I highly doubt it will 'suck', they started HL from scratch because it wasn't very good so they have experience with how to avoid making a bad game. If HL2 at any point was deemed to be crap, I would expect they would do the same as what they did with HL.

I dunno if they used the same process to create HL2 (the cabal thingy :S) but if they did then I doubt we will be playing a shit game after installation.

Well Deus ex 2 was released after 4 years and it did suck and then Ion storm was one helluva developer, so there is a 50% chance of every game to suck. This applies to halo 2, doom 3 and stalker too as much as it does to HL2.

Halo for the pc sucked very much in comparison to the xbox version, even though halo's story is very good for a FPS. So he's probably talking about it as a bad port.

I'm talking about player made mods, not official ones released by VALVe. With mods it can make the game expand A LOT. Especially with the ability to make your own mods and content.

People won't mod HL2 if it sucks.

It is really hard to say what HL2 will do. They don't have much of a track record besides Half-Life. There is a tendency to believe that HL2 will be good because Half-Life was so good. But if you look at other game developers, most of them go through sophmore slumps. Let's hope Valve breaks that trend.

On the other hand, if you look at Doom 3, it's all but certain that it will receive a 9.0/9.2 at gamespot because that is what every other ID games has gotten. They have released enough games to predict what Doom 3 will score.

Now that I think about it, it would be much safer to be a Doom 3 fanboy than to be a Half-Life 2 fanboy. :|

Still that doesn't make the ps2 version of half-life bad. My friend has it and it was rather fun with slightly upped graphics than the pc version (obviously because it was released later). Anyway, the mod community is mainly for the longetivity - so a game with SP only can be good on a console.

I can honestly say the game wont suck solely based on the videos, I mean if the game is ONLY as good as what the videos show and nothing more it will still be an awesome game, but think of how much more there is to see and do.

Max payne 2 came out just 2 years later on the same engine and it was awesomer - so imagine HL2 with a totally new engine after 6 years and a new gameplay mechanic (physics).

I am not worried about HL2 sucking, it is too unlikely for words because of the quality of the team working on it and the effort that has been placed into this thing.
