Farcry-a buy?

Now, i have seen a few videos of this game, seen the reviews and it looks cool, but is it worth buying? Im a bit low on the cashflow so should it be my buy of the month? (if HL2 doesnt come out :p)
 
:dozey: I guess you could buy it, from what I have seen the majority of people like, if not loved it. I, myself hate the piece of ****ing shit! Storywise is fell off, the engine is great though. I say get it to get a feel how next-gen engines are going to be, especially for like outdoor stuff.
 
I agree, hold off on buying this game until it hits the bargain bin.

Which would also give mod teams enough time to release a few mods, good ones hopefully. I've modded the engine and truthfully I found it to be severely ackward and limiting, don't expect many good mods to come from it (if any) but hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised.
 
It's still one of the best PC First-Person Shooters of the year. Due to the fact that there hasn't been a lot of games in this genre released recently (with the exception of some).

There are two demos of the game out there. If you find yourslfe playing the demos a lot, then by all means buy the game. The problem is that many people got upset by the poor...lets call them the "enemies", that were introduced after the first few levels of the game. And by the end, there wasn't a lot left to be had since the SDK wasn't released, and the multiplayer was unbalanced.

Definately more fun to have a friend with you when you play, but it is, for sure, one of those like-it-or-hate-it titles.

LOVE DEMO = get game
MEH DEMO = AVOID UNLESS ON DISCOUNT
 
Best single player I've had in a long time. The only let downs for me were how hard it was on easy, and how hard it got at the end. I kinda suck though so...
Have you tried the demo, if you like the demo then you'll love most of the game.

Hard on EASY!? Apparently you didn't play Realistic.. I got all the way to River on realistic and said "screw this, this is no longer fun.. DIEDIEDIEDIE!" and never even beat it.
 
It was normal i played on challenging i beleave and went through it pretty fast.

Actually I sorta played through it again on realistic and I didin't find that much harrder than easy(ok a little). They just needed to make easy easier is all. I suck at fps's in general though.
 
Far Cry's worth a buy, yep. :) Each level is varied, and the indoor areas are incredibly cool.

well, it was dumb for a few reasons

1) Hiding in bushes simply didn't work, they could see you
2) They could see you a mile away, literally. And they'd head towards you immediately
3) They could take 2 Jackhammer shots to the head.. now THAT'S realism
4) Their response times were like, instant. On normal, which I restarted on, the game was a BREEZE
 
Far Cry is pretty good imo. Not great, but still shits on Doom 3.

Like someone else pointed out, there haven't been many good shooters released for ages - Far Cry is certainly one of the better ones (beggars can't be choosers ;)).
 
the demo was fun, but i like faster paced games, amazing graphics and etc, but meh, i might ILLEGALY DOWNLOAD IT OFF OF THE INTERNET MWHAHAHAHAHHAHAH

I didn't like the game, but seriously don't pirate the game. People like you make me sick. If you don't like it, don't buy it. That doesn't give you the right to steal a game.

I got farcry and i really enjoy it... i still can't get past the camp as i suck at driving and shooting at the same time and i dont play it often. I didnt buy it though so i advise doing the above.
 
I like Far Cry. It's a bit of a challenging game, so I'd only recommend it to people who already play a lot of fps games. It shouldn't really be an introduction to the genre or something. Still, the single-player was suprisingly long, and is genuinly a lot of fun, so you should be getting what you paid for. :)
 
Far Cry is varied, and alot of fun, dont lisen to any forumite critique's about it being crap, because they are so far away from being right, they might aswell be in denial.

('it looks too plasticy' is the shitest reason ever to diss a game)
 
It was an ok game with nice graphics, a shitty story and worthless MP.
 
heheh yeh mp sux and dont forget the lag :|
but the graphics are very nice and if you can build lvl,s with the ED the game is more fun than it already was;)
 
I didn't like it, and I got a good price for it when I traded it for Burnout 3 :p
 
The only thing I liked about FarCry was that the weapons felt good to fire, something Deus Ex 2 should learn from....

I love playing far cry. It is the hardest FPS i've ever played and i'm still playing it...great story and AI. Taking it slow and seeing the sights is fun. :bounce:

Well, I wouldn't recommend buying it for the story. :D
Its a real cheesy and tongue-in-cheek affair, but it doesn't matter because the game is genuinely fun.

Get HL2.

Far Cry is ok, but since it lacks a good multiplayer, it will start collecting the dust once you've beaten it.

IF you beat it.. I lost total interest when I got to River.
 
i did not buy the game...i did play the demo and.. well it was kinda fun but at that time i was low on cash flow.
then after release i read everyone's opinion on it and thought "glad i didn't spend any cash on it" since mostly pple were disappointed with it.
now being close HL2's release and other good games coming out(Bloodlines, Halo2, GTA:SA) i'd suggest holding off since u have held off from buying Far Cry this long.

I'd buy it but dont expect it to be HALFLIFE2 like all the people expected that dont like it :rolleyes:

It was one of the best FPS ive ever played and the story is ok, its not FF7 though, oh and for the books, HL1's story was'nt intruiging either, i played HL1 for the gameplay and only the gameplay, infact...i did'nt even notice it had a story. I'm buying HL2 for its gameplay to.

Overall Farcry is a must...it does'nt excel in anything really (well its graphics was superior at the time) but it has GOOD everything and makes a nice game, quite scary also at times.

Edit/ Not to mention your asking on a HL2 fansite *note* - FANSITE. Obviously there are people here who will dislike this game simply because its "competition" for HL2 on best FPS game. If you asked "HL2 or Farcry?" on a farcry fansite website what do you think the response would be!? of course the majority of them would say farcry.

If you want an unbiased vote for this...goto a none HL2 or FC website and ask. Oh and you can't get a better opinion of the game than yourself...play it and find out...if your a gamer that accepts games for what they are and not what you want them to be then you'll most probably love farcry. If your tastes are limited to a particualar type of gameplay then forget it.
 
far cry was a great game, lots of fun. MP is frustrating because of the lag, but fun nonetheless
