lol they're releasing a demo in the same week they release patch 3 which fixes nothing but actually caused a major memory leak issue???

Best of luck, sir. :)

huh they released a new patch? I thought the memory leak was from the retail copy ...they havent fixed it yet? read somewhere that there's supposed to be huge patch right before NA release ..is thta what you're refering to?

Nope, there have been 2 main patches and a coupla small fixes so far, mainly to fix crash bugs, but this is just scratching the surface and most of the devs are on vacation anyway. Some people with real low end machines are getting great performance while others with high end rigs are not even able to start the game. Maybe you'll have no trouble with it, but if you get it from Bugs-r-us like a lot of people out there, including me, you are in for a world o hurt.
Also be prepared for some 'why the hell did they make it look like that' graphics, seriously my nephew could draw better with his crayolas :D

hmm I have read how for some people it's unplayable ..which is worrying cuz your pc is similiar to mine (mine has added sexiness)

also there's conflicting opinions about the graphics ..some say it's an oblivion killer while others say some aspects are fugly ..like characters (which admittedly look old school in screens)

I'm wondering if aspyr fixed anything ..they were supposed to change a few things here and there but it remains to be seen whether they'll ship a game that's still in an unplayable state

Crom have you played more since your last frustrating attempts to get the game to run properly?

I've spent several entire evenings tweaking INI's, installing / uninstalling patches, messing with settings to no avail. The furthest I got into the game was around the 5 hour mark back on patch 1 but it just became too unplayable the further in I went. Performance hits are the exact opposite to Oblivion - the wilderness is damn slow, esp. in forests - but the towns are just painfully, impossibly BAAAADly unplayable, sometimes 1 fps, no exageration. At one spot I just stood still with fraps running and looked at my feet from first person mode and it was 1fps. Looking up, it was around 3 fps, looking a couple of degrees to the right I got maybe 15fps, look back again and it's back to 1.

As the scenery in front of me was just a hut wall there is nothing I could pinpoint as the cause for all the work my poor pc was having to do, except that there are no cells like in oblivion - each and every building, cave, settlement is open to the rest of the world, no doors, no loading screens. I'm guessing the system is trying to render everything in the area, including stuff you can't see, which is why it's so slow. Only explanation I can think of.

It's now in one of my games drawers for an indefinite time. To be honest I don't think i'll ever play it again, even if it is fixed - it just got samey after a while, a kind of frantic click-a-like 3D Diablo2, and that doesn't include the many, many bugs.
Trust me, if the demo doesn't run like honey on your pc, spend your hard earned on something else...

Ok i saw a few pictures of the game in a PC Gamer magazine the other day and it looks cool but i have no idea what kind of game it is or what its about or ANYTHING at all. Im to lazy to look it up in the book so il just wait here untill someone explains to me.

It's a dark and gritty hack 'n' slash RPG.

I have the game. It doesnt run poorly at all for me until I put it on UBER MAX settings. I get probably 25 frames on uber max, and on very high i get like 35 in dense areas. Thats with a Athlon 64 3200+, 7800gt 256, 2 gigs of ram.

You're one of the lucky ones, as this game seems to be a 50-50 lottery

I have nothing to play this holiday season ;(

/me runs away crying

42% and counting :)

naw ..I rarely take steps backwards ...I cant play old games cuz they're just so hard to look at ...I have HL2 episode 1 that I havent finished ...I was bored ..I may just pick up NWN2 for the hell of it

well I've never played a total war game ..and I'm not that interested in dark messiah .... the performance of the demo on my rig sucked

With medieval 2 you can wage war against catholics. You know you want to Stern!

Just played it..and well :|

Every single stupid mindless creature in the game has the uncanny ability to parry your strikes. I don't mind a challenge, but when I have to swing my sword 100 times just to strike a damn wild boar once, I-... no. Just no.

Had alot of fun for the few minutes before it crashed, also ran sluggishly :\ but I hope to fix it and get back into the fray

Man.......just....this was really bad. Even if it had ran well, the models were horrible, the cinematic was laughable, voice-overs sucked.....i think the only thing i honestly enjoyed was the music. As far as I'm concerned there is nooooo way I will ever purchase this game.....I would much rather replay Oblivion.

You just suck at combat. You need to know how to time your attacks. And I am willing to bet that you are too low a level to actually be able to kill one. They are a fairly hard creature to kill since they attack fast.

And Im glad you shallow "graphics = everything" people dont like it because its people like you guys that ruin game series. Everything is cut out to make way for better graphics and then the actual game sucks. Stay away from my Gothic bitches!

No one is complaining about bad graphics.
They are complaining that the game is so ****ing buggy that they cannot run it on any level for any decent performance.

shizam?

I wanna play but i get this popping noise on my speakers when im in game it sucks , and when i change graphics settings and restart game it gives me errors . What a shame.

never played gothic before, but I tried this demo to see what it was like. I'm trying not to compare this to Oblivion but I just can't help it. Combat was just too boring. That alone killed the game for me. I was trying to ignore all the glitches and frequent pauses. The only thing that really appealed to me was the environment. It wasn't that bad. In Oblivion everything seemed the same after a while. Forrest, cave, more forrest, etc. Maybe Neverwinter Nights 2 would be a better rpg for me.

Actually the combat in gothic 3 is far far more in depth than that in oblivion. You can learn new moves and combos by training from people who can teach you swordsmanship and as you advance you can get longer combos and attack faster.

Don't quote me for your preaching, if you bothered to read any of my posts about this travesty of a game you would know that although I have said that some of the graphics are shockingly bad, my primary dislike has been with the performance (or lack thereof) and the amount of bugs.

The whole graphics < gameplay argument is ridiculous. A pc game needs both, in equal measure. Believable graphics create atmosphere and immersion, especially in a rpg. Challenging gameplay makes the goal worth achieving. Without either of these the other is as useless as nipples on men. If you just want graphics, watch a movie. If you just want gameplay, play chess.

As for combat... mad clicking on the left mouse button until it's dead isn't In-depth. Yes, there are combination moves you can do, if you actually needed to. But you don't. You don't need to parry. You don't need to learn complex special moves. You just need to hack like crazy, because that's all the AI does back at you. The 'next-gen combat' is just a colourful yet pointless veneer over a basic clickfest. At least in Oblivion you had to parry.

If you want this turkey, it's all yours - don't forget the stuffing :D

Agreed. Me saying that the graphics were bad, doesn't make me a graphics whore, it was a statement of fact.....i could have forgiven the bad graphics if the game was fun....the game was not fun. It was buggy, had boring mediocre gameplay, AND the graphics were bad. As a gamer I personally expect two things from a game, that it run decently well, and that it is fun to play, this game had neither, therefore as far as i'm concerned the game sucked. I CURSE THEE TO AN ETERNITY OF BARGAIN-BIN LANGUISHMENT!!!!!!

I hear there's like...5 females in the game? Did they all die out in a plague or something? And the story and characters isn't as interesting as everyone says.

How would you know? You havent even played the game. The story is damned good, and its better when you know the story from the last two games. And the whole story is about how the orc came and kicked the shit out of the humans. If you couldnt fight or work then you got killed, so not many women would survive.

And to CR0M... I honestly think that you arnt fighting the right way. Thats probably why you hate the gameplay also. Its not a game where you can just pick up the game and be amazing at the combat. You need to know when to dodge, block, and attack. You need to know what spell to cast depending on what it does and if you have enough time to prepare for their attack afterwards. By you saying that you dont even need to do that when you DO NEED TO, its obvious that you arnt fighting correctly.

And I believe you are wrong about the graphics thing. Ever played Deus Ex? Ever played Mount and Blade? Ever play any ****ing flash game on the internet? Text based games? You dont need graphics at all for it to be a fun game. If you want to argue immersion you will have a hard time because its different for everyone. I can get immersed in N64 games much more so than many of today's games (F.E.A.R, Oblivion, Call of Duty etc). A lot of people never get immersed no matter what because they instinctively know they are playing a game no matter how into it they get. Immersion is a BS argument.

I think the ONLY arguement you guys have against this is Performance... which is more based on your PCs than anything. Granted they should have tried harder to tweak it for more hardware... but thats going to come with patches and updates.

I don't NEED to argue the fact that I personally think it's a shite game.

I'd like to see them polish this a bit more before U.S. release, but it wont happen. It's like they had a collection of great ideas but absolutely no adhesive to put them together in any kind of logical manner.
