Game of Thrones thread with lots of books spoilers inside spoiler tags

I am on the third book, I have brought this up to my friends, and no one else seemed to care or notice-

One of my favorite subtle things in the book is when Jaime talks briefly with a young boy who is using a crossbow. Jaime hates archers, and tells the boy a crossbow is a weapon for the weak. He tells the boy he should learn some melee weapon.

When I read that part I thought that was so excellent, because Joffery only uses a Crossbow. I thought it was a great and subtle way to show contrast between father and son without having to pair the two characters in conversation with one another.

Character featurettes for Joffrey, Dany, Renly and Jon:

A large amount of never before seen scenes.

Looks like HBO has invented its own subplot, with a triangle-drama between Renly, Loras and Margaery. Renly and Loras' relationship was only hinted in the novels, I don't really see the need for them to flesh it out this much. It's not like they're gonna have problems filling the 10 episodes as it is.

Ha, as if HBO would make a show that didn't have at least some gay sex in it every season.

Good, its about time companies start going all out to promote good shows. Now if only other stations would follow suit so we stop having shows like Arrested Development and Firefly cancelled well before they aught to have been.

Another trailer:

Can't wait to see Arya's storyline. Thank God they found a great young actress for her, because something tells me it's a hell of a demanding role.

Why would anyone watch through those? It premieres in a couple days and you'll have watched half of it already.

so this is TONIGHT! gdsubvsdhbdb YES!

actually technically this is tomorrow for me but still, so close

Just four hours until the premiere airs! So excited :D

Tonight's episode was 9 hours too short. I almost regret having read the book beforehand because I'm sure the ending would have been more climactic had I not known what was coming.

HBO seems to be on the right track. The ending with them killing Robert's bastards never achieved that much suspense in the books, I liked it.

spoilers for episode one up ahead. what's the new consensus on spoilers from here on out? are we just going to go with tagging them regardless, or shall we go with the ''not watched it don't go in the thread'' mentality? either way, heads up!

that was so, so good. a little rushed perhaps, but man the sheer joy of having this show back... did anyone else feel that particular feeling of joy? an emotion, rather, at having all of the characters back on the screen? i always love it when a show comes back on the air - be it recently with mad men or beforehand with breaking bad - but this, this felt different. tyrion strolling into joffrey's tent, jon and the watch approaching crastor's, robb and his demeanor at the camp, dany and her progess, or her otherwise helpless situation... it was all such a epiphany of pleasure to me. arya and gendry at the end too was incredible, and it was just them getting into the back of a wagon going through a country lane! super stoked to see more of them next week and hopefully some more davos and renly stuff.

the bastard killing was a very bold move, i thought. perhaps too bold? either way, i am so going to be watching this again later tonight, or after mad men at least.

I'm not able to watch this episode until thursday :(

Is it weird that I still don't want to open the spoilers, despite having read all the books? (well, im still like 100 pages away from finishing the last one) Its like, I know whats going to happen this season, but I still dont want to know whats going to happen in this episode.

For this very reason I read a book after the end of each coresponding season.

I think it's best to keep spoiler tags and state which episodes you're spoiling. That said, I think season one/book one should be fair game now but any book two discussion should only be to compare it to the TV show. This thread was created specifically to have a safe place to discuss the show without book spoilers so don't post about what's upcoming any more. Please?

I know piracy is not allowed to discuss here, but I'd just let ya'll know that episode 2 has been leaked to the internet, in fairly good quality

yeah i'm going to watch episode 2 today. i'm away next monday for a couple of days to a place with no internet (these places do exist, surprisingly), so i've no quarrel with watching it now. i've already watched the first episode twice anyway so i'm desperate for more.

god bless you hbo go.

It's cool how many of the locations I can recognise despite the hefty sfx used to change them.

the new setup for king's landing is particularly impressive. joffrey's perch looked incredible, and that pan over the red rooftops during tyrion and shae's conversation was awe-inspiring. i've watched some of the behind the scenes videos showing that actual town (somewhere in croatia, was it?) and it looks like they've barely changed a thing, but it still looks amazingly like how i imagine king's landing to look. they've really knocked the ball out of the park on going for big this season.

Oh that makes me excited in general and for a particular reason.

This was a good post.

I'm glad they're splitting it into multiple seasons. I certainly dont want them to rush through anything, and it makes the most sense really. They get more seasons to sell, we get a better paced show. I'm just stoked that the show is doing so well that they're comfortable making this decision as it bodes well for them being in it for the long haul.

it's at that point now where no matter how good the first two episodes were, the trailer for the third looks like things are really going to start ramping up and then eventually, the trailer for the fourth will continue to raise those expectations and so on. basically: the hook is in and not letting go anytime soon.

next episode trailer spoilers (read if you've seen the trailer, i guess?):

cannot wait for tomorrow for some renly action. he is basically teased at in the first book and first season, there must like 10 minutes of the guy tops, so i'm super excited to see him some more.

spoiler regarding above spoiler and regarded events from a clash of king:

... or at least, i'm looking forward to him being around for at least an episode or so. episode four for the asassination, perhaps?

I thought episode three was by far the best of the season. I loved almost every part, except for Shae, who can't act worth a damn. Alfie Allen is really brilliant as Theon. Didn't pick up on it much in the first season, but now he's really showcasing his talent.

spoilers for season 2, episode 3:

yeah, theon is really starting to shine as a character now. backbencher for season one, he's going to take a proper spotlight from here on out. his transition from the northern clothes/groomed curly hair to muddy, tattered hair in pyke uniform/gear during the blessing was incredible. guy is so gaunt.

loved seeing a bit more of renly, and brienne is pretty ****ing spot on - massive lass! imagined her a little more rough spoken, but i think her voice might of been her one womanly feature in the books, or at least more so than the rest of her. might be wrong there though, it's been a while since i read her opening description in a clash of kings.

tyrion and the pycelle was most amusing, too. bronn just cracks me up everytime in this.

yoren's death was pretty boromir like but that was a good scene, especially the chat with ayra beforehand. lommy's death was just as horrible as it is in the books, even more so seeing it. sad shit. don't even hear the blade going in... /shudder

good episode!

One hour an episode and only ten in the series really isn't enough to get everything in now the story is branching so much, still loving it though.

Aw man, they've compressed things so that we'll get no awesome moment of "How many, how many, how many, how many, how many, how many? Is there gold in the village?".

And half the list will be missing.

Don't fret, The Tickler has been cast for this season (Antony Morris), and in the episode 4 preview below, there is clearly a torture scene involving Arya, either at Harrenhall or on the way there.

They've just rearranged a few things. :)
