Bethesda advertises Fallout New Vegas in Japan...

They're angry about their particular genre of choice, and they've taken up picket signs to protest some of the problems they see.

Says one, "A game where you just follow the scenario is like living life on rails."

Another: "What's the point of playing again if there's no change to the story."

The girl to the left: "When did games become something that you watch?"

The tall one in back: "I think it would be nice if the main character had a mission aside from just wiping out evil."

Suggests the one sitting in front: ""The world has been prepared. After that, you're free to do as you please!"

Bethesda win.

I thought the Japanese whould be protesting the game becouse of the nuclear bombs and shit.

But that's cool I guess.

Bethesda wish they could make games as good as Konami.
**** em

No. VATS =/= turn based.
I meant the strategic choices of where to shoot. You're in combat/VATS, you aim for the head, run around until your action points recharge, rinse, repeat.

You're way off, Japanese 'entertainment' can be far more vulgar than 'Western' one, take the Front Mission(a popular game series over there) mangas, they depict the combatants in a more realistic fashion, every lead character is ****ed up in some way.

And the mangas themselves feature everything from execution and mass-murder of civilians to the rape of minors and shit.

Que? Get the dix outta your ass and lighten up.

Who the fudge are you again?*Slow*:(

In Japan? YOU DON'T SAY!

No need for sarcasm!

I was just pointing out that Japan's aren't really sensitive about the whole depiction of nukes in their media, fictional or otherwise, as far as I know.

Anime and manga can be pretty ****ed and still get by censors, but they aren't really affected in the same way as games are by ratings over there.

So graphic depiction of children being murdered etc is fine(in manga), but graphic depiction of demons being slaughtered isn't(God of War 3)?

Emperor bless Japan!

It's not a matter of what gets censored and what doesn't, it's a matter of what effect the ratings have on their sale. The kind of manga that involve rampant child murder probably aren't going to have a huge amount of advertising.

Also, yeah, different ratings bodies are responsible for games than other types of media. Isn't this kind of universal?

Holy shit, Marcus from Fallout 2 is back!

Nuclear bombs have a bit of a special significance in Japan.
*cough*

For instance, in the Japanese version of Fallout 3 itself, you can't blow up Megaton.

Last I heard a community manager from Bethesda spoiled the identity of who shot you. :|

Pretty sure it's out there but I don't want to know.

That's what the comic is about.

Well, I've seen quite a few Japanese animes that feature nuclear weapons being used, against amongst other civilians targets.

So I just thought it wasn't that taboo.

uh I said Marcus is back...

Yeah, we know.

I never really liked Marcus. He always managed to kill everyone, including me, Sullik and Cassidy. Sure, Cassidy could sometimes shotgun burst me from time to time, and once he killed Vic, but god damn it Marcus ALWAYS managed to kill at least one party member whenever he used his minigun.

Rizzo, that's why I almost always went solo in both Fallout's.

It's right there in the intro to FNV, god.

Eh? They've been acting like it was a mystery until now.

It still sort of is. All you know of the shooter is what he looks like. You still don't know the motive or what was in the package.

Good job finding that taviow, thanks!

I love Perlman's monologues!

Who's the guy with the glasses? He sure is popular.

I still need to finish Fallout 3 and I don't know if that's ever going to happen.

So I'm out.

Fallout 3 is not needed for understanding the story of New Vegas.

Tagaziel is correct, neither is playing Fallout 1 or 2.

Besides, there are good plot summaries out there(some that summarize all the different choices you can make for the main quests iirc) if you absolutely want to make sure you know the other games stories at least a bit.

summaries are for kids, go play the real game. "omg it says ian is gay on the wiki, it must be true!!!".

Im torn about how much Im interested in this game.

Fallout 3 was pretty awesome, if a little dated in it's feel. Everything from the character models to the motions just felt really outdated somehow.

The story and the way it was told, the interactions etc was awesome though, Bethesda did a seriously great job there, I just wanted it to look better.

Now they're using the same engine to create a new game which basically looks exactly the same as the last one...I dunno.

Its like they're not trying, maybe its just me.

Fallout 3 had a good story?

This is news to me.

Beth need to drop Gamebryo like a bad habit. Here's hoping they switch over to the new id engine or something for Elder Scrolls 5, and (potentially) the next generation of Fallout games. That and hire some new animators, cause damn.
