I

found

the

demo

to

be

pretty

okay.

None

of

the

good

features

are

in

the

demo.

Granted,

MP

doesn't

really

use

many

of

those

features

now

other

than

having

to

gather

resources

yourself,

but

you

will

be

totally

addicted

to

singleplayer

when

you

get

it.

Part of the reason I am considering buying this is because of my little brother. He's really into constructing and building things, and he's always curious about my video games. Is Minecraft something you could reasonably play with a mature 9 year old, or would they be bored to shit?

I wish I knew where I was in relation to the spawn. I just took a boat across a lake and found a nice cove for my underwater shenanigans. A nice cave with exposed iron was nice too.

If all else fails, or you just want to be double sure, make a fire/torch array on a nerdpole to the sky and wait for the next render. I'd recommend making it out of sand or gravel for ease of cleanup.

Also, ZT, if he enjoys building that much, he should have a blast.

Also, people were needing axes and shovels and crap earlier, so I made a chest full of iron axes, picks, and shovels and stuck it at spawn with the rest of the free junk. If it starts getting empty, refill it or let me know. I still have a small surplus of iron, so making more isn't an issue at this point. Additionally, for those unaware, there is still the durability bug on SMP. If you drop a tool and pick it back up, the durability resets and it's as good as new.

The problem I had convincing other people was that they would look at it for 30 seconds and go "this game looks stupid and boring".

In order to draw them in, they gotta watch you play for a bit, or play for a good half hour themselves.

Nah, it's pretty self explanatory. Hold the button down to destroy blocks, don't just click it. Lava hurts, and if you hear a hisssss sound, you're already dead. You'll likely need a recipe chart, so here is that.

And you don't need a bunch of youtube videos if you went that route.

While my stupid paypal echeck was clearing, I spent a week watching Let's Play Minecraft videos... which got me absolutely hooked on the idea of minecraft survival. I wasn't interested in the game before I watched those videos... creative had turned me off.

takes about a day to understand, if that. join the server, dig some tunnels, press t to chat to other players, then ask them questions about whatever. that's how i got the jist of things, and i'm still learning stuff on the fly

today i found out you can make ladders. mindblowing
