Final Fantasy 12

Umm, I've only played like 30 minutes of that game.
Aha! I think I may have found the problem. :)

Man, you are seriously missing out if you only played 30 minutes of Final Fantasy Tactics--its one of the best games ever!! Play it and FF12 more and then see if you really dislike the story as much as you thought at first....

finally finished the game today! :)
level 65-75
the ending was pretty cool, but i'll definately have to play through it again to fully appreciate the plot

QFT

While FFT's gameplay might not appeal to everyone, I still love that game. The story's pretty damn cool and unexpected (back then), quite a bit more violent / political compared to the rest of the FF's. Although I never got the chance to finish Vagrant Story, playing a bit of FFXII it really makes me want to go back to it...

Oh and that old guy with the Excalibur sword in FFT...

Man, I just read this over at Evil Avatar--AWESOME NEWS!!!
Square Enix revealed new details in Final Fantasy Tactics: Shishi Sensou for PSP, in addition to the Onion Knights, the game will also have the job class Dark Knight, and Balthier from Final Fantasy XII, as a playable character in the game. Balthier will play an important role in the game.
Woohoo!! I knew he'd go places!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

And Dark Knight as a job class?? Too cool--now we can all be as over-powered as that onld guy from FFT!!!

Back again

i killed the cluckatrice and found another dinosaurus thing so i killed that too which makes the alpha male of this game:cheese: oh yeah! i havent put balthier in my party cuz i like ashe and penelo there. nothings better when the two chix kick some big butt!

Hm... may be just me but I don't think Balthier is as great as people make him out to be, in fact, none of the characters really strike out to me much. The two characters that I thought were decent were Vossler and Basche, they've got a certain feeling of 'badass' to them.

I would've loved this game a helluva lot more if they kept with the darker tone...

===========SPOILER===============

I just wished they didn't cop out on Basche and had him as the guy who actually assassinated the King AND have the Princess actually die. I know it conflicts with the current plot but dammit I think it has a helluva lot more potential to be great with a darker tone.

Overall the game is damn great, and I love the FFT references, it's one of my favorite games of all time. :) If only they translated that old guy into FFXII... oh and wasn't his job Holy Knight rather than Dark Knight?

Hmm...you may be right, but he always seemed somehow 'dark' to me. Maybe it was just the color of his armor. :cheese:

And I like Balthier because the whole game I was constantly reminded of how much I like Han Solo.

I made a deal so now I'm getting the game on the European release on February 23, looking forward to it. :)

Anything I should know before popping the disc in and playing it, even though its weeks away? :E

Hehe, I think it's Gafgarion (the Merc guy) you're thinking of. :)

I never thought of Balthier that way, but now that you mention it, you're pretty much spot-on.

Prepare to be blown away... twice! It takes a bit to get going (like most RPG's), but once you start getting a full party and a functional gambit system, it really shines into it's own. Has a lot of Star Wars / LoTR influences, and if you ever had the chance to play Final Fantasy Tactics on the PS1, then you'll appreciate the references from that as well (they both share the same universe of Ivalice, but they're very different from each other... and I highly recommend FFT:bounce: ).

Oh and say goodbye to a lot of your time, the game sucks up so much time... but you'll enjoy almost every minute of it ;)

pretty gehy art dir3ection imo.

It's shitty in some places (Vaan comes to mind, but clothing is the least of that character's problems) but overall it's fine. There are impressive looking environments and for the most part I find the fusion of Star War / LoTR themes pretty neat. Oh and some weapons look pretty damn wicked...

Thanks AiM. :)

Last game I spent countless of hours on was Oblivion. Looking forward to FFXII doing the same. :E

i love FFXII but Vaan's voice is incredibly annoying

Bah, I haven't played a Final Fantasy game since the very first, and that's not changing with this one. White magi ftw.

Me too. Then this came out and ate another 100 easy, not including any resets or messing around or anything! I am really hard pressed to decide which one is better. FFXII is better right out of the box, but the open world of Oblivion and the immersiveness of it all(+ mods of course) make it really hard to decide between the two. These two are easily the best RPGs on their respective platforms for this year though. The attention to detail in all of the environments in FFXII is absolutely staggering for this generation of consoles. Enjoy!!!

I will, thanks. :E

The thing I'm probably looking forward to the most is trying out the new combat system. I've watched a few videos when a player fights a creature and it looks really sweet. So glad they got rid of the random encounters, which made it hard for me to really enjoy FFX back when it was released.

Hahaha! Me too! Thats actually one of the hardest things for me about going back and replaying any of them anymore--I hate the random turn-based battles now! I absolutely LOVE the new battle system--biggest improvement for me. :smoking:

Victim of science if ur expecting to beat it with 1 char PFFT good luck fool cuz idk if u gotten this far but.....

SPOILER!!!!!!

There is a monster named Yaizmat which took me personally 8 hours to beat (im not talking about 8 hours of trying.... but 8 hours of 1 continous battle) and i used 3 chars, vaan basch and peneleo all at lvl 99 and max License board... so good luck with 1 char fool

*******SPOILER*********

I need help with this actually.

I'm at the bit when you're on the leviathon and that guy with the silver helmet helps you, and the lasers in the coridoors. I get to the bit where you get attacked by 6 enemies with 2 leaders and they destroy me in about 10 seconds.

What level am I supposed to be to beat this area?

Beat the two judges, when you beat them you win, there is no need to beat the rest of the soldiers.

Oh and use a guide from gamefaqs, this game was built so that you have to use a guide to get the most out out of it, there things you simply cannot know without using a guide.

If you want to I can give you tips on where you can get a high level weapon pretty early, and where you can easly grind for xp, LP and gil(50000 gil per hour of you are as strong as me, 50000 gil every half hour)

Ah, Deathbringer and the Lhusu Mines...good times, good times. :)

Thanks fool. :dozey: That monster is not part of the main plotline, so no need to beat it to win with one character. I know because I already did it a few weeks ago. Check yourself before you go flinging insults around. Thanks.

Yup the Deathbringer, luckly it's far easier getting it in the US version then the japanese. I do not know anything about the Lhusu mines. I get my 50000 gils from the coueri pelts from the panthers in the golmore jungle.

But now that I have a grimoir for the undead I might just focus on the undead in the south of the golmore jungle, they spawn incredibly fast, much faster then the panthers, and they give 900 xp, I could also do the auto level trick, I'm strong enough for it. But though I do not mind being a little overpowered,I don't thing being godly would be fun.

I also just got Zalera, at level 38, I just went for fun at him expecting to be dead in 30 seconds, but when 3 minutes had past I realized I was kicking ass, hell even the mark I originally came for Bloodwing was easy, I found the normal undead enemies far more challenging enemies. But bubble belt and noapoloa( or something like that) helped a lot.

Finally got the game today.

I like it quite much so far, it started a bit slow but picked up the pace pretty quickly. Much better beginning than FFX too.

The new battle system is kick ass good, it feels like I'm playing a MMORPG with all the free-roaming while you're fighting a bunch of wolves. Glad they got rid of the awful random encounters too, no need to worry if the screen is gonna break giving you a heart attack if you take one step too far.

I just got a few grasps about the game though. One is the music is sometimes too loud drowning everything else, it's also pretty monotonous making it a bit annoying. Another is, although it has always been that in the FF games, when not in a cut scene, the characters never talk! I have always found it annoying when you got to read a pile of text popping up on the screen while the character maintains quiet. Luckily, at least so far, the conversations are quite briefly.

I'm about 2 hours in but haven't advanced in the story so much. Would it be a good idea to go out and level up Vaan? I'm just at level 2 at the moment so... yeah. :)

i like what you said about the random battle heart attack :p

anyways, ya, i would suggest "grinding" a bit to level vaan up because you wont have a complete party to play with for quite a while
it'll make things easier

Alright cool, thanks. I thought about it doing it as I right now only got the basic equipment and weapons that you first started with.

Btw, is there any limit on how high I can level up this early in the game or can I just keep slaying enemies and get points for as long as I like?

No, level as much as you like now, though it will be tough to get too high right away I think. The best thing to do is to concentrate on killing loads of little enemies to get your license board going early-on.

Oh, and if you want to ever get the most powerful weapon in the game,
SPOILER: don't open any chests (for specifics on which ones, see a FAQ).

I hav been playing it and I like it

I like to keep all my characters at similiar lvls

EDIT:anyone can give any tips to get more money?

I like to just put my guys on Gambit, and hunt in one large area with alot of the same animals *wolves for instance* and just rack up the chain and get lots of pelts. An hour of that, and you should be loaded for quite a while. Or just hunt areas with the more expensive loot, "Skeletal Bones" and just whore those up. I did that for a while, and got well over 20k on them. Not bad for lvl 17 I thought.

But all in all, I'm having a hard time with some things. Keeping everybody around the same level. It's just too much effort to keep switching back and forth. I wish they would have done what FF7 did, and whoever ISN'T in your party got 1/4 of the experience.

ya its all about killing the same type of enemy to form a "chain"
thhe higher the chain, the better your loot will be

This game pwns! Definitely has it's ups and downs, but when it gets hectic it's damn fun trying to keep it all together. Like when I tried to complete the giant tortoise hunt in the Llusu Mines with all characters around level 15. Went through most of my stock of phoenix downs and hi-potions, but I got him :D

RJMC, a good early grinding spot, for gil and XP is in the Llusu Mines in Bhujerba. After you get to the second bridge with undead popping out of the ground (and no other foes around), start killing those until they stop coming. Then head into the next area and kill the skeletons there just before the tortoise cave, then after a while the ones on the bridge should start coming again and vice versa. Should be easy to build up a large chain since there's no other enemies around, and the skeletal fragments (or whatever) they drop sell for about 180 each.

I got some difficulties taking down the giant wolf (Exblah something, it's the second bounty kill that you can take from the billboard), I tried to lure him to attack only me while his minions stood at the same spot. I didn't work however, I got pretty much overwhelmed and after about a minute I was slain, although I dealt a severe amount of damage to the giant wolf, his health was less than half before I died. Only at level 4 when I tried that though, now I'm at level 6. But is there any tip you guys can spare so I can take down this giant git?

yeah the lushu mines I remnber I got some good cash there

however is kind of anoying to stay in the same place for a long time, thats what let me down in the rpgs, you hav to dedicate much time

I bought the game today but i haven't played it yet. I've got a party tonight so i can't play it, and i've got too much work and another gathering on the weekend.

So basically i bought the game, but i have no idea when i'm going to be able to play it.

Best grinding spot for cash imo is the golmore jungle, just kill those panthers in the northern part, after you kill them, go back to the ozmone plane, where the save is, and further so you are 2 screens away, then come back and kill them all over again.
You will have 50000 in 30 minutes.

Another good spot is the south part of the golmore jungle, just kill everything there and skeletons will spawn, which leave 900 exp per kill, but do not leave as much good loot. You should have something to protect from blind, because they uses it often on you and they can be pretty strong, you should be atleast lvl 29 an have the deathbringer.

You can get the deathbringer in the barheim passage, you can check gamefaq's for the guide, only it's much more easier then in those guides, somehow the nstc version is a lot easier then the Jap version, and you do not need to do all the steps in the guides, like lure the monster all the way to the enterance, you can steal it from where it spawn and then run back.

Also remember to unlock abilities, and mistknacks first on the license board, most technick are useless, accessories become useful later in the game, especially golden armlet.

Getting those overpowered weapons early on kinda spoils the fun though, I didn't do it myself and only got them when I was basically suppose to (strong enough to fight the monsters at the area). I mean, I'd imagine you'd pretty much breeze past most enemies / bosses if you get the Deathbringer / Zodiac / etc. early on.

The instant-death on that sword is absolutely lovely though :p

I'd rather equip the Golden Armlet / Embroidered Tippet and just use a Any - Esuna or Blind - Blindna gambit. :)

Eh, I hated 8, so I am replaying 9..which I don't find much better..but I've never gotten past the first disk, so I'm trying. :(

took me a year to complete 9...only completed it 2 days ago actually. My friend is pissed cos ive had it for so long. I logged about 55 hours on there. Necron is the best final boss ever. I suggest using Freya, Eiko, Zidane and Dagger.

Zidane lvl 62
Eiko lvl 56
Dagger lvl 56
Freya lvl 58

and try to build Zidane's Trance up during the fight with TK....helps a lot.

FF12 looks pwnage but im not sure what to get

Crackdown cos it looks awesome and Halo 3 BETA!!! =O
FF12 cos it looks awesome and i wanna see what the new battle system is like.

If halo 3 was out earlier over here, id get FF12 first but i am not waiting to God damned November when everyone over here will have started playing it but everyone in America had completed it twice on every difficulty....DAMN YOU BUNGIE!!!!!
