probably making zero cash off this title now because the only place I've ever seen it for sale is E-bay.

I've got the multiplayer tap, but no weapons degradation or monster spawn options....

Just extract the zip file..

it's got all the install folder structure stuff, so after you extract all you have to do is run sshock2.exe

BTW, Fenric, I had no problems with the high poly models.. other than the wrench not showing up

this game isn't as scary now it runs really smoothly, I guess it was scarier on a P200 cause it was impossible to do anything in time

A while ago it kept screwing up on me, but I tweaked some audio settings and for some reason it worked. Don't know why.

The audio in the game is awesome. Best use of EAX I've ever heard.. sounded exactly as though a hybrid was behind me IRL when I was on the phone

Ya Deus Ex is a huge dissapointment...
The only thing i liked about it though was the main menu music, unfortunatly the frame rate of the spinig Deus Ex symbol mad the music freeze every few seconds... :/

Does anyone know where i can download The Deus Ex : IW Theme (main menu) music?? or at least how to rip it from the demo?
