i tried to download this game 5 times using the only mirror that worked, and each time it timed out at about 180mb, (about half way through the download)
so i tried using a bit torrent, and i just have yet another corr
upted file, it installs and then crashes when i try and join a server,
i cant be bothered trying to download this game anymore, one day is more than enough to get 50 downloadable games but having this much hastle with just one mod is stupid.
thank god red orchestra is out soon, it will make valid the reason i didnt get dod source, at last a proper ww steam mod with vehicles, the one reason dod:source will be old hat is that it didnt include vehicles, it is the same game as dod but with ragdoll physics... WOW!..... really worth spending money on.... i think not...
i did post ideas for dod source when it was in the making, had those ideas been taken on board dod_s would be better than red orchestra, unfortunatly the direct porting ( the maps are the same size, the sound is unrealistic, and there are no vehicles ) makes it just a ragdoll version of dod.
and i cant blame the Empires crash on hardware since i have a 7800gtx with appropriate hardware to supprt it (i get 120fps in cs:s all settings high vsynch on)
basically what im trying to say is dod source should be better than red orchestra (it wouldnt even be difficult) and had it been more succesful it would have made tons more money.... duh!
i hope that hl2-episode1 (or whatever you are calling "half life 3" ) doesnt end up being the same as hl2 with just another load of buildings to run through, there has to be something new, not just plot but gameplay, the valve attitude to dod:surce leaves me wondering whether anything that is released for sale will be original, so far i think the FREE mods are better all round.
why spend money on dod:source when dod is just the same with slightly worse gfx, and why why oh why didnt they include vehicles in dod:source, all they had to do was mod the buggy from hl2!
sometimes i think other developers are spot on, red orchestra is everything i thought dod:source should have been, not only that but its cheaper for the gameplay value!
to those of you that downloaded empires succesfully i say WELL DONE!
and to the guys/gals that posted the mirrors on the empires site please renew them because only the top one works, and it always cuts out just before 200mb gets downloaded.
and even if you do that i wont download it because first impressions are everything and the word that springs to my mind is "shoddy" if you cant host a file it doesnt say much about the team/mod
nb> dod:source team
i hope nexttime you look at other games and take hint of the fact that maps are getting bigger vehicles are standard and if i wanted to play dod i wouldnt buy the same game for source, its the same as the attidude towards hl source, making the same game on another engine is likened to my kid shitting in a nappy or a newspaper..... it doesnt make a difference and it sure as hell doesnt impress.
NB
i hope that red orchestra puts dod:source to shame and relegates it from steam community, i didnt buy it as i have played it on a friends server and never gone back, its worse than the original, even unreal tournament included vehicles years ago. i suppose it shows how much thought goes into gameplay from the unreal modding community, lets face it unreal-t isnt exactly a great ponderer.
long live the red orchestra it has everything i wanted from dod:source and much more, its almost as if they read my ideas for dod:source and used them to help make a better game, all my ideas and more have been included in RO
whats up with that?

JrdnGrn said:Man, I love the game..but the bugs are so annoying It's not worth playing.
Just so I can get a good server..I make one my self and make it maxplayers of 6. Which is still fun..until my game randomly crashes, therefore the server goes down.
Don't release...EVEN A BETA, if it can't handle normal gameplay. I was driving in a jeep when all of a sudden it just crashes.
Do a lot of INTERNAL betas before releasing the real thing.
Angry Lawyer said:There are only like three servers I can connect to. You need 16 players to play this properly, and then, you need 16 of them to be intelligent.
That'll never happen on a public server in Steam.

Lol, whenever I enter a server, it's always "Beerdude! Good thing you're here, we need a commander stat!"Angry Lawyer said:I think one of the major failings is actually that the majority of players are numpties and think they're playing Deathmatch. In the two days I've tried to get into it, I've had nothing but people run around, ignoring commands, and even driving the command vehicle right into the enemie's area. I've not actually seen anyone build a base yet.

MutantBeef said:Yeah, I sensed many times that Empires was trying to imitate the gameplay of BF2. Not that that's a bad thing, I actually thought many games were very fun
No, that's just the buggy coding :|Angry Lawyer said:Commanding causes my machine to bomb, strangely enough. Might be something to do with resolution.
