I had quite a laugh reading what this guy thinks. To quote another guy on those forums: "Do we really grow 'em that stupid?"
Reading on at those forums I realised the general attitude towards the French was, that they're all sissies, pussies and worthless soldiers. Now this might only have been a handfull of braindead american soldiers, but I do want to know what the americans at this board thinks of the french?

French intelligence...Sorry it just lost all meaning when i got there.

:p

Just like to say, i don'thate the French but i do like a good dig. Don't worry though, as I'm sure many Englishmen will tell you "Its all in good jest" :D

hey, after seeing how fervently you guys supported your football team, we all know how much the english appreciate a joke :)

Wheeey! Li'l Timmy, ladies and gents! He'll be here all week! :)

I don't dislike the French, but every body leaves something to be desired.

The French to me are good people however they are a little too proud of their language for my liking and they strike me as people who are a little to arrogant. Of course every country has their problems so I don't want any one here who is French to think I don't like you or your country.

except Bhutan, of course.
And Turkey, it's exempt because it's named after a sweat ass meat.

Through the history the french have been disliked by quite a few countries.

you mean like every other country?* yeah, that's true.

*besides the kingdom of bhutan and turkey, of course

"French" has almost become a bad word in the States. Jokes about French military prowess have of course been prevelant for years, but lately I've heard some very alarming remarks that aren't jokes or funny at all.

I personally harbor no feelings of the sort.

No, the french from france are not so proud of their language. Maybe they think they are, but they cant say or write a full sentence without an english word.

Im from Quebec, so my first language is french. Here we can almost all speak english, but when we speak french, its only french. Mullinator, maybe your thinking of us, the french canadians, when your saying we are too proud of our language, but the french from france are not. (sorry if this is annoying, were just proud of what we are.)

I have some problem understanding why some americans hate the french so much. The guy from the French intelligence involved in terrorism? thread seems REALLY close minded. Actually I think the only thing he knows about France is what he heard on CNN. its pathetic.

btw, even if I said my first language is french, I am not a French (from france) and I dont feel attacked when some people talk about the frenchs.

generalisation ain't just a river in africa. i've personally run into many french people that don't use any english at all (well, at least not while they are in france).

Am I the only person who thought that changinge 'French Fries" to "Freedom Fries" was both petty, cheesy, and brought forth images of an American flag sizzling like a huge piece of bacon?
Truth be told, I like the joke about changing 'American Cheese' to "Idiot Cheese".

Uh, oh yeah, French Intelligence isn't involved in terrorism... cause... it's not.

BTW, nice avatar Nicrd.

I do find people from Quebec to have a little bit more pride in their language than people from France, however I don't dislike them for it as much since I can understand why they have this pride, I would probably have more pride in my own language if I lived in a country where the majority of people don't know it and seem to try and ignore it.

France on the other hand doesn't have this excuse and yet from my limited experience with them (I went to France for two weeks last year) they still seem to have a needless amount of arrogance when it comes to their language. However one thing I noticed was that I was treated much better when they knew I was Canadian, other times I think they thought I was American and weren't exactly friendly.

Oh, a word of advise to anyone ever going to France who doesn't speak French, people will like you alot better if they see that you try to speak French, you don't have to know anything really but if you can use a few basic nouns and verbs to get your message accross they will like you alot more.

I get real tired hearing about every country hating the United States. If everybody can mock the US, why can't I mock them?

Don't take that literally, I really don't hate the French or another country for that matter. But can somebody explain why its wrong for Americans to bad mouth other countries?

PS - Turkey is not a cool country. Look up the Ottoman Empire.

When everyone else is mocking the US it makes it easy for everyone else to do it and get so much support from others that they find it easy to do and will continue doing it, plus it causes them to change their perceptions of the US in a very negative way.

Naturally the problem becomes worse when Americans see this hate directed at them and (completely understandably) fight back, of course this fighting back often solidifies other peoples beliefs and just makes the problem worse.

Its a major problem and I don't see any end to it any time soon. The most Americans can do is understand exactly why this is happening and work to stop it without resorting to something that will just piss off people further, however it is naturally not easy to do when you see some of the things people say about the US and Americans.

Yeah, the Ottoman Empire isn't very nice.
As for why Americans can't bad-mouth other countries, it's simple. America is a powerful, rich country; therefore they should be above that sort of thing. All us other nations are weak and feeble, so we have to get our kicks somehow. See? Simple.

some americans do more than just bad mouth the france. Of course, a joke is a joke, but the "freedom" fries thing is really weird. I absolutly dont understand the logic of changing the name. If its a joke then I must be too slow to understand it.

I went to france once and I also met alot of arrogant people, especially in Paris. Fortunatly they're not all like this.

Aren't americans the champions of the "anti-american" ideology? Maybe not anti-, but alot of them mock their country more than any other people from other coutries. Just think of guys like Micheal Moore.

I'm French 15 years old, at the age of 7 I went to live to Mexico, I went back some few year to Europe, for English study (Wales is a great country).

Last year I went to France, I don’t see why they should be proud, first the people dislikes everything, then not being racist, the country is full of Arabs.
But the people there is great man, they don't care what close you have, what car, if you a rich or not, and the girls are great man, I mean really great...

I will surely go back for studies, but I refuse to live there until they have a revolution.

Ah, but Michael Moore is a 'Liberal', as the americans call them. (Liberal is a dirty word in the US too, apparently.) He's left-wing, and therefore in the minority of people in the US, who are mostly God-fearing, church-going, apple pie-eating, conservatives. Apparently, to be Left-wing in the US is to be unamerican.
I think fighting the commies way back when did something to the american psyche.

btw, I'm voting NDP :p Muhuhahaha...

Oh, just thought I would point this out. That saying that French girls have hairy armpits? A completely false rumor. I have seen many hot girls in France in the short two weeks I was there and NONE of them had hairy armpits.

what I dont get about americans is that they go on and on about how the french are cowards for not going to iraq, but canada didnt go either and you dont hear americans making remarks about "Freedom" bacon or calling canadians cowards

btw I was tickled pink that our prime minister decided not to join the coalition...I think it has something to do with him being french canadian ...for that I will always be thankful

Yeah man, they are great, dident have to be their boy friends to do something..... I mean I never had so much fun, every day it was something, even in class...

I'm from quebec too, and it's easy to understand why we take so much pride in our language, france is more than 60 millions people, we are 7.3 millions in quebec, surrounded by about 300millions english speakers (usa+canada) so we had and have to fight to keep our language, anyways, i guess were just as patriotic as americans (AFAIK canadians aren't usually as much patriotic as quebeccers or americans).

Anyways, i think france and usa are BOTH arrogant countries, i guess that's why they don't like each other.

It would be much like your own, I'd imagine. :p
actually it's not, compared to the french accent, we'd have the equivalent of the redneck "accent" in the states, lol (i mean, a farmer accent)

And we use A LOT of blasphemy in our speech, but france people don't use it,

Personally I enjoy making fun of the French, not so much because i don't like them, but because I make fun of everyone, Canadians, Brits, Russians, Americans, EVERYONE. Its just what I do for fun, make fun of me! We'll all have a grand old time and war will be abolished! I know... wishful thinking...

Refer to my sig....Anyways I see no problem with the French.Just as long as they don't make fun of my southern accent I won't make fun of theres.

I always liked the Ottoman Empire, it is the only empire you can enter without ever stepping in it. (yet another horrible joke)

I feel the same way about Americans. Some of them, and many of those I've encountered are arrogant sons of bitches. I don't know if it's the culutural difference, but that's sadly how I feel for some of them!

i'm an american. i love my country. i hope all of you love your countries. if you don't, i'm sorry. i don't hate the french at all. i find that many countries are content to try and work out their own problems. 9/11 didn't affect them directly so why get involved fighting terrorism? until france is hated from islamic extremists i sincerely doubt they'll do anything substantial. i envy their position sometimes.

France IS hated by islamic extremist. They had their own share of terrorism long before the states got involved. Just walk around in Paris and youll notice that the public garbages are missing. Why? Because terrorist used to put bombs in them. Its true its been a while since the last attack (more or less 10 years, someone correct me if im wrong).

Also, dont forget that France has been for a very long time in war in algeria, an islamic country. So they had a pretty good idea about how wars with islamic extremist were fought (ugly). Look around for the history of France and especially the war in algeria. You'll find alot of answer (not all) to why they did not want to go in Irak.

Mmmm, Freedom Fries...
I've heard that during WW1 hambugers were renamed 'Liberty Burgers' in the US since they sounded too much like the german city, Hamburg. :)
