Explosion in London Underground

33 people confirmed dead, they expect more thou...

This is so sad... :(

21 killed at King's Cross
7 dead at Liverpool Street
5 at Edgeware road
=33 dead

This figure doesn't take into account the number killed on the bus - a doctor says 10, but it is unofficial.

They also seem to have forgotten the 2 killed at Aldgate East, which is very strange.

Add these all up and the provisional figure is 45 dead.

I live in london, and people in my school have parents who have been injured or even killed.

One parent was running to the train and the doors closed just before she got to it, she then heard a shake as the train exploaded at the next stop.

:(
she was very lucky, sorry about your other friends' parents though

that post can get you banned i think. posting "reported" i mean. :|

I can justify it by rightfully saying that it's me letting everyone know I wont tolerate hateful statements

Though they're sadly mistaken

fear is not rife. We were ready for this sadly.

They're threatening Denmark and Italy as well.

I think what gets me so badly is how they hide behind their religion. It's cowardly and pathetic.

Can you get off your high horse and stop baiting people into further hateful statements? Go vent in the politics forum!

An eyewitness has said the scene on a tube train in a tunnel near King's Cross station was "like a disaster movie".

The woman said passengers walked for 15 minutes along the track and she "kept closing her eyes and thinking of outside".

Did you guys hear on CNN that police snipers shot a suspected suicide bomber somewhere in London?

Probably just a swirling rumor, as they are common surrounding events such as these but still.....

The Police cheif just said its not true.

The unverified claim, made on the Al-Qal`ah, Fortress, internet site, was posted by a group calling themselves the Secret Organisation Group of Al-Qa`ida of Jihad Organisation in Europe.

The message, posted this morning, said: "The heroic mujahidin have carried out a blessed raid in London.

"Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters."

The claims, picked up by BBC Monitoring, claimed that the strikes were revenge for British military "massacres" in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Terrorists appeared to warn Denmark and Italy that they will also suffer attacks if they do not withdraw troops from Iraq.

The message went on: "In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and the dauntless fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God`s peace be upon him.

"O nation of Islam and nation of Arabism: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge from the British Zionist Crusader Government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"The heroic mujahidin have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror, and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters."

The police commander denied it.

Not a word about it over here... most likely a rumour

A reporter brought this up at a press conference just now with the police. She asked whether a police sniper had supposedly shot dead a suicide bomber at Canary Wharf. The Police denied it.

They also denied rumours that they had received any kind of warning before the incidents.

This link suggests that Israel had sent warning minutes before and that the Israeli Foreign Minister in London got a warning to stay inside his hotel. However, this is "christian science monitor" and might just be some "sneaky jew" type propaganda.

edit - turns out that this warning to the minister occurred after the first explosion, so that makes more sense.

you cant discuss this without mentioning iraq ...cause and effect

You'll just end up with the same ppl saying the same things - can't we just have a thread for the details of todays tragedy and wishing each other well, rather than getting out the blame stick and re-treading over the same points over and over?

I wholeheartedly agree.

am I the only one who's mad this thing happened? look I've apologised that I may have offended brits but the reality is that this WASNT an accident. Can we just leave it at that? I'm tired of people having knee-jerk reactions to what I say

Is the paper a religious periodical?

No, it's a real newspaper published by a church — The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Mass., USA. Everything in the Monitor is international and US news and features, except for one religious article that has appeared each day in The Home Forum section since 1908, at the request of the paper's founder, Mary Baker Eddy.

In an age of corporate conglomerates dominating news media, the Monitor combination of church ownership, a public-service mission, and commitment to covering the world (not to mention the fact that it was founded by a woman shortly after the turn of the century, when US women didn't yet have the vote!) gives the paper a uniquely independent voice in journalism.

Then if the paper's basically secular and for everybody, why is “Christian Science” in its name?

Eddy insisted, against strong opposition from some of her advisers and church officers, that the words “Christian Science” should be in the paper's name. According to one of her biographers, Robert Peel, to Eddy, "the designated title was an identification of the paper with the promise that no human situation was beyond healing or rectification if approached with sufficient understanding of man's God-given potentialities. Nor did the “good news” of Christianity involve the prettification of bad news, but rather, its confident confrontation" (witness Monitor correspondent David Rohde's Pulitzer Prize-winning reporting 1995 on alleged massacres by Bosnian Serb forces).

No, I don't think you're the only one mad. I'm mad.

I just think you're one of the few who seemingly bypass the thing after few moments with it and dive right into the politics of it all.

it's because I cut through the sentimentality of it all and dive right into the reasons behind the attacks ...if this happened on canadian soil I'd react no differently

It's not a knee jerk reaction.

You're a smart bloke, and know full well how poeple on internet forums like to argue the toss. This was a good thread untill ppl started regurgitating their political views.

It's just not needed.

I'm not angered by what you say despite disagreeing with you. To believe you can talk about this without mentioning the background/motives for whoever did it is a bit naive. The whole debate about who was responsible is itself part of the "blame game"; people want to know who is responsible for the suffering.

Regarding the details, I am somewhat baffled about why they keep coming up with this figure of 33 dead. They are ignoring the 2 dead at Aldgate East which they were so eager to emphasise earlier, and they aren't including the 10+ who died on the bus.

I wasnt saying your comment was a knee-jerk reaction ...someone calling me a "pussy" for my POV is a knee-jerk reaction ..but the reality is that tempers will flair as people point an accusatory finger at those responsible ...usually happens after the smoke has cleared and people have had time to think things through

I was wondering earlier if you were okay, glad you are. Oh, and from one Glenn to another, I feel your anger! They should go **** up their own country.

I'm going to go out on a limb and give my calculation of how many are dead, culled from various news sources atm. Don't take this as gospel, it could be completely wrong.

According to the continuously updated wikipedia entry:

Aldgate East Station
at least 7 killed
King's Cross Station
at least 21 killed
Edgware Road Station
at least 5 killed

According to ITV news recently

Liverpool street
7 dead

According to a doctor on 5 Live who was treating people at the scene of the tavistock sq. bus bomb:

at least 10 dead
police are saying they're as yet unable to calculate the numberwho died there. Sounds bad...

Assuming ITV didn't get the Liverpool street figures mixed up with the Aldgate East figures then these figures come to at least 50 dead. Then there's those still in critical condition.

*edit - wikipedia just updated, turns out they got their info wrong. Corrected figures bring the number dead back down to 45...

double edit - wikipedia just went back up to 7 at Aldgate East. someone needs to get their act together.

I don't see the logic in always pointing out that america is to blame when something like this happens. The terrorists dont like america, I get that. I know it. But when you have somebody that attacks somebody else based on the actions of another, its usually a sign they just simply don't like that person they attacked either.

It'd be like me killing your mother, because some guy raped mine.

The kingscross one is lucky cos my dad was going through it when it happened, but he wasn't hurt, just shit loads of dust and soot and shit. Honestly if anything would happen i'd sign up for the army and go hunting for some of these people. You cant just go round blowing shit up? chi posted before, and Laivasse above, and im here so it seems HL2net londoners are ok.

no it's like killing the accomplice of the person responsible for the rape

Thank god for everyone escaping harm, including your dad. I have a loose acquaintance who I used to go to school with who was apparently either on a bombed train, or one of the trains very close to it. A friend got a message from him talking about lots of smoke, and people with him who were now in shock, but he's totally unharmed. Lucky escape.

As an aside, I go to uni in Russell Square, although I don't use any of those exact routes. In term-time you would have seen a lot of students dead too...

It would seem that the incidents at Aldgate East/Liverpool street are the same thing, so that would bring my estimate down to about 38-40 dead...

edit - Jesus, they're showing the blood spattered buildings in Tavistock Square on daytime TV...

My Dad's in London today, he's okay thankfully, stuck in traffic. ****ing Al Queda, I hope that there's some serious action to root these bastards out in the aftermath of all this. My thoughts and hopes are with the families of those already fallen today, and those in critical conditions as a result.

Al Queda have made a big mistake here. We're not going to back out of this war because of a few poxy bombs in London, this is only going to boost public opinion in favour of the wars.
