WASHINGTON — Plans requiring passports from people entering the United States don't pass muster with President Bush, who has ordered a review of this border security (search) effort amid fears it would impede legal travel from Canada, Mexico and other U.S. neighbors.
This is really bugging me. Thoughts? People always say Bush is such a huge conservative... what a crock of shit. He's as liberal as humanly possible, his actions prove it.

First and foremost Bush is a corporate tool, so obviously he's concerened if his big business Republican donors are upset about this new law. It would certainly end up costing businesses money, and that's a bad thing as far as Bush is concerened.

I dont see the point in this. They are saying, you dont have to show your ID... but you do have to some some other type of photo ID... so you might aswell have your passport on you. I dont see the point in them putting this forward, or how it'd speed things up because your ID will still need to be checked. Just seems stupid to me.

Its the principle rocker. He's not doing shit to help secure the borders. I'm just using this as an example.

No the issue is this. Only very few Americans get passports. But loads of americans love to travel to Mexico and Canada. They use their Drivers licenses as ID.

If Bush makes everyone get a passport to do that - he will make a lot of people very upset, as it costs 100 bucks or so and is a massive hassle. So thats what he is worried about, rather than anything particularly about border policing.

The customs officials and border patrol look for a 'foreign accent' and sometimes ask were u born in the USA. If you say yes, they have a computer that can look you up on the spot. I came back from Tijauana with a friend of mine, who is as American as they come, can trace his family back well before the civil war, family has all sorts of civil war memorabilia around. He lost his wallet and was saying 'my family fought in the civil war, don't tell me im not american etc' and they looked his details up on the computer, DOB Soc Sec and so on, and let him through with no ID.

wow, I can only hope that someone you consider to be a huge conservative never takes office.

just becuz hes to stupid to secure the boarders,
That doesnt mean hes a liberal.

As I say, its not about the borders, its about upsetting people who dont want to get passports, that is American citizens. If you look mexican, citizen or not - they are gonna put you through the ringer to cross the border.

Or its so Buch can slip over the border easily to Mexico when people realise he's criminaly stupid and come after him :p

It's about sixty dollars for a passport, plus the picture taken at CVS. Lasts you ten years. Takes about two weeks to get one after applying. Not much of a hassel, but still like ghost said, the concept.

If you want to go abroad you need a passport. Unless you trust your neighbouring nation implicitly, like some European countries seem to.

lots of canadian terrorists fj33r

well.. there are some terrorists that hijack the immigration, and become Canadian citizens, but that doesnt make them canadian terrorists.

say they came from Saudi Arabis for example, i would call them Saudi arabian terrorists, when the news insist on calling them Canadian terrorists.

off topic, but where are all the mods, i need to ask something

The Canadian government is also confused why the US is doing this. The Canadian governent says that if Canadians need passports to travel to the USA then the government will have Americans to show a passport as well...it's only fair.
