Far Cry water rendition beat the crap out of HL2's Engine

I saw the E3 videos of H2's water rendition and compared to Far Cry's CryTek engine, it looks very primitive. CryTek beats the sh*t out of HL2 engine...

I must agree, Far Crys water is...not water-y. It looks plastic like.
But let's just say that the water beats the crap out of HL2's and then dances on its grave. Then comes in the story:
"I'll go to the beach and kill a shitload of people so I can get to the bunker. In the bunker it's dark and scary and cool light effects(they really are) and WTF?! Doom-like monster with cannon implanted to it's arm.

HL2's story will most likely be same lvl as HL's which is the same thing as incredibly good.

If you look from a certain distance in Far Cry (like the pic here above) it's looks quite nice. But check the water in the HL2 pic in de ATI PDF (cave, ant lion, water). It's just realistic... Just realistic. It's as water is in real life. That's it. You can see it too in the Tunnels vid. In the beginning he sees a scanner coming and just then you see some spots of water on the floor that reflect ultrarealistic to the light further up the hall. I've never seen that in Far Cry.

take a look at the water in the E3 techdemo, or the E3 Docks video... far cry comes nowhere near either of those vids in terms of realism.

also, look in the screens gallery on my website. in a category i'm not allowed to name on this forum, you'll find a few non-spoiler images that will show you water as you'll never see in far cry.

Anyways FC does look incredible, however the HL2 graphics are just outthere, it's painful to comprehend but seeing those waves in motion with all the refractions, it shall be amazing...

FarCry's water is pretty impressive. From what I have seen/played of HL2s water they are very comparable, thought seperate in style.

It's too bad to have all these comparison threads on two very different games, one which has even yet to be released.

Still, the water is probably the last reason why I'm buying HL2 instead of Farcry.

Close up, it's very shiny jello. It may be my ATI 9600XT, but I didn't even see any attempt at splashing for the most part.

EDIT: I especially like the dead bodies in FC water. They float completely still on the surface of the water--as if it were cement.

Farcry's water looks good but it also looks repetitive and from above, like a flat brain textured surface.

The water in my glass > HL2 > FC.
