I've been through tons of gaming mice, currently on a Deathadder

All of my mx518s have died due to the cord eventually getting owned (for whatever reason) and it would flash on/off, effectively being useless, but the deathadder's design seems to have fixed that problem (not sure why, had mine for 6~ months now and it seems to be fine. My mx518's died after 4~ months usually)

I couldn't stand the G5 due to it's negative acceleration (I use a low sensitivity), so that didn't work either D:

But yes, gaming mice make a HUGE difference. I would seriously never play an FPS ever again if I didn't have a gaming mouse like a mx518/deathadder etc.

EDITED CAUSE MAKING POSTS AT 1AM FOR ME DOESNT REALLY WORK
I think I know what you are doing. You aren't giving enough slack perhaps. I go to my brothers house and he has the cord routed the wrong way and so he only has about 2" to move the mouse before the cord is pulled tight. Really annoying, cumbersome, and apparently, not good for the mouse.

easy to fix a bad cord. salvage a cord from a $1 mouse, or even better, open your mx518 with a mini screwdriver set and try to fix it. i know i could fix it.

anyway, the mx518 has a really light and flexible cord, it's one of the advantages so you don't even notice that it is corded.

There are a few advantages I have not considered, if there were mice that weren't a ridiculous price I'd consider using one when I next build myself a gaming rig.

Edit: The mx518 is not very expensive at all!

My low-mid end logitech mouse I'm using at the moment is brilliant, good shape and weight, very precise etc.
The ONLY thing I can complain about is the relatively annoying cord.

Logitech G7. It's Awesome.

Don't get sensitivity and speed confused. Gaming mice are more precise, what mouse speed settings you use are totally up to you.

Ohh, i always thought that they were more touchy to have a better response time. Thanks for that snippet of info.

Razer Lachesis here, ****ing brilliant.

No, but what difference is it to a mouse I'm using now?

Does it play the game for you?

This kind of attitude irritates me but then I realise opinions like this mean jack to me when I compare 50 different mice on any given day and notice a massive difference when I get back home.

Also registry changes for mouse acceleration;

If it's anything like the standard mouse I used to use, then the improvements are increased comfort, responsiveness and function. Using a standard mouse like using a third party controller for a console. You can play the games, but rarely is it as good as the proper one.

No, but what difference is it to a mouse I'm using now?
I used to think the same way. Then I took a leap of faith and it was worth it.
The lower price tag helped too, as great as the mouse is, $30+ is out of my willingness.

Whatever you do, don't get the G7. It is the crappiest mouse ever. After about 2 months the battery spans for about a day before you need to swap it out.

I don't know if you would consider the mx510 a gaming mouse, as it's just a decent one with some extra buttons for fun. If it IS, then I'd say reset my answer to I own one. Otherwise, I said I don't see the point, as every mouse that costs more than $10 worked just the exact same for me as the others, including gaming mice. I tried the MX Revolution, and I guess that would be a Gaming Mouse, and I didn't see any extra benefits, other than the faster movement...which can be fixed with sensitivity changes.

*EDIT* and sea, my 15 dollar walmart mouse on my other PC lets me do that exact same thing....I think people just hear the term "Gaming mouse" and just fall head over heals with it.

I don't really play many games. I just like the gaming mice because I like the highest accuracy with the highest speed. The higher resolutions you use, the higher the mouse speed you are going to want.

If you don't know, just read about it. Increasing the mouse speed in Windows OS, the mouse cursor just skips pixels to increase speed. however, this destroys precision

I like to be able to move from one end of the desktop to the other as fast as possible, and land right on the exact pixel I'm aiming for.

And on that, I can't stop thinking I might order the Deathadder any minute.

cheap mice can be made fast, but many of them - if you move the mouse really suddenly (acceleration), the mouse looses track and skips the mouse cursor around screen erratically or just stops. (tracking error) If not that, the mouse cursor will slow down, even though you are moving faster. (negative acceleration)

please correct me if I'm wrong on anything, I haven't read up on this stuff in a long time.

Yeah, the 'gaming' mice will do really well with people, because they are by default fast. But really, I've never had a problem with going into, say cs, and typing "sensitivity 3" or whatever. I mean, most pro games don't have fast resolutions, they usually have to slide the mouse around quite a lot to get to people. They are just so accustomed to it, they can do it real easy.

i enjoy gaming mice more for comfort then anything. that can come in handy after long periods of playing.

The sensitivity doesn't matter so much on gaming mice as does the fact that it can handle fast movements (at least for me) - I'm a fairly low sens user for the games I play (a full swing of my mouse pad = around 270degrees) so my mouse needs to be able to handle it. With the G5, I was inconsistent in aiming due to the fact that it has negative acceleration at high speeds. Basically, just find a mouse that works for you, I doubt many people are going to need a gaming mouse like I do, and especially not if your mouse works fine as it is.

It's not the extra buttons I'd be interested in on a gaming mouse, just the extra sensitivity. If I move my current mouse insanely fast the cursor barely moves 100 pixels.

It doesn't cause me any problems during FPS games since I rarely have to move it fast, even when turning 180 degrees.

I Have the Logitech MX518. I cant get this thing to lose track, and i'm a ninja. I mean it. I can swing this thing across the mousepad at speeds that you can't even see, and th mouse cursor follows

Unfortunately it hurts my hand. Maylbe I'm getting arthritis or something. (and my eyes - it's ugly)

The deathadder looks better and more comfortable. + it is better.

The Deathadder's just a treat to rest your hand on. It has this matte coating which feels luxurious.

I recently disabled mouse acceleration in Vista via the registry fix and my God; I thought the difference would be minor but it feels fantastic now. Mouse acceleration always gave me stuttering movement when I would make small movements, but now it's smooth as silk at any speed.

I don't mind mouse acceleration any more. Once I got used to it, it really helps when using low sensitivity because I don't need to move my hand as far then. So like when turning 180 degrees around or 90 degrees to aim at an enemy to my side. And since movement with a low sensitivity/dpi mouse setting translates to just a small distance on the screen, the amount of jerk or 'error' that mouse acceleration adds is very little. (not really error, just difference between how you expect the cursor to move and how it moves with mouse acceleration)

I would think the higher sensitivity and DPI you use, the more noticeably off mouse acceleration is compared to where you wanted it to move (if you are not used to it). And if you are spinning 360 degrees with just some small movement on your pad (high sensitivity) then you don't need any help from Mouse Acc. in doing so. 1:1 movement would definitely be best then.

so I've been thinking about getting the deathadder. I think my mx518 is giving me arthritis

so i was in town job searching today, and I picked up a high gain antenna for my wireless card.

Then I went into Circuit City to compare the prices of the antennas and saw that they HAD THE DEATHADDER.

FOR $20
. CLEARANCE.

:D

it was sold out and they aren't getting any more in.

BITCH

Ah man ouch, so close.

That would've been enough to push me over the edge. Well done on having better mental health than I do.

It's pretty cheap on the internet these days anyway, if you can find the right site.

Deathadder - way to go.

Although I'd possibly recommend against getting a gaming mouse. There's little I can do anymore, but it totally spoilt me for other mice. I find myself finding other mice far less comfortable or harder to use. I can't stand the mouse I use at work. The luxury that comes with the Deathadder comes at a price.

Iv only owned Gaming mice.

First it was the mx300 for years. Probably went through 4-5 of these mice.
Then i got the mx510 used that for a while. Probably went through 2.
Then i upgraded the the mx518 and went through about 3-4 of those.
After using the 518 for a while i went ahead and tried the G5 (1st time i upgraded a mouse while the other was still on the market.
It wasn't as good as the 518 but i stuck with it because of the feel and the weights. Went through 2 of these.
I started getting sick of the precision finally when i saw the G9 in a store. So i picked it up. The feel is no where near as good as the 518/G5 but its precision is insane. Stopped using weights to make it lighter and i use the ruff or smooth skin. Depends on how i feel and the game. :p

So ya G9 right now. Its 100$ tho. Id be the 1st to say its a rip off but ya.

How do you go trough so many mice. I used a mx510 for like 3 years and now a deathadder for almost a year and both still work fine.

I do a lot of gaming i guess. Back in the day it was intense competitive cs was insane. Not to mention the mx300 and mx510 had problems. Every single mx300 died in exactly 1 year.

That is a lot of mice...
(mx300 isn't a gaming mouse)

The MX300, MX500 and MX700 were released at the same time. But the MX300 didn't have the forward/back buttons or a new body design like the other two. And if I remember correctly, the wheel was not as good either. It was the value option and handled like older logitech mice (regarding the shape, not the sensor).

And back then mice were not made as 'gaming mice' anyway. Wasn't until like the G5 were they had non-software features specifically for gamers (dpi switch, weights)

I still can't get over that he had 11-13 mice and is like 17

I will never lend him anything

haha
I've only had one mouse break on me and it was an old MS explorer. The sensor stopped working, didn't break the cord or the solder points. The old PS2 ball mice I used to use still work.

my Mom broke two of my cheap mice, so I convinced her to get a $5 Rosewill. She likes that one

I think I only broke one mouse, and I've been using them since like 1982 on the Atari ST home computer.

The one I broke was a MS intellimouse explorer as well. The right click stopped functioning half the time, causing me to have to press it really hard repeatedly. very frustrating.

I hated those ball mice. Had to clean the crud off the ball all the time though. Mouse moving erratically? must be time for a cleaning.

I said it was one of the 1st mice "gamers" used a lot. There for to me its a gaming mouse.

I really hope your not talking about me.

I'm like compulsive when it comes to taking care of things.

What about when gamers preferred other specific models before it? D:
And don't you think most of the people who used a MX300 were not gamers (considering that it was the lowest priced logitech mouse of that generation).

I've had a lot of mice. Even when I take care of them, I seem to get unlucky... the more they cost, the quicker they break apparently.

I had one break during a tense CS match where it was just me and a T left. For some reason it just stopped recognizing the mouse and caused me stand up instead of crouch, then tab me out with an error. When I got back, I was dead. I got AWPed to the face. My clan members were not amused. It was an older Logitech mouse that raped batteries, but it was new back then. Had to send it back.

I also had a Razer Diamondback break during Sapphiron in Warcraft, causing me to wipe a raid of 39 people by pulling prematurely. Ran right into the room into the jaws of the dragon. The coord gave out, which I was able to salvage, but it broke again a few months later.

Now I just use a Logitech G9, which isn't too bad. Hasn't broken yet at least. I mostly get it for if I snipe in games, because that's the only time I notice the "quality" of a mouse. It's just a benefit if it works smoother in Photoshop and other games as well.

Did anyone else fit the description of a kid - 17, with about 14 broken mice?

How many times did your momma drop you on the head?
