Game intros

Well, Deus ex's dialogue was on par with MGS's...and that isn't saying much.

The intro to Deus Ex was superb. It set the scene, the mood and it was fantastic.

I disagree, Cam Clark deliverd some fantasticly credible and passionate voicework, and the other characters do not fall that much below him, you could almost taste the betray and arrogance in Ocelot's voice, the fear in Otacon's voice, the shear and utter indifferance in Gray Fox's voice, the dialog in Deus Ex was a lot more flat and cold then it needed to be, it went beyond setting the grimmy mood, it gave the characters less emotion then was good for it's own sake.

I completely agree, the voice work in MGS was superb. Deus ex's dialogue was indeed, at times, flat. Not everywhere though. MGS dialogue is not that great, and Kojima really needs to work on it - because it is one of the only things that pulls MGS down. It's not terrible, not by a long shot, but it is far, far from fantastic.

You disagree?

"Yeah, I mean, MGS has awesome dialogue."

Dialogue?!?

"Erm...yeah. Hideo Kojima and all."

What?!? HIDEO KOJIMA?!?!?

Actually, I think Samon's got a point about MGS dialogue.

In all seriousness of seriousness though, it's really pretty...well, not good. :p
There is far, far worse out there mind.

- Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of liberity
- chronicles of riddek

My friend is always trying to convince me that MGS has MINDBLOWING dialogue, and the best plot EVER CREATED. Having played them a great deal, I can safely say that the plot is pretty cool, but the dialogue is pretty awful at times.

That said, I really want to make a drinking game where you do a shot every time Snake repeats something in the form of a question.

Jesus christ, do you have a coma fixation or something?

I'd say a better drinking game is to play MGS2 and whoever loses track of what the hell is going on has to chug. That may not yield any better results, however.

DoW's CG intro is great, and so it's HL's tram sequence.

I thought the intro to Half-Life 2 needed to be more like the lenghty intro to HL1. Sure, it was nice being in the trainstation as the credits roll slowly by, but I wanted more of the city to gawp at. I wanted the train to rumble over bridges, over canals, past slummy buildings, see stuff happening on the streets, etc. But yes, it was ace.

Me too!

I was expecting an odd citizen or two to jump over walls, whilst being chased by civil protection, along-side your train

Pretty much the whole sequence without a gun was an intro sequence. I rather enjoyed it.

The only thing with the dialogue is they don't really talk like normal people. They speak in monologues.

Wipeout games. ones when the intro's were made by designers of the republic were good to.

I like almost everything listed so far, but I am surprised noone mentioned
Parasite Eve.
I also like Breath of Fire 4 and the original TMNT for NES.

Final Fantasy VIII, nuff said.

Also unforgettable.

I stand by Psychonauts, though. WHO'S WITH ME!

*waits*

I love psychonauts, it's with mgs my favorite game of all time. Now the intro is nice, but nothing that special IIRC. I mean it's just Raz falling in to the meeting at the campfire and acting overly exited. All executed nice, with nice visuals, dialogue and acting. But not something that really stands out, nothing that sends chills trough my spine. It's sets the mood very good though.

For me it's have to stand as DoW, BF 'Narm and any of the C+Cs for a CGI intro.

But any of the Half Life's are awesome for an in-game intro...

I'm trying to find a computer version of Freedom Fighters, loved that game when i was playing it on a mate's PS2 when he rented it. But i can't find it anywhere - anyone want to mail it to me?

Any cinematic in any Blizzard game!
WC3 definently had some good ones.
Starcraft just friggen amazing. Every single one. Diablo 2's....wow. The start to Diablo 1....very nice. Blizzard is so damn amazing.

Dungeon keeper 2. It sets the scene for the rest of the game perfectly, its not entirely serious and the good guys get thier arses kicked but a big red deamon and his mates.

Jagged Alliance 2: Urban Chaos. Sets the stroy perfectly, AIM lies broken, its members scattered across the world, but there is hope, maybe liberationg Danubia will revive AIM to its former glory. And it has an exeptionally cool end line - "My destination: Danubia. My mission: Urban Chaos..."

Brood War - the best intro to any Blizzard game. Ever. (Or until Starcraft 2 [remains quietly hopeful that it will come, one day...])

MIA - Flying into the 'Nam and the closing line "Freinds in low places had told me Vietnam was like going to hell, sure looks beutiful though..."
