For a first release, the Dystopia demo was extremely polished- which makes this recent update from the mod team quite a surprise. They’ve taken it upon themselves to squash any bugs (that’s game bugs, not spider grenades) under a giant nano-enhanced boot. Here’s the full change log:

-Fixed several crash bugs in server and in client[br]
-Bumping into a stationary team mate will push them a bit (this is to prevent people blocking spawn doors as heavies)[br]
-Added voicecomms spam protection[br]
-Added support for mp_autoteambalance (on by default)[br]
-Added dys_voicecomm_globals_silent convar, so you can disable the audio on global voice comms (eg. "I don't think so sister!")[br]
-Added dys_iff convar, to disable IFF drawing (eg. models only)[br]
-Added server name to HTML/XML stats output[br]
-Fixed names with a "." being shortened in stats[br]
-Fixed spawn timer increase if spawn is captured[br]
-Fixed stealth appearing white on older video cards[br]
-Fixed stealth vmt exploit[br]
-Lowered Spider Grenade timer from 7 to 4 seconds

On second thoughts, looking at that last change, it seems as if they might have accidentally harmed some spiders after all… poor things. [br]

I'm actually pretty miffed that they nerfed those poor little spider grenades... :(

-Added dys_voicecomm_globals_silent convar, so you can disable the audio on global voice comms (eg. "I don't think so sister!")

I don't think so, sister!

Nice to see they aren't resting on their laurels after the success of the demo.

I wonder where the line between demo and real game will occur. How large can they expand the demo without making the main game seem like a minor update?

I doubt they'll actually expand the demo, I'm more concerned about the line between public beta and demo, they seemed pretty against a public beta and more into a polished demo, but if they have to keep patching it, it pretty much turns into a public beta.

Well, the main game is definately going to be free- so I don't think it actually matters that much. They'll probably just release one or two new maps for the demo, then just knuckle down on making the full game.

and know we know why its so hard to get news posted....

I blame VALVe for making such great games.

On the Dystopia forums, they claimed they were putting the finishing touches to a new map for the demo and a few tweaks that should be released in the new future. It'd be nice to think these are the tweaks which would mean a new map is coming soon :E

I'll quote myself on this matter...
Even full versions of games, developed by payed professionals, that have been out for years still get patches on a regular basis.
It's nothing to worry about.
Bugs in PC games are a never-ending occurance.

It's ammount of polish, even before the patch, is very well worthy of a title higher than Beta.

Yeah, let's hope they don't have to keep releasing patches and updates for the demo though, even a very polished demo can turn into basically a public beta with a different name after adding suggestions by players, fixing bugs, etc.

There's that Insect Infestation news you've posted that they haven't yet. (Hint hint ;))

Saw that a while ago, but It's way too old to post. Pfft... you wouldn't want us posting OLD news now, would you ;)

See they should just make me a Staff member to post news...
;)

Old? They just posted it yesterday...

They posted it on the 16th, it's now the 18th... BUT THAT'S NOT IMPORTANT!!! We're supposed to be discussing Dystopia, and the tragic nerfing of the spider grenades! Back on topic, everyone!

Poor Teddy has been weakened. :(

Teddy is still godly.

Hip hip for great updates! I wonder if Dystopia will follow suit like Natural-Selection is planned to. My Games. I hope with My Games comes Updating through Steam.

Wow this mod team is going hardcore with perfecting their work. Very cool stuff.

good thing they changed the stealth appearing white, it was the only thing keeping me from playing (I have a DX7 card) because it felt like I was cheating =/

We're still running a closed beta. We'll continue to use our bunch of excellent testers to hammer any new features / maps / tweaks before they're pushed out to the public.

That's the difference between a public beta and our demo release.

since the update i keep getting ingame total crashes every few minutes

Ahh so these bugs were found by the testers, not the public. Yeah, difference, apologies.

What are your views on thermal vision - is it right that you can't see which team anybody is on? Really annoys me when your in the middle of an enclosed space trying to squat a stealther and your teammates are around you - so you fire and can't be sure if you're getting the right bloke.

cant wait to try out the vehicles in the final version, they mentioned bikes and cars.

That's the point- if thermal vision didn't have a disantvantage, stealthers would never be able to get anywhere, because everyone would just be using thermal all the time.

Disadvantages - it requires energy
- you can get a countermeasure to it (I think :S)

Almost everything requires energy though right? Just try to get really good at distinguishing the shape differences between the two teams with thermal on, although you can't do that at the moment for heavies.

When I'm a heavy, I get the energy boost too, which means I can use it for about 2-3 mins at a time. As for countermeasures... yes, light punks get scrambler grenades with cancel the effect, although most people forget to use them :p

An EMP grenade.

I love this mod, but am totally bored with the Vaccine map now. I have been playing for hours and now it's just, well, the same. Nothing against the mod, I would just love to see some new maps, even one would be fantastic! :)

Coming in the next update.

GUILLOTINE DOORS

Blatantly obvious bug right there, needs fixin'.

Umm the boltgun is really perplexing me right about now. Ill hit a heavy between 3-4 times to kill it, and the little electrical pulses dont seem to do anything. Maybe as a secondary fire charge the bolt so it zaps people twice? The force discharge isnt really worth it, i just walk past the bolt far enough away.

maps?

So any word on another map? This one is fun, and takes a while to get the hang of, but it sure would be nice to get a fatty map with the next update!
