first practical, efficient and cheap exoskeleton

Why would it matter how long it took to pack?

Why would you ever take it off?

added bonus ability?

It's why I don't get transformers. If I were a frickin' transformer, I wouldn't be a car, I'd run around as a frickin' robot all day!

transformers are so gay

more info on the exoskeleton

Example: Due to an unprecedented actuation and power delivery technology, an 80 W-hour battery which weighs 1.2 pounds is sufficient to power this exoskeleton to carry 150 pound of load for 21 hours while the wearer feels no load on her/his shoulder

sounds almost too good to be true, but then again it is Berkeleybionics and several already working models.
and besides...my flat mate is a post graduate student that works on battery research and he said that today there are already batteries that have the same charge up time but 3 times the capacity (than li-ion ones), it's just that they are not commercially available yet. and he also said that even more can be achieved in future technology.

This + dragon skin body armor = OMG

The only thing that's left to be developed is an active camouflage system...

dragon skin body armor

Too heavy, too expensive, falls apart in hot weather.

There are much better solutions currently available to the body armour problem, like Troy Hurtubise's Excalibur vest.

But in reguards to the exoskeleton - Groovy. Which, of course, you'd have to say every time you put it on :p

law enforcement could use this, handicapped individuals (making them possible better than us regulars :p) and the military. Just imagine when these hit the commercial market. Work will be so much easier

The best thing about exoskeletons is their versatility. They can be used both for lifting heavy loads, and wrestling xenomorph queens into airlocks.

The cops would have superior models, don't worry. It's for our safety!

How high can you jump with this on?

That makes no sense whatsoever...

Oh noes my bulletproof vest is disintegrating from the scorching heat!11

Why doesn't that make sense? Does a bullet impact a material in the exact same way as heat?

i want one of these with a jetpack so that when i land i don't break my legs

The glue used to hold the ceramic plates onto the vest melts in hot weather causing the plates to fall off thier fixings causing them to fall to the bottom of the vest leaving the chest area and much of the belly without any hard protection, which means a 7.62x39mm (as used in the AK-47) round will go straight through it.

And... what's stoping them from using something else that is heat resistant?

Pfft, Crysis Guy laughs heartly

So. All the terrorists/commies/japs/redcoats/gooks/injuns need to do is fire off an EMP device nearby and watch laughing as the legs and spines of every American bionic foot soldier shatter under hundreds of pounds of weight or lock up solid. Genius.

That exoskeleton is pretty sweet I guess but all its good for is carrying loads. Check out this article from Popular Science. Obviously its still in R&D unlike the ones above but its awesome nonetheless.

whether this is joking or not, is this kind of stuff not moderated on these forums?

His name is Nomad :|

Sense of humour, you guys heard of it?

EMP shielding.

already seen...it's nice, but years behind.

True, but at least its an attempt at producing an Iron Man-like exoskeleton no matter how far behind it is.

umm...i hope you realize that suit is bigger not because they are trying to simulate some kind of power armor, but it's technology is old...that's why they have to compensate.

this HULC exosuit is what happens when a technology gets funded properly...Lockheed martin is behind it i believe. the arms are not done yet, probably because of the added complexity and because they are not really useful for the task of carrying loads. but i believe they'll soon add those and equip them with some heavy firepower and armor.

Yeah I knew the size wasn't because of some power armor attempt, I just meant that its cool how they have the ability to use enhanced arms instead of just carrying loads.

Because they haven't come up with a exoskeleton that accomodates space for biohazard suits (hence time is everything when there is a chemical/biological attack). Offcourse you could forget about the 20 seconds and throw the damn thing to the floor.

No, it's Bruce.

If there's a chemical or biological attack, or even any sort of attack of any kind, there would be little need for unpacking. Hell, how are you going to run away at 10mph burst speed if you pack it up?!

Oh, hi there, you must be new to the internet, welcome...and also, remember the number one rule: Dont take anything seriously...

besides...im sure im not the only one who lol'd a bit. Chris Rock makes jokes about "crackaz" all the time, but no one got offended by that...because its not offensive, its comedy, its making fun of what is otherwise considered wrong, which is a common and normal formula for comedy if you didnt already know.

Rav, next time just say "irony". It fills the 5 char limit.

The Japanese one is superior, lighter and cheaper:

Also, the reason you'd want to remove it quickly is for a firefight. Do you really want to be crawling around and ducking behind cover while in a cumbersome metal frame?

It also fulfills the "Power Ranger"-esque style the Japanese are so insistent upon using.

Love the image name. And you could shoot three times as fast in an exoskeleton! Hell, you could make wise-crack comments and sport a goatee.

... but it wasnt ironic...

His description sounded an awful lot like a definition for irony.

Feedback: They need a pair of rockets at the exoskeleton backpack in order to increase the awesomeness.
