It's an ad for their own magazine, not an add for HL2.

So your telling me because I work in a computer store, I can put a massive poster out the front saying "HL2 IS DONE!!!" and get customers coming into the store, and Valve/VU would not be pissed at all? I'm sure they would be

I'm not saying that at all. But, I am saying that if you did put that up... it wouldn't be because Valve is paying you to.

Someone said a few pages back that the magazine was correct about doom3 going gold before it was "officially" released. Is there any scan or link to go with that?

I'm just trying to discern the magazines credibility.
Which is really the only thing in question, the pictures are obviously real.

No, it's not a mistake, as that little circle states that the next issue of PC PowerPlay will be on sale on Sept 22. Which it will.

People have merely been misinterpreting the "Sept 22" as the release date of HL2, that's all. Nobody in that magazine ever said HL2 would be released on the 22nd.

"No Half Life 2 review next issue
Despite what it says on the "Next Month" page in #104, we will not be reviewing Half Life 2 in #105.

At the time of going to print a review did look likely to happen, but subsequent events have rendered it impossible. The following issue - #106 - should carry the eagerly anticipated PCPP review.

However we do have an unexpected treat for you in #105. I can't reveal any more, save to say it's BIG news."
