The Ghost - 8/10

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Quite a unique plot line actually, and well paced. It shadows the bigger picture very well until it really matters, although that ultimate bigger picture was a bit weak arguably, which is why it dropped points. The acting generally was superb however, Ewan McGregor's character was 100 believable and I think one of the most interesting parts of the film, he gave him so many elements and perks/flaws. Pearce Brosnan also impressed me a lot, after seeing the Bond films I just doubted whether he could do any other role but he proved me wrong with this one.

So yeh, unique, rather intelligent, and rather a good ending. Soundtrack, however subtle requires a mention too, really set the mood at times. The general setting of the film, and how it was shot was very good too, very minor details for instance the constant fog horn from the lighthouse in the distance I feel added to the overall atmosphere.

Iron Man 2- 8/10

Saw this with my friends last night. I must say, it was a pretty good movie, but there were some plot points that really made no sense, and the main characters
doucheyness really got old about half way through the movie.

Small marathon with my brother;

G. I. Joe - great individual scenes (in particular one that just screams GDI), but crappy overall. They made the Baroness just a regular chick. A REGULAR CHICK. 3/10

The Mist - overall an amazing movie, I especially loved the twist at the end. 10/10

And of course, what's a better movie to watch after The Mist?

Starship Troopers: Extended Edition - best war movie I've seen this year (Pacific's a miniseries). It's awesome. Screw philosophical depth and deep musings about human nature - war movies are about WAR and KILLING STUFF! And there's more than enough of it here.

11/10

How long is the extended edition compared to the regular version?

Did you read the book? It's a pretty good movie, but it doesn't deserve a ten. I love Marcia Gay Harden's performance.

I just love it how the moment you mention you liked a movie based on a book, people come out of the woodworks to demand that you read the book!

Iron Man 2: 8/10.

I didn't think it was nearly as bad as everyone is saying.

Yeah, it was actually very good. Way better than The Book of Eli. But I have to say I kinda liked The Hurt Locker a bit more; you get tired of those movies pretty soon.

Yeah Starship Troopers is absolutely fantastic. But The Pacific? I stopped watching that it was SO boring.

I stopped watching The Pacific too. Too much backstory or elongated sessions of talking and not enough actual action like Band of Brothers.

Its a good series no doubt, but there arent enough solid characters to care about and, well, we've seen it all before.

Maybe Im just getting sick of WW2 series, films and games. Its been milked to death.

I'd like them to do a 10 parter on the German perspective, with German actors. Find a company that had been through it all, follow them from the start and all the way to the end, just like with Band of Brothers. Can show people that the Germans weren't all bastards, there were regular soldiers too, and can show how the soldiers come to terms with the loosing of the war at the end etc.

Hey guys, I'm here to let you know that the last 20 minutes of pt V, as well as part VI and VII are pretty action-packed. Haven't seen pt VIII yet.

Oh my god, it'd be an amazing series.

Still, there are a handful of movies on this subject with a very good story and characters.

This.

It'd be very interesting, especially if it's based on the Eastern Front. The desperation near the end of the war might be something to see.

Problem is, nobody *cough* wants to see Americans dying.

Though it WOULD be interesting. There arent enough movies or series around when the main characters or the good guys lose.

Friday Night Lights is my case in point. A story about
a Texas football team that goes on to the finals of the college football..series...championship...thing, and loses right at the end after a monster of a comeback
.

And people always want that happy ending. It would be watched for sure, but wouldnt do as well in my opinion.

Maybe Im completely wrong and people will be drawn in to see the side that was always going to lose?

Well thats why it should be focused on a group who fought on the Russian front. We've seen loads of films where ruskies get killed, not to mention thats where the heaviest fighting of the entire war took place so would be a lot more interesting. I'd love to see how a certain company coped and fought together as they went through the initial success of Babarosa, and how they handled the massive winter that hit them, how they fought in massive battles like Stalingrad and Kursk etc.

You're a horrible person! Ok I don't really mean that but the twist is just plain ****ing mean. I really enjoyed this film up until the end but I couldn't help but feel like the writer and director just decided to take a shit on the main character and laugh at the audience's shocked faces.

Not really. It fits with what has happened to the characters before and, well, evokes a lot of emotion. Whether it's pity, hate for the writer or shock, it does SOMETHING.

Also, watched Clash of the Titans today. It's a well done action movie. The Djinn Homeboy is my favourite character.

It was OK, and that's about all the good things I can say about it. On the monster scenes it suffers from this obsession they have to make these grandiose overly complicated CGI scenes where it gets to the point you don't even know what the **** is happening.

Example the Cracken's arival with the stupid "let's fly around in circles over the city", and the Medusa fight scene. The only monster fight scene that was done right was the one with the giant scorpions, where you have clear cut scenes and you can see what's happening.

Gung-Ho - 7/10

If you love cars and hilarious 80's awesomness then this movie is for you. Thought it accurately portrayed what Ford, GM and Chrysler(although obviously they weren't in the movie it was some made up american company but still accurate) pretty much were reduced to when they were pumping out absolute garbage and the Japanese were pumping out quality products.

wow...just saw The Mist...What a freaking ending...god dammnit though!!! :(:(:(

The ending was stupid and forced purely for shock value. It was out of character for them to
just end it like that. Why did they give up? "We fought all this way, but now the gas ran out, Oh I guess I'll just shoot everyone." The look on the boys face mirrored my thoughts exactly. "WTF are you doing, guy?"
Silly ending for an ok movie.

At that point, it was a choice between "die instantly with a bullet to the head" or "die a horribly drawn-out death as you're devoured by monstrous creatures". Not really a forced ending.

There was no sense of dread or the end is near. I don't remember if they heard a monster or something, but they sat calm and talked about doing it. It's your kid, don't you think you whould try to save him to your dying breath? No you shot him in the face.

He promised him he wouldn't let the monsters get him. Better he goes out instantly than gets eaten or torn to shreds.

It's not the suicide that bothers me. That's understandable. It's the last little HAHA YOU KILLED YOUR SON AND NOW YOU'RE BEING RESCUED YOU IDIOT that I hate.

Cool Hand Luke-9.75/10

All I can say is that I love old movies like this and enjoyed this one very much.

TBH, I would've liked The Mist a lot more if it focused on the battles going on outside, instead of the religious nuts inside the shop.

It's the last little HAHA YOU KILLED YOUR SON AND NOW YOU'RE BEING RESCUED YOU IDIOT that I hate.

Agreed.

Up to that point I thought the ending was superb. I would have much prefered it had the movie finished with them
driving off into the endless mist after seeing that HUGE crazy beastie - nowhere to go, no hope. This isn't your planet anymore. I could have handled him killing everyone in the car had the movie ended then (although the kid waking up just before getting shot was unnecessary), but him killing his son just before the army comes to the rescue smacks of shocking for shocks sake and did spoil things for me. Good movie that could have had an awesome ending.

I havent seen the movie but it's based on a real story ..well at least the part about GM partnering with Toyota (who were astonished at how shitty GM's working enviroment was)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NUMMI

At the time of its closure, the Fremont employees were "considered the worst workforce in the automobile industry in the United States", according to the United Auto Workers.[4][5] Employees drank alcohol on the job, were frequently absent (enough so that the production line couldn't be started), and even committed petty acts of sabotage such as putting "Coke bottles inside the door panels, so they'd rattle and annoy the customer."[4][5] In spite of the history and reputation, when NUMMI reopened the factory for production in 1984, most of the troublesome GM workforce was rehired, with some sent to Japan to learn the Toyota Production System

I agree completely. The ending of "lol @ audience" was just awful. I didn't "love" the movie to begin with, but that completely killed it for me.

The Human Centipede (First Sequence)

I've seen a number of movies that would be described as "shocking" or "exploitation" : Cannibal Holocaust, The 120 Days of Sodom, Last House on the Left, Ichi the Killer, Hostel, Antichrist, Chaos, etc. So when I heard about The Human Centipede, I was really anxious to see it. Its been a while since I've been really grossed/creeped out, and this movie seemed to have a lot of potential. Sadly, I was wrong.

Just for those of you haven't figured it out by now, the movie is about a crazy doctor (German of course) who literally combines 3 people ATM style to form a "human centipede". The main selling point from the movie advertisements (as well as the director, Tom Six) is that the movie is "100% medically accurate". Not even close. I guess the surgical procedure is theoretically possible, but the director intentionally ignored some simple yet important side effects from an operation like this: coughing and gag reflex. Most people go into coughing spams from just a tiny bit of food or water going down the wrong tube. And people can trigger the gag reflex simply by brushing their tongue. Yet the two girls of the centipede, who are unfortunate enough to have their lips sewn to an asshole, don't even seem to flinch in that regard, even when they are being "fed" (makes me queezy just thinking about it). Plus I fail to see how the last person in the chain would even get any nourishment at all. Normally I wouldn't be so nit picky about stuff like this, but when your main selling point is that its "100% medically accurate", well, it better be accurate.

The story itself was a bit predictable and cliche. Two American girls are on vacation, touring through Europe. They are on their way to a club when they get a flat tire and decide to walk through woods to find help. Really? Through the woods? Why not try to follow the road? Or stay in the car? Or drive with a flat to a gas station? And if nothing else, wait til morning! Its stuff like this that really aggravates me. Sure, the director wants us to get emotionally attached to these ladies, but when half of their screen time is them uttering muffled cries while they're face deep in someones ass, it really doesn't matter.

There are some good things about the movie. One thing would be the lack of gore. It would have been easy to make this movie over the top gross, but Six wanted the idea of the centipede to be the shock of the movie, and in this respect he did well. I also really liked Dieter Laser's performance. He did a fantastic job portraying the sick doctor.

I dunno. I have mixed feeling about the film. The idea of it is sick as hell, and the production is top notch. It pushes boundaries without being too gory or explicit. And yet this movie is filled with cliche's, bad acting (except Laser), and unbelievable events. Plus the ending was just too depressing. I give it a 6/10.

Quantum of Solace - 4/10
Yeeeeeah it wasn't as bad as I expected. Not really memorable in any way, and thoroughly uninteresting plot-wise, but a pretty entertaining Bourne imitation nonetheless.

The Happening - 10/10
The most brilliant and subversive dark comedy I've seen in years.

I mean, unless they were trying to be serious with this. Heh, I'd sooner kill myself than believe that.

It's not the suicide that bothers me. That's understandable. It's the last little HAHA YOU KILLED YOUR SON AND NOW YOU'RE BEING RESCUED YOU IDIOT that I hate.

But thats the whole point of that ending.

The father only had enough rounds to kill everyone else in the car, including his own son, and didnt have another round to finish himself off. And the only reason they did it at all was because they ran out of gas and were still in the mist. Plus that huge walker thing walked over/by them, so all they could think was how ***ked they were.

The fact that the father then gets out of the car shouting for those things to come and kill him, only to have the US military come in to effectively 'rescue' him (although they do seem to just walk right past him...) just adds that desperation angle, and gives you that emotional sinking stomach feel of 'if only'.

I thought the ending was the best bit.

I don't think anyone's arguing that the ending wasn't gut-wrenchingly effective, but once the horror faded it also felt very cheap and manipulative. I can even imagine some people might feel it so cheap that laughter or indignation completely eclipsed any other emotion it was supposed to inspire.

Come to think of it, what happens to the giant walker thing? Does it just wander out to sea and resurface as Cloverfield?

Hahaha. Maybe it was aimlessly and benignly wandering, hoping to inspire a new Pratchett novel.

Quantum of Solace - 4/10

Agreed. Casino Royale was all but a work of genius, and to follow it up with this disappointed me so, so much. Good action, meh everything else.

I too think the ending was kind of manipulative and shallow.
The military ignoring him only served to highlight this and make the whole situation seem contrived and silly. It would have been much more effective if he had shot everyone in desperation and panic, only to find that there is nothing coming for them. No monsters, no soldiers, nothing. Just empty, endless mist, forever.
