Fallout 3: Moar Gameplay Vids

From another messageboard, a kind of a minor spoiler on how to get regenerative powers.

From where?

From the lady in the store in Megaton. You know the one that needs research for her book? Well she wanted me to get 200 rads of radiation poisoning. 600 was optional. I went with 600 and she fixed me up after studying my condition but there was a side effect....

Graphics look pretty, VATS system still looks cheap as all hell, enemy AI looks braindead, and the weapon sounds leave much to be desired.

More godmode gameplay with best weapons in the game and enemies charging at you in a straight line while you're ripping them apart?

That's pretty much the entire game.

It looks really atrocious.

I cannot even believe I am saying this but after watching a video of Gears of War 2 and then watching a video for this it looked so awful! Granted, they are very different games with very different assets, but man, that was terribly jarring. I will not get this one until I can get a PC that will run this on the absolute best settings so that it looks great and plays well. I really wish they had stuck with the isometric format. :(

The more I see the more I think i'll wait for mods to come out. Unless I hear great stuff about the story and rpg elements, then ive decided not to get it at release. And I'm talking about from people who play it, not from review sites that are going eat up all the shit and say it tastes like a god-pizza like they did with oblivion.

The graphics are very meh, the VATS is just a "Kill: Yes/No?" type of feature that will get stale 30 minutes into it, and the AI is no different than Oblivion's, which is shit two way, one because Oblivion's AI was shit, and secondly because Oblivion was most a melee game. I really wish they went with a new engine, I think the game could have been a lot better.

Don't hold your breath. The story sounds like one taken from a bad Superman comic.

Yes. If it was done by Obsidian for isntance.

The enemies barely react to the standard shots from any gun.

lol gud 1 lolol!

But seriously, even Bethesda could have made it better if they didnt choose to limit themselves so much by using their shitty oblivion engine.

same thoughts ran trough my mind...

the game truly looks like oblivion with gunz and a lot of dusty-brown color.

i'm not impressed so far

Looks great, love the environments, can't wait to explore them.

lol gud 1 lolol!

If LucasFarts didn't push the schedule (13 months fir such a massive sequel? COME ON), KOTOR2 would've been a game on par with PS:T.

But seriously, even Bethesda could have made it better if they didnt choose to limit themselves so much by using their shitty oblivion engine.

Here, the fault lies with the mediocre writing, retarded plot and rape of Fallout.

I saw live streams of the gameplay and the quests. Really, it's not the graphics that are the core of the problem, as they never are the focus of RPGs.

Agree with Krynn. The engine stinks. Ragdolls looks terrible, it can't even get those right.

If LucasFarts

Well I was talking more about the gameplay. Even RPGs need to have decent gameplay, which this engine apparently doesnt support. The graphics I could easily forgive if they provide at least one outstanding quality in their game. Which I dont think they do.

From waht I've seen, the GNN Radio Plaza looks pretty nice (the place with the orb and the Behemoth) as well as the Planetarium, which is simply magnificent. The Vault (except for the entrance) is well done. Some character design is good (the new jumpsuits are certainly an interesting development of the original idea), some pieces of environment (<3 the car design) and the Vertibirds.

It's incredibly uneven. Some parts are good, most are mediocre, while many downright atrocious.

Looks like Oblivion with guns. If it's modifiable like Oblivion, that is a huge plus.

Some of the sounds could be better. That would be the first thing I would change, myself.

The the lock on feature with a view to a kill looks really sweet, but way too easy. I don't get it. I suppose there is a limit to how often you can use it. You just select the head and it's automatic headshot? You don't aim or something, like a sniper scope you should control the breathing or something like that..

looks bland, and the AI looks fairly stupid. They seem to be a good shot, but other than that, if they are weaponless they just run at you, and it's easy to just move, and why do you walk backwards faster than them and they fall for it every time, no lunge at you or anything.

the enemies all have the same voice. Fine if you consider that adult male human voices are not all that different, but there should be pitch variation! (some voices deeper or slower. all enemies random pitch +/-)

blood and explosions are awesome

Enemies look awesome.

ragdolls look a little buggy, but still cool for the most part

Despite all those complaints, it looks fun and interesting, and I'd buy it.

I'm a fan of Bethesda stuff, but they always release games before they are ironed out. There are still kinks, flaws, bugs, etc. Like if they had another 6 months on all their games, they could have been much better.

It reminds me a lot of Bioshock BTW

I think its a shame that there is not more character in the NPCs. I'm not talking about the voices, but body gestures (drunks sway whilst they walk for example) , fists slamming down on tables, NPCs grabbing NPCs by the scrufs of their necks, cowering in the corner that sort of thing.

That is stupid, but I guess mainstream gamers are not too accustomed with shooting with either the mouse or console analog sticks, the more elite could play without them effectively.

This is exacly what I was musing over when I refreshed this thread.

I don't understand how some stuff, environmentally, can look so great, while at the same time the animation is so poor. I don't know how so much thought can have gone into some elements of the design, while what I've seen of the writing seems painfully mediocre. And so forth.

There is a percentage chance-to-hit. I rarely see anyone miss however. Even in one of the vids, the player hits a mutant from miles away with a rocket launcher when the chance was 25%.

I don't understand the hate. You can't judge gameplay from videos. In another thread someone told that there is much more in Left 4 Dead than what you see from videos and trailers, just to have an example, so I'm still considering buying Fallout 3 because... yes, I liked Oblivion and I love its engine. My only fear is about the rig needed to run that heavy graphics.

I dont even get why people keep talking about the graphics. They dont look that great. It shouldnt take anything more than Oblivion did hardware wise. It looks like they just reused a lot of the same textures from oblivion and didnt even raise the resolution. All the rocks and rubble texture still look like the shitty ass texture they used in Oblivion.

I mean, hell, they still dont have any ****ing shadows

And I think it is possible to judge gameplay from the videos. There have been dozens of gameplay videos, all of which show the exact same gameplay. If there were more, they would at least say there was. Plus its the Oblivion engine, which only allows for this kind of lame gameplay.

Now tell me that Oblivion had bad graphics and I can stop playing because I am obviously missing something about what the graphics in a game should be :)

Oh, really? I didn't notice that. Maybe it's not so important. By the way, I am not a Fallout 3 fanboy. It's just that I like what I see in those videos and I want to play the game.

I liked oblivion's lighting engine, and I liked the draw distance. Their models were ok, and the stuff they got from speedtree looked alright, but holy **** I hated their textures. They all looked so bad. Characters faces, the ground textures, wall textures, uhg. Thank god some of the people in the modding community had some texturing skill, because god damn the originals were FUUUUUGLY.

This. I'm never one to judge something based on videos, but this genuinely looks shit.

Oh well, more money for horse-riding and crochet work :)

I'm going to go with the flow and assume that Bethesda fsked up.

Hope they release a modkit... there will be hell to pay if they don't.

I really hope this isn't going to be a trend. TES 5 will probably have only 4 voice actors for all races while wasting a crap load of money on big stars who have 5 minutes worth of dialogue. :/

I bet it sells like ****ing mad.

If you want make a game that will sell, make it in a popular format that the majority play, add lots of interest stuff, big guns, bombs, interesting enough story and BAM!

Bioshock all over again.

*cough cough* plus good marking...

PS: In all honestly, I mean honestly, do you really think Fallout 3 would please the mass public (and I'm not talking about hardcore fallout fans here, if that were the case, they would be making fan product that probably would sell to a minority...) if it was like the original ones, becasue I sure don't.

I still don't get why people bitch about Bioshock. Yeah, it wasn't the masterpiece everyone was looking forward to, and the gameplay was a good deal more shallow than we were led to believe, but it was still a pretty brilliant game, and far from a product that was "catering to the majority."

Fixed for what Fallout 3 is.

And yes, I do think most gamers would like a more true-to-the original game. There are ways of making the game more accessible and enjoyable than the previous games that dont involve making it into Oblivion.

On the list of things I care about in a video game, 'environmental shadows' is so far down you need a telescope to read the text.

TBH, I don't know what I'm gonna do. Everything I've seen of FO3 so far screams mediocrity. BUT they decided not to ship any DRM with in the game, which seems to be something truly worthy of praise these days and something I personally want to support. Soooo... should I buy the game to support Bethesda's choice of NO DRM, but at the same time support a possibly mediocre game? I only wanna support companies that make good games! ;( But no drm = WIN!! I can't decide! Impossible! Nooooo! *head explodes*

Or maybe the game will actually turn out to be an amazing feat of game design (ie. good) and I'm worrying over nothing
