Irish terrorism is non existant today and has been since c1998 - the old terror groups have simply reverted to drug dealing and racketeering. And even during 'the troubles' over 30 years a mere 3000 died. 3000 too many obviously but it was a very low intensity conflict and isolated to Northern Ireland only: the IRA itself rarely numbered more than a few hundred active terrorists at any one time. Scum the lot of them, and the North rewards them by voting them the largest nationalist political party. People are morons. But that's another story...

I mean, I don't agree with the killing of civilians which it would seem the IRA Army council didn't aim for, but they didn't really take enough caution to prevent it either. At the same time though I can see why people would sign up. Imagine growing up in Derry 30years ago where you didn't have the right to vote, police routinely came round and terrorized your family and your neighbors just for being catholic. Imagine having you streets patrolled by an army that had just shot dead 11 unarmed men during a march for the right to vote. It's all to easy to condemn the IRA so completely. At the same time, I don't think it's all that easy to explain why it was wrong for the IRA to use violence to try and force England out of Ireland forever. I could go all day listing some of the atrocities and murders British forces have committed just in the last 40 years. I'm sure you're aware of most of them.

The fact is, most member of the IRA did not kill civilians they targeted those who supported the state which co-operated with Loyalist terror mobs and did everything they could to make life a living hell for the catholic minority.

You're calling people scum, who are people who share the same aims of those who less than 100years ago fought and died for your right to be be free.
