FIFA World Cup

Scotland, Wales, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (although not part of the UK) all have their own teams.

You worded that in a rather misleading manner.

I was really surprised by Ghana based on the highlights. They really gave Germany a hard time and shouldve scored atleast 2 or 3.

If they keep that up in the final 16 they may get further than any African nation ever.

[Edit] Just thought of Fabio Capello. At the World Cup, surely teams should only be managed by managers from their own country??? I can think of a few UK managers that would be just as good.

It just seems like the vast majority of teams can get a manager from their own country, when England and Ivory Coast cant (what the hell is Sven doing managing IVC?)

I don't think a single African team has an African manager.

I'd just like to put a big fat thank you for the gif, trolled a facebook threaed bigtime with the haters gon' hate thing.

I thought England played much better than before, but still worryingly wank in some respects. Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney and Barry barely even showed up, and if not for some ridiculously sweet crossing from Milner we would have had another bore draw. Our star players desperately need to step up a few gears if we're to stand a chance against Germany. Ozil & co. look like they could eat our back line for breakfast, only pausing to cough up Terry's diseased gonads.

I'm also disappointed that Green's been removed. I like David James and think he's a better first choice than Green, but having picked Green as first choice Capello should have stuck with him. James has had virtually nothing to do in the last couple of games that Green wouldn't have been able to deal with easily, and being part of the team that progressed to the last 16 would have helped heal the huge wound in his confidence. As it is, Capello just hung the poor kid out to dry, helping to perpetuate the fallacy that Green's screw-up alone cost us the win against the USA when it was actually the team's collectively shitty performance. This world cup is now going to be nothing for Green except a trauma which will resonate through his whole career.

All whites play Paraguay in just under an hour, I wonder if we'll be able to keep our lucky streak going.

You're going home Wolfy! The south american teams in the competition so far have been superb and I'm pretty sure the semi-finals will be 4 SA teams. Paraguay have looked impressive.

I think Schweinsteiger has tweaked his hamstring and Ozil limped off at the end. If both of them are out the England game we've got more than half a chance, although it will probably be a textbook defeat to penalties.

"The World Cup is like World War II; the French surrendered early, the Americans arrived late, and we are left to fight the Germans"

Heard somebody say that on TV, made me giggle.

1-0 down, 5-1 up, 2 World Wars and 1 World Cup!!

Haha I think I agree with you Glenn but I'm keeping positive for the boys :)

edit: we're doin' alright, Winston Reid is looking for trouble though.

Italy are losing 2-0 to Slovakia right now, this is delightful! :D

edit: Well it's 2-1 this very second now!

Holy shit that was intense.

Slovakia played well, but the defense got sloppy. The goalkeeper was even more sloppy.

Yes, Italy is out! I can feel sympathy for them, though, they struggled so hard during the last 45 minutes. Still though, one half of good play doesn't make up for five halves of absolute rubbish during the rest of tournament.

Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney barely even showed up
What? Gerrard was fundamental in all link up play up front. Rooney although not scoring (nearly did) connected a lot of play. Lampard was also involved most of the build play, and produced some amazing passes. Just because they aren't scoring goals it doesn't mean they aren't doing anything.

Our star players desperately need to step up a few gears if we're to stand a chance against Germany. Ozil & co. look like they could eat our back line for breakfast, only pausing to cough up Terry's diseased gonads.

I for one am not scared of the prospect of playing Germany. Ghana really streched them at times and Ozil seems to be the only player actually doing anything in terms of setting up and scoring goals. Not to mention our defence has been solid, even through the rubbish games we played. John Terry has been like a rock, Ashley Cole and Johnson are playing the games of their lives.

James has had virtually nothing to do in the last couple of games that Green wouldn't have been able to deal with easily, and being part of the team that progressed to the last 16 would have helped heal the huge wound in his confidence. Are you serious? James was always first choice as far as I am concerned, by far the better keeper, the past two games he hasn't put a foot wrong, was in full command of his net yesterday. Green was the only reason we lost the first game, the performance itself was enlightening compared to previous England performances, how they came out like they did against Algeria is beyond me, the game they played yesterday should have been the performance against Algeria. It was 1-0, and we had full command of the game, the only reason we drew was because Green let a shocking goal in, therefore it was his fault. It's not Capello's job to play people just because they had a bad game and he needs to restore their confidence when the game they are playing is extremely important and they have a great and experienced goal keeper on the side waiting to take command of the net. Green had his chance, and he blew it, on the world cup stage that will cost you your place.

And LOL at Italy going out. One of my mates who always slates England is an Italy fan, MAN is he getting slated!

We'll be playing Slovakia on Monday. Dunno if that is a good or a bad thing really. Probably good. After that most likely Brazil. *shivers* Robben better be fully fit by then. He played for about 15 minutes today and he contributed to a goal. He can win matches.

You'll need Robben fit again Shaker if you end up facing Brazil, hoping the Dutch get to the final and win :D

Yeah, the quarter finales -if we reach those- will be the litmus test. If we can beat Brazil, we should be able to reach the finals. I am afraid it will be a reprise of 1994 though. The defense seems to be our weak spot.

So taking a look at Englands possible route to the Final.

Last 16 - Germany

Quarter Final - Argentina

Semi-Final - Spain

Final - Brazil

****.

Man, I want to watch the world cup on the RoseTint-o-Vision TV you have.

Gerrard and Lampard have done bugger all so far, decent link-up play in particular being lacking. Rooney isn't looking anywhere close to the team-carrying world class star we need him to be, he's blowing possession all over the place when he isn't coming too deep to be useful.
Green was the only reason we lost the first game, the performance itself was enlightening compared to previous England performances...
wutgasm

Brazil - Portugal was utterly disappointing. I don't see either of these teams winning the cup if they keep playing like this.

Lampard I will agree hasn't done much, but Gerrard was fundamental is all England's connectives between the midfield and strikers.

And no I watch it how it is and focus on the bigger picture, not just the result. You can draw or even loose and still play well, Arsenal do it all the time.

Always massively disappointing when a clash of 2 titans results in such a dull cancelling out of each other. Very rarely do they seem to produce a dazzling performance. Seems most teams are measured by how badly they can beat rubbish teams.

Lawl, the match with NK has been on for 5 minutes now, and I only just realized they're playing Uruguay, not Argentina.

Hehe, I did know that, typo.

Or is it possible that after their shameful defeat, the NK team murdered all the SK players and took their places, because no one would notice? :O

:(

That last attempt was so goddamn awesome, but ultimately a failure.

Suarez's goal was pretty gorram epic though, good game however, I admire South Korea's spirit, bad luck guys.

Yeah I was really routing for the yanks towards the end, amazing attitude to the game. Unlucky lads.

Sigh. Thank you all for your kindness and support.

Damn. Oh well. I still have other teams I'm rooting for. Still, good show by the USA.
