I can't connect to any MP servers. It fails after 4 tries, what's wrong?

only the golies have the gravity gun and all the players can just use there hands and try to throw the ball in the goal or something
 
i got wireless so i cant make servers :(, when is the real hl2MP comin out? :O
 
um

Alot of you guys trying to do the mp thing are posting router ips that no one from the internet can connect to/see.
go to whatismyip.com and see what your ip should be
anything along the lines of 198.68.1.100 or 198.23.1.100 ect are router ips
 
I can't get it to work and I tried just about everything in this thread. Here is where I'm at, what am I missing?

net_start
sv_lan 0
deathmatch 1
coop 1
maxplayers 3
map d1_town_01 (or whatever it is....)
(once map loaded and in)
restart

Friend trying to connect just get failure after 4 retries. wtf?
 
You don't need the mod to play, i wouldn't trust it to help make MP any better.
 
Guys, go to ipchicken.com to figure out your ip, you are putting in the wrong ip, or go to whatismyip.com
 
To make a shortcut, you need to rightclick on HL2 in the games menu of steam. Create Shortcut... It'll ask if you want to create one on the desktop. Say yes. Then paste the commands in the readme. "-applaunch220" is already there...
 
I just made one. 192.168.0.10:27015, 207.173.177.12:27011, 69.28.151.178:27011, or 127.0.0.1:27005. I don't know which is the external IP sorry guys. :(

EDIT: hostname: Half-Life 2
build : 2187
udp/ip : 192.168.0.10:27015
map : hl2mpmultitest at: 53 x, 941 y, -383 z
players : 1 (10 max)

That's what it says for the Status of the server. It also said this when I made the server(in console):

Connected to 127.0.0.1:27015
Adding master server 207.173.177.12:27011
Adding master server 69.28.151.178:27011

So... I don't know.
 
you guys that are giving out 198.162 adresses - those are your local ip addresses behind your router... you need to give out your actual ip assigned by your isp... cable and dsl are usually 10.6 something or 24.10 something.. go to your router status to find out your acutal ip. you will also probably need to make sure you have port 27015 or whatever HL2 is, routed to the pc you have serving.
