Game intros

All of the Half-Life series, except Blue Shift.

Grim Fandango

No-One Lives Forever

I keep meaning to replay this game - and yes, the intro's fabulous. :)

Fixed.

No one mentioned Fallout?

"War. War never changes" - Best phrase ever...

Vice City: TOMMY VERCETTI WOOO!

San Andreas: CJ, OG. And Tenpenny and Pulanski are *bitches*.

Oh man, yeah! Fallout has a GREAT intro.

Also, while being different... I just beat MGS3 for the second time, and I'm morally obliged to say that the ending of that game is f*cking incredible :D

All of the "Battlefield" Games.

Actually, most war games. (good ones)

Can't think of any more..... :(

Definitely DoW.

MechWarrior 3 for sure.
definently, i loved it !

total annihilation
command and conquer (pre generals)*
rise of nations: rise of legends
freespace 2*
killzone*

* - i think these had good ones, can't quite remember as i haven't seen them in awhile.

Agreed.

Battlefield series (just can't beat the music)
Any Half Life game (Episode One notably)
Abe's Oddysee and Exodus (oh man, awesome...awesome games)

Descent 2 Intro and Outro. Decent 1 and 2 have a superb storyline in my book. Descent 1 would have probably had a good intro but it came along too early to even have a 3d movie like intro.

In order -

Half-life 2
Opposing Force
Alpha Centauri
Half-life
BF series
Splinter Cell PC

I thought the intro to Half-Life 2 needed to be more like the lenghty intro to HL1. Sure, it was nice being in the trainstation as the credits roll slowly by, but I wanted more of the city to gawp at. I wanted the train to rumble over bridges, over canals, past slummy buildings, see stuff happening on the streets, etc. But yes, it was ace.
I think of everything up to the apartments as the intro TBH.

Totally forgot about WoW's intro movie. That's awesome.

You mean WoW's 8 different intro movies?

I can't remember >>

I might mention: Black and White (Wee, pretty colours!) Red Alert (TANKS! TANKS EVERYWHERE!)... hmmm. What else? Fahrenheit was pretty kick-ass. But most things I play are open ended and don't really have an intro movie.

WoW, DoW, Probably Warcraft, all the Battlefield games - especially Battlefield 2 - Darwinia's multiple hilarities, Operation Flashpoint's first mission, Hostile Waters and Sacrifice.

I came to this thread with the soul intention of mentioning this gem of a game. Apart from being completely brilliant, the intro rules as well. Damn those suits.
I loved the game but I don't remember the intro. :(

mgs series
Mafia
F.E.A.R
Shadow of The Colossus
Onimusha series
Silent Hill 3

Well, yeah, but I meant as stuff to see. I kinda meant as in the same context of the intro to Half-Life 1, what with you being on the train and seeing all this stuff happen outside the windows.

EDIT: The Resident Evil 3 intro video was awesome aswell. Watching the helicopters come flying down the street as the camera pans to several police cars and SWAT vans skidding into a defensive position as a horde of zombies come stumbling down the street right through to the bloody end of the helmet rolling in the puddle of gore with the car door gently swinging.

Actually yeah, good point. The original RE was cheesy as hell, but it always makes me laugh. The remake intro is just stunning through, espeically with the shoulder-cam of that... ehh.. Joseph guy I think his name was. And the RE:Zero video was cool.

Freespace 1. Man that fires you up

'SEND FIGHTERS! OH MY GOD THEY'RE HERE!'

Wild Arms. Not so much the intro but the manga start has awesome music and is inspiring.

Prince of persia sands of time, the way the intro is also the ending is very cool.

Wing Commander 4

Res Evil 2 has an awesome intro as it's situational, and the way the two slink together is awesome.

Poor Joseph, he always hated dogs :(

The RE:0 one was a bit meh in my opinion...but Rebecca's cuteness made up for the duller than usual voice acting.

half life 1 is the only game i can remember that has a really good intro

HL1, Op4, HL2 definitely (don't remember Blue Shift). The whole FFX intro part was freaking awesome, especially seeing it early on when PS2 was still the balls, blew me away. Can't think of any others right now...

Someone refresh my memory on the Deus Ex and FFVIII openings?

Deus Ex:
Bob Page and Walten Simons talking about the conditions of the people on the streets and the terrorists. They then mention their evil plans.

And that's why I go 'huh?' when people cite Deus Ex as a favourite game intro.

It's two people talking about their evil plans. Tell me something - wouldn't the plot have been rather more engaging/surprising if you didn't know your superior was conspiring right from the start?

As a dialogue piece it was awesome - and you are always wary of Simmons throughout, he treats you with contempt when you meet him
It just struck me as less cliche

Well, it still was pretty cool to find out that UNATCO IS EEEEVVVILLLLL!!!!

I admit it was pretty kick-ass dialogue, but the Deus Ex engine - especially for faces - is so weird I can't bear to watch it. I wonder, though... Deus Ex Source...

Other good intros are Psychonauts. Definantly! PSYCHONAUTS!

It wasn't so much the content, even though the voice acting was well done (especially so, considering the voice-acting throughout the rest of the game). For me, it was the cutting and editing while they talk over the slaughter in Paris etc. It felt just like the intro to a movie before they cut to the intro credits and the title announcement - zooming into Page's eye as he emphasises "...Gods", then bang, you're playing.

I dunno, it's just one of those sequences that makes you remember back to the day when gaming just felt... right. The safety of the training map with Jaime Reyes, Gunther and Anna instructing you, the soothing music (yes, I remember it to this day and still maintain it's the best gaming music ever) as you progress through. Follow that with Liberty Island, and, damn, I just can't express how much I love the game.

Yeah, I can see what you mean. But it didn't strike me as one of my favourite ever intros. :p

Seriously, what happened at the beginning of Urban Chaos?

It's so long ago I don't remember. :(

It's a little sketchy in my mind, but from what I remember it leads in with D'arci chasing some thugs, in which they get into a fight, then those mysterious suited blokes appear and own the place with their minigun pistols. It ends with them throwing a bomb and leaving, panning out to D'arci legging it away and the explosion going off at the stroke of the millenium. I always thought it was pretty cool.

The editing, the camera were all pretty amateurish. It did not feel like a movie at all, it felt especially amateurish compared to the intro of metal gear solid. That intro was carried by the smart dialog compared to other games.

You can think what you like, I think it's a fantastic intro, and by far a better game.
