WINNENDEN, Germany ? A 17-year-old gunman dressed in black opened fire at his former high school in southwestern Germany on Wednesday then fled in a hijacked car, killing at least 15 people before police shot him to death, state officials said.

Triggering a land and air manhunt, he hijacked a car, freed the passengers and drove about 25 miles (40 kilometers) before police found him. When confronted, he killed two bystanders in a shootout with police before he was slain,

the last mass shooting at a school in germany was back in 2002

how long before video games are blamed?

...oh and for the gun nuts:

19-year-old Robert Steinhaeuser shot and killed 12 teachers, a secretary, two students and a police officer before turning his gun on himself in the Gutenberg high school in Erfurt, in eastern Germany.

Steinhaeuser, who had been expelled for forging a doctor's note, was a gun club member licensed to own weapons.

no amount of gun control laws would have prevented that except one: complete ban on guns

Only in America!

Oh wait.

Counter-Strike!

They should make a MMORPG where you could be an ex-pupil that had been expelled or a teacher (most likely will die).

That actually gave me an idea.. An RTS but in a playground, and you and another child have declared war, and you must build like sandcastles and big wheels and pogo sticks and stuff, and you can find ice cream cones as power ups or something.

That'd be cool.

School shootings really suck. Deeper causes need to be addressed though, not blaming things like games, which aren't going to be origins of motive except in the most rare situations, and typically if they are a motivator it's for doing non violent things like stealing cars or some shit.

i can't believe there are still animals amongst us. when will we evolve dammit!

Yeah dehumanise the guy and dismiss him as an 'animal', I'm sure it'll make you feel better. Doesn't mean it's true though.

its not animalistic to kill someone else for pure enjoyment??

Some animals do toy with their food and sometimes kill it without actually eating it. House cats do this from time to time.

Why always black? Its so cliche. If I was going to carry out a mass shooting I'd dress in something much more flamboyant!

but anway, this is indeed very sad, may those who died rest in peace.

...oh and for Stern

In the 2002, 19-year-old Robert Steinhaeuser shot and killed 12 teachers, a secretary, two students and a police officer before turning his gun on himself in the Gutenberg high school in Erfurt, in eastern Germany.

Steinhaeuser, who had been expelled for forging a doctor's note, was a gun club member licensed to own weapons. The attack led Germany to raise the age for owning recreational firearms from 18 to 21.

Do pay propper attention to the source, old chap.

thats honing hunting skills. you cant really say that about humans.

not as many people hunt their own food anymore. I certainly wouldnt murder a chicken kiev with a crossbow

Like the pink shirt approach to arm wrestling? Intimidate your opponents. lol

But I do feel bad really joking about it really. These people died in such a tragic way. If it were one of the members of this board that were involved I would feel deep and horrific loss, truly.

Yea that's totally reasonable. Meanwhile 100 million other gun owners DID NOT KILL ANYBODY THAT DAY.

edit *cough*

100 trillion?

We're not talking about Alien gun owners dude!

100 million? that's more than the entire german population ...methinks Eejits is correct; there must be an extraterrestial element to this.

even before this law it was illegal for him to possess firearms; he's 17 ..it wasnt however difficult for his father to get firearms:

the attacker's father belonged to a gun club and owned 16 guns, one of which was missing.

I'm sure it wasnt the first time the kid used a firearm

how long before video games are blamed?

6pm today on BBC news. An interview with an 'expert' revealed that 'computer games or other such abnormal pursuits' is usually the pattern with this kind of mass murderer.

Ah, how very sad. School shootings bother me deeply. I have a sort of morbid fascination with them though, particularly with trying to understand what drives people to do it, and I've been reading through the released journals and notebooks of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold recently.

I guess by the sounds of it he shot the kids who ratted on him over the forged note and then all of the staff. Nasty for sure...

The thing that makes me angry the most about people blaming video games for murders and crap is that for me , games relieve stress and anger and most people I know agree. In fact most of the time with school shootings and things the shooters are either mentally unstable or have simply been pushed way over the edge by things such as bullying.

Occording to Strehler, the theory of morality - would play some part in this German shooting. Which raises the question. Are some individuals' pre-genetically exposed to kill?

What if they are? What difference does it make- you can't just dispose of humans because their genetics don't match up to our standards.

It is true, upbringing does plays a significant part; but look at people who have Psychosis. Many studies have shown, that people who have the condition come from a caring family. Surely then genetics clearly do affect morality.

if you have a family history of mental illness, there is an increased chance of it happening to you also.

What a wonderful analytical mind you have.

"before police shot him to death, state officials said."
Yeah what, they're going to ****ing shoot him to life?

They could have shot him to injured -.-
