Since you seem to know so much about developmental psychology I will talk to you in terms you can understand. What you are talking about is called classical conditioning. It means that if B always occurs whenever there is A, the mind of the animal associates A with B. Beat your cat half to death whenever he pees on your counter and you will see how it stops doing it. The cat didn't arrive at the "logical' conclusion that he can't pee on the counter because it's wrong. The cat won't do it because its mind associates peeing on the counter with a beating. It's more of a reflex than a logical process.

The problem with your argument is that they have good enough understanding of the world around them to comprehend the concept of object permanence (something human babies don't understand), they grew out of the stage in which they interact with the cats in the mirror (also like humans), they know that they only get in trouble if they get caught (another thing children don't learn usually for a couple of years), and they know their actions have physical consequences (again, babies have to learn this)... and that's not even getting into "controversial" things like their social networks, emotional attachments, etc. Also, cat biology is so similar to that of humans that cats are used to teach medical students... and their brains (like many mammals) closely resemble the structure of ours. In short, it's arrogant to assume that we are the only beings that don't act purely on instinct... almost like thinking that Earth is the center of the universe or that it is the only one supporting any form of life out of the mind-numbingly massive number of planets in existence.

Anyway. There are studies which sugest that while it is possible to be activly bisexual that bisexuality in the sense of being attracked to both genders does not exist and bisexuals are mearly willing to sleep with either. Just tought I'd say that.

I have 2 gay friends and a bisexual one. I'll tell you, it's not a choice they make. I had to write a paper on homosexuality in high school, and basically i turned it into an interview with one of my gay friends, got a 102%. Hating people on something they have no control over is the same as hating somebody because they're black.

Here's where somebody comes in with the "My friend used to be gay but because of god/alcohol/psychology/support groups he was able to overcome his evil ways!" Well congratulations! He's obviously a very confused individual, because a gay man turning straight is about as likely as a straight man (you) turning gay! It's a two way road buddy, just because being straight may be more socially accepted or 'more natural' doesn't mean people will, over time, 'fall' back into place (being straight).

Now as far as I know they haven’t found a ‘gay gene’ so I’m going to assume there isn’t one (gasp). My belief as to why people are gay is the same as to why some people have a fear of the dark or of horses. Childhood experiences, I’m not saying gay guys were raped by their fathers or forced to read playgirl, but maybe their mother gave them a flower and they really liked it, or maybe they found a cosmo and decided that it was important to learn ‘101 ways to give better blowjobs’. Obviously these are horrific and atrocious examples, but that’s to due to my lack of creativity/intelligence.
