Fighting in HL2

Then why did you even post it?

Just being extra mainly.

But also to see if anyone else had been there. If anything that site has increased my interest of HL2.

I disagree Darkside. HL was great game - and very immersive. While the fighting was good enough (for its time), it was nothing special.

(Golden Eye completely blows it away in terms of combat tho - there really is no comparison. Of course HL is better in many any other areas)

HL2 would still be great if the fighting hasn't moved on much since HL - but why have a game that is pushing so many boundries keep such simple combat/reactions (in the e3 videos it doesn't look like the bad guys are being shot - it's as simple as that)

One day there will be a game that has everything mentioned in this thread. Bad guys will react in a multitude of ways - they'll be spun round by a powerful shot to the shoulder, grunt in a convincing fashion and stumble away holding their injured limb. They'll whimper insanely and hide, be gripped by blood lust, beg for mercy (then whip out a gun from their ankle holster :) ) and curse you with their last breath :) 'i'll see you in hell'!

And once this game has come out every other will copy these feautures - we'll all love it and wonder how games got by with without them.

This is was what I was honestly expecting from HL2 - and am a tiny bit disappointed (still can't wait tho :D)

Don't post links to sites that have leak material.

From what i gather, if you do shoot a full shotgun blast into a combines shoulder, if he dies then the ragdoll physics will take over and he will spin around accordingly. But if he is just hit while he is alive, then no he won't 'flinch'. Doesn't bother me too much, though. As i said in another thread, don't scrutinize so much, wait until the game is out then you can complain as much as you want to.

What I noticed was more when gordon is shooting at the combine a floor above him after he set the other one on fire. The combine hit gordon ONCE out of like 7 shots! What's with that? Maybe that was the easiest difficulty level so valve could show off special stuff. Otherwise it would be way too easy.

The hit animations in Farcry were really great in my opinion. They momentarily stopped firing and actually looked like they were hurt.

That's not the point, this isn't about realism (which can easily spoil a good idea).

Games that have had flinching/sounds etc are just far more satisfying and fun to play (I want movie fights, not real life)

(plus i'm sure there is movement when being shot lol - no matter how tiny)

Well you can't incorporate EVERY good thing in game, that's why no game is perfect...

^ sure lans - but these type of reactions should be an obvious addition to any modern shooter (with exception of online play)
