Doctor Who: Season 4

Oh I agree! Russell T Davies has done an amazing job at reintroducing Classic Series elements to the New Series audience. Getting rid of the Time Lords for a start was one of the best decisions ever. It was the closest he could get to a clean slate without completely remaking the series from scratch. And the Time War allowing any timeline discrepancies to be explained away by one cover all statement is a stroke of genius!

"How does the novelization of Human Nature co-exist in canon with the 2007 episode?"
"The Time War did it! Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey!"

he's managed to recreate many old foes and has done a great job
Season 1-Daleks
Season 2-Cybermen
Season 3-The Master
Season 4-Sontarans And possibly...

Don't forget the Autons and the Macra!

Also, quote from the Newsround website:

Who they'll be fighting is still a mystery, but the person who might be the main villain was shown partly hidden in shadow.

The villain had the bottom half of a Dalek, while its top half looked like it could be human.

Who on Skaro could that be? ;)

That was amazingly silly.....but awesome all the same :D

I'm like the biggest Doctor Who fan in the world. I can't wait for this to return. :E

Series 3 was epic the whole way through btw. Mind you, I say that about most episodes. Not too keen on Catherine Tate from The Runaway Bride coming back though. D: More looking forward to Billie Piper and Freema Agyeman. Phwoar.

There's gonna be competition between me and you, Reg, since I always like to say I'm one of the biggest Doctor Who fans in the world!!! (Although, granted, i've not actually seen any of the old episodes and I bet you have. Though saying that there's and old one on in a coupl of minutes on BBC4. Gonna try and watch it.)
Saw the first episode of the new series and thought it was actually prety good. Loved the surprise at the end!. Not going to say what it was for the people who've not seen it, obviously! That would be stupid!!! :cheese:

Ok episode. I liked the little game at the start where The Doctor and Tate keep just missing each other. The bit where they're signaling at eachother through the window was very well done; you can actually tell what they're saying, except for Tate's bit at the end. What's Tate's character called again? Dona was it?

'Suprise' ending was not only crap but
I had guessed that it was Rose the second I saw the blonde hair and the way we were obviously not being shown her face intentionally.

Crap, nah, I`m on the other boat, and
you can`t seriously say you expected her to appear in the first episode.

No, I didn't expect her to appear in the first episode but the moment I saw Tate talking to a girl with blonde hair that had every single one of her facial features hidden from the camera I thought "She'll turn around and it'll be Rose."

I liked the just missing each other thing. It was so damn cheesy :cheese:

Well, then, it`s not like you could tell she would be in in when the show started, but about 5 seconds before it happened, so you know, they didn`t do a bad job of keeping it secret.

I have to agree with riomhaire on

rose appearing

Generally it was an ok episode.

Pretty good episode. Neither Donna nor the Adipose were no where near as bad as they could have been. Definitely had something missing though. The entire window exchange and missing each other was very well done also.

Anyone think of CE3K at the end? The spaceship I mean, not the twist. Which was awesome. My jaw was on the floor!

It was quite good, though it was a little odd how they just walk into the middle of the volcano. Also, why were there fires in the volcano? What is there to catch fire?

Nice to see the Ood will be back next week. I like the Ood.

Gas release within pockets in the volcano could easily catch fire, surely?

This is the second week in a row we've had planets that have gone missing or burned. Torchwood's "Adrift" also had a planet burning. I reckon we could be seeing an arc there. Also the second mention in as many episodes of the Shadow Proclamation. And the second time Egypt has been mentioned this series which, considering Russell T Davies has mentioned Egypt a fair few times in his production notes perhaps points towards more arc-y goodness?

And what is going to be on Donna's back? :x

I'm looking forward to the Ood, I loved those guys, they reminded me of Vortigaunts.

Last night was the first time I've seen the new Doctor Who (actually, I saw the Christmas special). The phrase 'WTF is this s**t, springs to mind :p The acting is appalling (I hope for the sake of common decency, Catherine Tate's character is executed. Or someone just execute Catherine Tate herself), the script condescending (Fine, it's vaguely amusing using a water-pistol as a serious weapon - don't follow this up by saying 'OMG! CAN'T BEREEVE U USED A WATRE PISTOL AS SRS WEPON!') and the whole thing cheesier than a Brevil Factory in Cheddar Gorge.

Props to the CGI Magma Legionary though. Sure, it was very clear that they didn't want to show it much at all, and what little you saw was often reused, but it was a pretty sweet design.

It was a pretty good episode better than the first by a mile anyway.

They really need to push the serious part of Doctor Who now rather than the toungue-in-cheek comedic part. Pretty much every episode up until Rose's departure was pure gold, then it was a bumpy ride during Martha's series (excluding the excellent Master episodes), and even though I enjoyed the Catherine Tate Show, I thought so far she has either been quite a disappointment to the series. Let's hope the return of a good villain (the Ood) will spark the beginning of a better Doctor Who series.

I thought it was cheesy at first when I first saw "Rose" back in 2005. But now I realise that it's not... or I'm desensitized to it. That's what Doctor Who has always been and hopefully always will be. And for every relatively light-hearted one like last night, there is a hugely heavy-going one like "Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood", as double episode with almost no comedy at all and an absolutely heart-breaking conclusion.

I partially agree with your comments on Donna/Tate. She is a lot worse than Martha, Rose or Astrid who came previously. But she isn't as bad as she is on her own show. And that is good enough for me. The other contributing factors of the series more than make up for her presence. Besides, we get Dervla Kirwan at Christmas, the woman who does the Marks & Spencers' "This isn't just food, it's food made to look more appetizing than it is" adverts. So that should be fun! :E

An invisible spider.

I knew this already but I was trying to string along members of this forum in a nice little sense of intrigue. How did you know?

You what? Smith and Jones? Masterpiece. The Shakespeare Code? As good as could be expected. Gridlock? Epic! Dalek 2-parter? Underrated brilliance. The Lazarus Experiment and 42? A little of the typical mid-series slowdown but fun run-arounds. Human Nature 2-parter? Among the best of Who EVER. Blink? Moffat at his best. And still gives me nightmares. Then the Master triple-parter? Genius.

Series 3 was the most consistent of New Who so far. Having said that I reckon this new series will surpass it.

Of course it's kitsch. If it was remotely serious you couldn't have it on before the watershed.

I missed this episode - anyone know where I can find it online, or if it's repeated at any point?

It's available on BBC iPlayer for 14 days. (Perhaps 7. Some shows are on for 7, some 14. Confusion!)

Being one of the BBC's biggest shows, it's also repeated near every day until next Saturday on BBC3. For future reference it's Sunday at 8 and then throughout the week at any time between 10 and 1.

Damn,Now that I think about it

All talking in the same way, spending most of their time as slaves, curtious, thinking as one, electricity-like attack.

Woah, almost as if they took the Vort's as reference.

What would really make my day woudl be a HL/Dr Who crossover, featuring the Headcrab invasion, since they are pretty perfect for the series. But ahh, it's just a dream.

Well, the first episode could've been worse, but it was still pretty awful. The Russel T Davies is really awful at script writing.

The little fat guys were cute however...I cannot believe I just said that.

And I have crapped out better episodes than the volcano one.

Seriously, if something else midly decent is on next week I will definatly watch it instead of doctor who. Ever since the first series (of the new ones) it has been steadily going downhill.

Wait, what?! That's what they're actually going to have? I was joking. I just remember seeing an old episode where a giant evil spider queen that wanted to use the Doctor's special crystal (he had used it a few times to undo brainwashings/hypnosis or to hypnotise people himself) to finish her device that would increase her brain power exponentially. One of the things she used was little invisible baby spiders that controlled people by latching onto their backs (it also let them shoot lighting from their fingers for some reason). I was just referencing the episode in the hope that another member might get it.

I know exactly what you mean, that's hwy I gave up on torchwood. Although I give props to Russell T Davies for bringing back doctor who most of his episodes are total *****

I still think the third series was the best. Not a single bad episode IMO and I think Martha has been the best companion because she understood the science of everything a hell of a lot better than Rose (for obvious reasons). i did love the Doctor-Rose relationship, though!

The Menoptra I think.

Well, set reports say she had some animatronic looking spider-thing on her back and most people reckon it's the return of the Menoptra.

I'm unconvinced though. :p

Nice episode! Still can`t quite believe they sneaked the fate of the boss into a 6.20 timeslot :)

Agreed totally. Like I said before, the third series was without a doubt the best. Blink really scared the shit out of me!!!

I 've not seen the latest episode yet as I was watching some old episodes. I'm currantly having a 'Doctor Who marathon' where I try to watch the episodes in consistent order without breaking the order of the episodes. I'm now up to Bad Wolf. I watched the episodes from Dalek to Boom Town yesterday. I once watched all the way from Parting of the Ways right to the end of The Satan Pit (I wasn't well one day so I just watched Who all day).
This probably shows either how big a Who fan I am OR how sad I am!!! :E

@ stemot: I saw it coming and I really thought they wouldn't show it. Then they did and it was absolutely horrendous! Even worse than Doctor Constantine's transformation into a gas mask zombie in The Empty Child. Those tentacles falling out of his mouth are going to haunt my dreams today.

@Iron Kat: I once watched the whole of Series 3 in one day. Guess I'm a bigger Who fan than you. :p Having said that, I was utterly Who'd out by the end.
