Freedom Tower.

Looks cool, but, $12 billion for a single building? ah well. Glad to see they finally decided on a new design

Danny Libeskind is a good architect, but he bears an uncanny resemblance to the weird short guy on Alley Mcbeal.

I think it looks good. But, we should build the building from Afghanistans money(if they have any). :D

Why exactly?

I'm a New Yorker and if I ever saw that stupid piece of crap in my skyline, I'd fly a plane into it. And Freedom Tower? What kind of stupid bullshit name is that?

I swear, these artists renderings are some of the stupidest, non-functional, pieces of crap I've ever seen. The morons just need to be realistic.

Yup, it almost beats "Freedom Fries" as one of the stupidest names ever invented :x

They are so smart.. Make an even taller one for more destruction..

Maybe the original name was "French Tower".

Or, build an even taller building to show cowards can't stand in the way of progress and free civilization.

I have to agree, though; Why build it from the money of the Afghan people?

But Mr. Polokov, you would be surprised to know that most of the tower was designed mostly by David Childs and bears almost no resemblence to Libeskind's original design. In fact I would have to say the top "spike" is the only element of Libeskind's plan that was left.

Well what I think is that they could show progress and free civilization with something the size of a small statue.. or something..

I think they should build down and not up. Let those ****ers try to fly a plane into my underground city.

Understandable.
But, you have to admit it rox0rz! :D

I like the building :)

I think it does send the right kind of message, that America isn't going to run and hide from the threat that faces us all.

I'm from the UK before anyone says anything.

You do realize the building is only about 70 stories tall, with the top portion containing only wind turbines. If they try to fly a plane into it, the joke will be on them.

*still waiting for kelisis to answer*
And mrBadger sir, that girl in your avatar has a uncannily long neck =)

A smaller memorial may have allowed people to move on, and building another huge tower is just asking for a repeat performance. And $12 billion? Surely that could have been used for something that would benefit everyone?

Yah she does, always bugged me out. (Badgers avatar)

Personally I think that tower is an eyesore, and I'm sure the majority of my fellow New Yorkers would agree with me. And we're the ones that count cause we would have to live with the stupid thing.

I'm a New Yorker, and as far as the design goes, I'd give it a 85/100. It's definatelly much nicer then those other hideous designs. Extra points awarded for being tall and generating 20% of its power needs.

trust me Libeskind will be there milking the credit :dozey:

*Call me a cynical architect

** Yes, her neck is uncanny

Well, I don't live in NYC, but I reckon they should have turned Ground Zero into a memorial park...

tower looks good, definatley fits the skyline perfectly...... just freedom tower....... definatley goes down with axis of evil, freedom fries, ect... in dumbass names GW and company come up with

sometimes I wish I was european :\, however I still like my country (some aspects of it)

Hey, I like(d) you country too. In the 40's-><some year < 40's -> Reagan> it was probably the greatest country in the world in many aspects.

Probably earlier than that also. I just have a soft spot for FDR. Truly a great man for his time.

EDIT: Its foreign policy just sucks balls for the time being. You guys should start a revolution and "de-throne" GWB.

EDIT2: I'm not a conservative by heart, but I CAN somewhat understand people who are traditionally conservative. What I cannot understand is people tolerating, or indeed, at times even cheering, a president who claims to be a conservative and hen goes on to spend gazillions of ooodles of billions of dollars on military might that is not called for.

I firmly believe the American public will eventually see through this. If they don't, the U.S. is a new ancient Rome waiting to happen. And I, peaceful as I am, would vote for a united E.U. army to ensure or try to ensure a less than complete world domination from the side of the U.S.

For the people who haven't already seen this ( u.s. or otherwise):

Oh, in case any of you Europeans think this is a joke (as I did at first) - It isn't.

Disclaimer: This post is not a critique of Americans in general; it's criticizing the current U.S. goverment.

Uhm... the previous WTC towers were just two rectangular boxes. Surely the new design is an improvement.

Well, im not a New Yorker so my architectural critique obviously isnt as 137 as yours, but personally i tihnk it looks good. The way you talk about the tower, you sound like someone who would quite enjoy living in a world where we all wore blue jumpsuits, lived in small hyper efficient housing and worked 18 hours a day, leaving only time for sleep..Wait, isn't that communist China 20 years ago?

On a more serious note, what is wrong with a fancy design? Im tired of all those 60's plain prefabed tower blocks (Theres a lot around the north west of England). I want some nice looking buildings. We have the technology to make buildings that are stylish, and practical now, we might as well use it.

i like the looks....the name is a bit corny.....but i dont really care what its called to be honest.

I think 12 billion dollar would feed a lot of poor ass people.

Building looks nice though, but i wonder what they'll do to it to prevent people from flying airplanes into it.

To be honest...what do you call a building anyway? Tower A and Tower B? Wow....inventive. :)

Actually the name is quite fitting with the stereotype cheesy patriotism of Americans....Remember, i said stereotype

That means its true :p

Joke :)

I think a better name for it would be "The white tower of the bush administration".

Yeah that really has a great ring to it. :p

Seriously, what is the big problem with the tower?

Or they could call it Barad-dur and have the great all-seeing evil eye of John Ashcroft sit on top of it.

The tower itself doesn't bother me, it's that corny-ass name. "Freedom Fries" and "The Axis of Evil", "Patriot Act", "Homeland Security" kind of embarass me. Say what you want about the Bush Administration, but they suck at coming up with names.

LOL :D then Schröder and Chirac must get the nuclear codes back to the US to throw them into the fiery pits of Mt. Washington where they were created.

They could call it "The Half-Hour Tower of Power" and hold weekly game shows/infomercials.

:hmph: I'm getting kinda tired of the united states using 'Freedom' interchangeably with 'American'.
Next thing you know, the entire country's going to be renamed.

There are plenty of other free countries too, Dubyah.

Remember Canada? :D
