Fallout 3 walkthrough with combat footage

That last trailer with the cheesy music was way better than any of the gameplay videos.

I am also getting Oblivion flashbacks. Honestly, I will be playing the whole thing in V.A.T mode - **** that real time shit, it looks horrendeous.

Holy shit.

This last trailer is ****ing awesome.

**** YEAH MINIGUN

Oh I love this music.

Bloody mess ain't looking as cool as I wished it did, but whatever, someone willl mod it eventually.

Whilst the combat looks a bit so-so, I think I'll be buying this for the setting alone. The parts involving the vaults look great and if theres an opputunity for me to wander around a big torn up city with mutant freaks snapping at my heels then sign me up.

Hmmmm I dont know what to think...

I thought the atmosphere and the world looks amazing. You really have to give them props for that.

FPS gameplay looked kinda wierd. I mean how the enemies would go down.

Then the VATS was kinda cool in my opinion. If it could stop the world and the enemies and you take turns firing back on each other, it could be really cool then. Yet I doubt it's like that.

I think the gameplay videos lacked one thing, the usual Fallout music during combats.

But I agree I think it was solely meant as a demonstration for how the combat system works. Yet I still hope theres a good soundtrack that will be played in the background while I'm blowing enemies limbs off.

I had hope for this game...

**** Bethesda in their ****holes

I just noticed something in the gameplay trailer.

Did you guys see how when he shot at that guy near the turret, how he dropped his weapon when his arm was hit? I thought that was pretty cool.

1. Atmosphere looks awesome.

2. Combat looks fun only if you do it in real-time. (That targeting system looks really stupid to me)

3.AI looks piss-poor.

4. Mini-nuke is incredibly stupid and unbelievable.

Looks fun, for about a week maybe. Like Oblivion!

It's been confirmed that VATS is a bullet-time superpower.

Quoted for emphasis and agreement on all 4 points.

Yeah, ok, I'll stick with that.

These threads are so much easier to read when certain peoples are on your ignore list :)

Why don't people like the mini-nuke? You can ****ing shoot a bomb as big as house. Who gives a shit that it's "over the top" it really doesn't matter.

Edit: Also, maybe he was playing on easy so he could show things off easily. That might be why the AI looks retarded.

I'll take a wild guess- people who don't like the mini-nuke?

It's a retarded idea, plain and simple.

Read the Wikipedia article on Davy Crockett and other small nuclear munitions. Look at the safety distances.

I'm an avid reader of NMA, and I noticed most of the complaints were about the excessive dismemberment and the super accurate PC. I think it's pretty obvious that the Bloody Mess perk/trait/whatever-it's-now-called is somewhat boosted by the fact that the PC has been made into a demi-god for demo purposes.

I don't mind dismemberment whatsoever, but only when it makes sense. I was watching Todd Howard demo the game on G4 last night, and there were plenty of times where he would shoot an enemy (be it in real-time or through that retarded VATS) in one area, only to have the enemy's bodyparts from the other areas not hit with his projectile fly off like they were wired to blow at the slightest touch. That's silly, excessive, and really dumb. I don't care who you are. If you like the fact that shooting an enemy in the torso makes his arms, legs, head, or worse, all of them, fly off, you're dumb. Really really dumb. The worst part was how all of this was encouraged by the G4 staff and audience with childish "Oohs" and "Ahhs" and the raucous applause (almost only when he used VATS...because it's in slow-mo...*sigh*).

I want to like this game really bad. The setting is cool, the storyline sounds decent, but from what I've seen in the last 24 hours, I'm not on track to buying this title.

P.S. - If you need elaboration on why a ****ing mini-nuke gun is retarded, then that's precisely what you are - retarded. Good morning.

Im disappointed at the gameplay demo. Just looks clunky the animations look stiff. Still everything else about the game is insane so its still on my hype machine.

oh and whats with the retarded VATS shit..?

Everything else about the game is insane? Please elaborate..

It better be one! /me gets his tar and feathering brush

Of course it is, it's the bloody mess perk.

I think the mini-nuke is stupid, but it has been delegated to the "incredibly rare super weapon" category, so hopefully they won't be that widespread. And by "won't be that widespread" I mean "there needs to be like one or two of these in the game at most".
Are you silly? It's Bethesda and Oblivion with guns we're talking about here, once you get high enough level everyone will have BoS armor and laserrifles, even the bloody bums and alcoholics will have'em!

I wouldn't have a problem with it if it were a realistic mini-nuke. Real mini-nukes don't have smaller explosions than a grenade and generate mini mushroom clouds. Real mini-nukes make you wind up dead from a hundred yards from the pressure wave alone.

Then you're being a bit idiotic in your approach by assuming your opinion on how Bloody Mess works is the correct one. It's meant to be over the top. The nuke launcher thing I really don't mind but they need to rename it and change the explosion effect. Make it a mortar launcher and be done with it. Mini nuke my arse.

If Bloody Mess would mean the difference between a head always popping or only sometimes popping from a headshot, then it would make sense and be satisfying. If it means that a headshot makes someone's limbs pop off and explode, then Malfunction is right - it's retarded and childish.

The only times Bloody Mess would seem that stupid in the old games was when you got a ridiculously gory death sequence from a wimpy melee weapon. IIRC when using guns the death anims would match up pretty well even with Bloody Mess turned on. An automatic weapon would mince the torsos, a single shot would tend to blow one large hole, etc.

Personally I never used Bloody Mess because I thought it diluted the satisfaction of getting genuine critical-shot kills. I had no intention of selecting BM even if I were to purchase F3, so how good it does or doesn't look means little to me, but as it stands it does look retarded and makes me worry about the way Bethesda are trying to pitch the game when making stylistic choices.

And like the rest of you I'm also of the view that that nuke launcher does not need to be called a nuke launcher.

Having never played any Fallout games before, I guess I wasn't aware just exactly what the Bloody Mess perk was. So then, with that enabled you get exploding ragdolls for every death? I guess if it's optional that's ok, but wow, that just looks silly to me. Like I said, I don't mind decapitation and gibbing, but not in the situations I'd described earlier.

Ok- the newer videos are making the game look more interesting. I will definatly keep tabs on this game.

details and gameplay impressions, from shacknews:

Igromania got to play the game according to NMA, here's an interview translated -

* There will be mines and minefields. Depending on your skill you'll be able to find mines sooner or later before they explode. If your skill is high enough, you'll hear a beeping sound a few seconds before the explosion and will have a chance to run away. If your skill is very high, you'll be able to retrieve mines and then set them where you want to.
* As was already mentioned before, non-conversational skills will provide some dialogue options.
* Sneaking is switched on automatically when you duck. Sneaking is important for pickpocketing.
* You can not only pick pockets, but you can put something into one's pockets too, like explosives or grenades.
* Jet and psycho are in. You can get addicted to them. Addictions are cured by local doctors.
* Random encounter mentioned by Emil: he walked at night and met some homeless man with a brahmin. Emil wanted to shoot at the man, but suddenly some white bear (they called it something like Jaguai; Ausir says it's Yao-Guai) jumped out of the bushes and attacked Emil's character. Emil explained that this bear was a pet of that homeless man.
* Weather is dependent on the area you are in. For example, in Washington, the sky is grey, so the city looks dark. The wasteland is sunny on the other hand. They wanted to recreate the atmosphere of the first Fallout, says Todd.
* They say that all the towns in previous Fallout games looked the same. Bethesda wanted to create towns with their unique souls and they say that each town differs from the others.
* Bethesda's praising the AI of NPCs. Every NPC is doing something like cleaning or walking, they have their own schedules. Bethesda say that it's not that they've changed Oblivion's AI, they just enhanced it with animation.
* They say they wanted to show how hard it is to live in the post-apocalyptic world, so they tried to avoid anything cartoonish.
* The game now is twice as big as they wanted initially.
* Todd Howard: "We're doing the game for the fans. When you look at the first Fallouts you can't say, 'That what's made this game popular.' Those games were great [...] We do not want to simplify things, we are doing a game with a hardcore gameplay. As fans for fans".

And heres what the guy who played the game said -

* "I've heard many complaints about that it's not Fallout by the atmosphere [he said it's his personal complaint too], that it looks like Oblivion, that the music is bad. From what I've seen, it's all true."
* But, he says, you'll love this game despite all that. And here are the reasons:
- Multiple ways to solve quests.
- Exploring is really cool, you'll never know what you'll find.
- As for the RPG part of the game - everything is saved from the past games. He says that in Falout 3 your skills really matter. The game is really hardcore and not going into mainstream, in his opinion.
* He also compares the combat system to Mass Effect and says that he loved V.A.T.S., especially when compared to ME. He notes that opponents are dumb, do not run to avoid shots though.
* He says the exploration part reminded him of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
* Characters are well-done in his opinion. He provides some examples: in Megaton, there is boy that cares for a girl that lost her parents. There is also a man that came to Megaton to start a new life (he was a bandit in his past). When you talk to him, it appears that he won't mind returning to his past occupation. He refuses to join the PC because of his good karma. You can come to his house at night and you'll find lots of empty wisky bottles, because he can't cope with his new life.
* Overall, the game looks much better than a year ago.

Who is Todd trying to fool exactly?

Also, waiting for the first RetardAI movies on YouTube.

Man, I remember getting hyped for Oblivion, being promised these realistic, "full of life" cities where the citizens would mingle amongst themselves. Then I was greeted with routine pathways taken by every NPC just about every day, the same conversations being had by different NPCs standing right next to each other (so you almost hear an overdub), the lack of voice actors, and all that other great stuff.

Does Bethesda really think that they hit it out of the park with Oblivion's AI? Shit man, just shit.

you take the joy out of life

but seriously there's no way you'll enjoy this game even if it's better than sliced bread ..you need to take a few steps back, you'll enjoy games much more that way ..i've purposefully avoided followin F3's development

I select only good games to play, hence, my enjoyment is guaranteed.

Standards Stern ;)

The thing is, Oblivion's AI s actually really good, butis limited by a few things. One was that all their paths were essentially predetermined, that is, they would have certain points that NPCs would walk between to reach an end. This caused them to all sort of move around in the same way. Fallout 3 uses a mesh system for NPC path-finding and is supposedly much more natural. Second, although Oblivion's AI is very good, most of the time, NPCs didn't really do a lot aside from work, eat, talk and sleep. In Fallout 3, they have a lot more actions they can perform, which makes them seem more realistic and intelligent overall. Last, they have way more voice-actors and fewer NPCs overall, so expect way fewer random conversations between people and far less repetition of lines.

If what you say is true, that would make it far better than Oblivion. The enemy AI looked kind of weak though, from the few clips we were shown. But I'm thinking/hoping he was playing on a really easy setting or something.

I remember getting so hyped for Oblivion's so-called dynamic AI. They made it sound as if random quests could be generated by the game from you overhearing two NPC's conversation, but that just wasn't so. One day, maybe.
